Missing Nigerian journalist found dead

Yinka Adeparusi, a Nigerian photo-journalist earlier declared missing, has died, his employers said on Tuesday.

Online publication, Naij.com, announced in a statement published on its website that Mr. Adeparusi was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday.

“NAIJ.com confirmed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja and died on the spot,” the statement said.

Mr. Adeparusi, an award-winning photojournalist, left his residence in Abuja suburb of Kugbo on Sunday afternoon with a message that ‘I’ll be back’, his employers said.

But when he didn’t return, his neighbours —and later his colleagues— became worried, especially when they couldn’t reach him on the phone.

“This was quite unusual because Yinka was a soft-spoken, very professional and clear-headed individual; not the kind of person to wander off,” Naij.com said.

A brief citation that accompanied the statement described Mr. Adeparusi as an award-winning photojournalist who graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication.

Among other awards, Yinka received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards in 2013 and was the winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting in 2011.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to one of my colleagues in Ecobank just two weeks ago in this same Abuja. He and his wife came back from church on a Sunday and he told his wife he wanted to see a friend before lunch would be ready. He was declared missing d following day after d wife and family had come to look for him in d office dat Monday to no avail. We were shocked to receive his obituary in d office thru email on Wed that he allegedly died on Tuesday in an auto accident. The days of the week and event pattern are 100% similar. Abuja residents, beware! This is grand conspiracy of evil men at work. I have no doubts at all. At least a policeman would be part of this dastardly acts and sinister deeds! You ask me why? Three of my colleagues were robbed in commercial buses at different points in Lagos this week, and at each of those points and in d events, an armed Police officer was the one sitting on the passenger’s seat beside the driver in the front. He sat there pretending as if he didn’t know about the robbery till the guy is dispossed of everything and he’s thrown out and the bus zooms away. In one of the incidents, the robbers collected the guy’s debit cards and PIN , held him hostage in d vehicle while one of them goes to the nearest ATM to fleec the acct of max daily cash limit. The Police man just coded himself without saying a word while the operation lasted. Police is the greatest evil in this country. I wish all of them die suddenly so that Nigeria can have opportunity to recruit fresh hands. They are too devilish, wicked, heartless, money-conscious, Godless, inhuman, criminal-minded, self-centred and inefficient. I hate all of them. I’ve never met a policeman that will never ask for money no matter the level of misfortune that befall you. Sorry, for the digression, brethren. Just pouring out my frustrations. This country is just too full of evil men and corruption has taken over every nook and cranny. Imagine abrupt termination of the live of this young journalist by devilish men! Naij guys should get who witnessed the auto accident of this guy before reporting he truly died so.
