Jonathan’s accounts not frozen – Presidency

The Presidency has refuted an allegation by demonstrators in Bayelsa on Thursday that allowances due to former President Goodluck Jonathan had been stopped and his bank accounts frozen.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, said in a statement on Friday that the allegation was “patently untrue”.

He said it was on record that all past presidents were paid their various allowances up to the second quarter of 2016.

“We have confirmed with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) that the former president and the other past leaders were paid their allowances up to the second quarter.

“The past leaders have not been paid third quarter allowances but will get their dues when remittances are received by the SGF from the Ministry of Finance,” the statement said.

Mr. Shehu also described as untrue the alleged closure of former President Jonathan’s accounts, saying that the “story of account closure is false. It is not known to the investigation agencies”.

“The National Security Adviser is not aware of this bank account closure; the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) is unaware of it, the EFCC is unaware and the IG of Police is not in the know,” the statement said.

“With all of these agencies not being involved, how then could a thing like that happen? In a dream perhaps!’’

According to him, there is a clear motive for the demonstration that is different from that which was being canvassed.

He said the demonstration was a premeditated attempt to “blame President Buhari for something he knows nothing about”.

Mr. Shehu said the claims were false and poorly sourced to present a picture of vendetta, and they should be disregarded by well-meaning members of the public.

According to him, President Buhari remains committed to the ideals of justice and fairness to all, irrespective of creed, religion and political leanings.

He maintained that the Buhari-led administration would not engage in vendetta.

“Not yet”, am sure they mean to say.

We need a public statement from the former president Goodluck Jonathan to confirm or denounce the stoppage of his allowances and frozen of his accounts. This will be necessary to confirm or denial the alleged vendetta against Dr. Jonathan by the present government of Buhari. .

Now if you look at the kind of votes he Joanthan scored and compared them with those of 2011, you would discover that where for instance, Abia state where I come from, in 2011 president Jonathan then scored 1.3million votes and he Buhari didn’t get anything. But this time around the PDP candidate, President Goodlkuck Jonathan scored three hundred and something thousand votes not up to one million. In Enugu where he got almost a million votes, this time he scored about 550,000 votes. The same thing Imo, Anambra and if you calculate the difference in votes between 2011 and 2015, you would discover that about four million votes were knocked off from what Jonathan scored in 2011. What he scored in 2015, four million was knocked off of what he scored in 2011 and if you look at the number of votes that were the difference between him and the winner, President Buhari now it is almost 2.5million. This was how the Ibos cheated the South south out of their victory

  • The fact remains that anything or any statement that comes out of this presidency can not be believed. This presidency is the most vindictive and divisive and that would go any length to unleash pain and suffering on its real and perceived political enemies.
