The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday commended Nigerian soldiers for the uncommon bravery they displayed at dislodging Boko Haram from Sambisa Forest in north-east Nigeria.

“We salute the men and women of our beloved armed forces. Their courage, determination and sacrifice made this achievement possible,” the PDP said in a statement signed by its interim spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye.

The forest, hitherto known as the major hideout of the insurgents, fell to Nigerian troops last week.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who announced the development on December 24, described it as “the final crushing” of Boko Haram.

The clearing of Sambisa Forest is one of the biggest achievements recorded by the Nigerian government against the terrorists in the battle that has dragged for seven years.

It was achieved less than a month after the military launched ‘Operation Rescue Finale’ to clear Boko Haram remnants from the forest and free thousands of civilians believed to have been trapped there.

The PDP in an unusual gesture this afternoon joined other Nigerians to laud Mr. Buhari for the dogged manner in which he handled the insurgency, but was also quick to add that his government parlayed the success of his predecessor in achieving the latest success.

“We congratulate Nigerians for this important milestone in the long and bitter struggle against the forces of evil that have wreaked so much suffering and hardship on our people in the last few years.

“We also congratulate the president for his dogged pursuit of the war against insurgency. We are happy that he has built on the efforts of his predecessors.

“Whatever we are witnessing now is as a result of all the efforts and sacrifices of the past and present. Nigerians and the international community will recall that the war effort received a major boost in the weeks leading up to the 2015 general elections.

“The insurgents were virtually annihilated – a feat that made it possible for elections to hold peacefully in almost all the local government areas of all the states in the northeast last year.

“We are therefore very much delighted with the continuation of this great effort by the president,” the PDP said.

The party urged Mr. Buhari to look into other parts of the country where violent activities have recently surged.

“Beyond Sambisa all the other forests which criminals used as hideouts and bases must equally be cleared by the military.

“Forests such as Birnin Gwari, Zamfara, Southern Kaduna, Enugu and Benue have become killing fields. They must all be cleared of criminal elements.”

    Premium Times Editor,

PDP got the actual facts right….

“The insurgents were virtually annihilated – a feat that made it
    possible for elections to hold

peacefully in almost all the local
government areas of all the states in the northeast last year.

    ………..Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

I am happy that the truth we said is resonating. We the contributors here said President Buhari lied
that 14 local governments in Nigeria were under the control of Boko Haram as at 29th May 2015 when
he took his oath of office. That was a lie from the pit of hell. President Buhari forgot to think it out that
elections would have been inconclusive and there would have been no results for 14 local governments.
Please use your esteemed medium to clear away all the spirit of lies President Buhari brought into office.

Indeed we have no any country than Nigeria therefore it’s our responsibility to contribute to it’s progress and development regardless of party affiliation.
We hail your guts by saying truth coupled with praised of our gallant soldiers.
      Nigeria we hail thee!
      WAILERS should comment please

You are wrong, sir. President Buhari is right. What President meant is that the 2015
election that got him elected was conducted with bullets and grenades by Boko Haram
militias. Buhari also meant that Boko Haram armed militias were the actual returning officers
were the returning officers in at least 14 local governments, in addition to some other wards.
What part of President Buhari’s public confession is too hard for you to understand?

Listen to what the shameless PDP spokesman said “Nigerians and the international community will recall that the war effort received a major boost IN THE WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS”. You and I know that this is partly true. After the election was postponed for six weeks, in those six weeks we saw more action on boko haram than we saw in the 6 years before that. It leads you to ask the simple question, why did they suddenly become serious about the war? Were they doing it because they knew they were going to lose and needed the votes? What happened to all the money budgeted to the military in the 6 years before then since it was those last 6 weeks most of the equipment they bought arrived? All Nigerian politicians and political parties are dishonest but Trust PDP at your own peril. They are the most evil politicians in Nigeria despite what we may think now.

This forum should now be filled with praise and thanksgiving for the gallantry of our Armed Forces and the leadership of our President. Na wao Nigerians, can’t we find just one thing to celebrate and be grateful for?

We cannot be full of praise. We don’t know the real truth. President Buhari told too many lies before.
At a time he said he has technically defeated Boko Haram only for Boko Haram to start killing soldiers.

These PDP criminals are not even ashamed. They want to take part credit for all the good things this government has achieved but don’t want to take any responsibility for the bad- how smart of them. Lets even assume their statement is to be believed and boko haram was ”virtually annihilated” in the weeks leading up to the election then that should raise serious questions from every sensible Nigerian. For almost 6 years the government was in power Boko Haram got progressively worse, then suddenly in the last 6 weeks the election was postponed for we saw the type of action we had never seen before. It simply means that they DECIDED when they wanted to be serious about the war. Now they have to tell us what they did with all the billions of Naira allocated to the military in all those years? These people are just accusing themselves of complicity

Good! this is supposed to be how to play clean politics. Condemn when due and praise when due. Very good opposition. I commend pdp.

  • Julius

SMDH !! I’m surprised they didn’t say it was Jonathan that captured the forest all by himself after he left office. What a bunch of jokers.

  • Say the truth

Something unusual in Nigeria politics. That is the spirit. When they get it right give them credit when they miss it tell them. This is one thing APC was not known for. Everything is politics to Liar Muhammed and he indulged in bringing down the government of the day. PDP must be commended for the maturity and patriotic zeal unlike the militant and ever antagonistic APC. Even the state chapters are worse than the national body. One Jide Awe of Ekiti APC went amock the other day because a clergy encouraged the opposition governor of the state. He did not see anything right in the governor protecting the life and property of his people against herdsmen invasion.
