Former First Lady, Turai Yar’adua’s aide arrested for alleged N91 million fraud

The Police Command in Katsina on Tuesday said that it had arrested a 60-year-old domestic worker serving former first lady, Turai Yar’adua, over missing goods worth N91 million.

The police Commissioner in the state, Usman Abdullahi, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday in Katsina.

“The police has arrested Alhaji Yusuf Sarkin-gida after a formal complaint by Hajiya Turai Yar’adua to the Police two weeks ago.

“The suspect is the custodian of all the keys and property of Hajiya Turai Yar’adua for the past forty years.

“There are 37 boxes in the custody of the suspect, but only 27 boxes are in the store.

“The several items in the 27 boxes are completely missing and the suspect has failed to give full explanation on the goods and items in the boxes,” he said.

The Commissioner said the suspect had been serving the Late Umar Yar’adua family for the past 40 years even before her husband became the governor and later the president of Nigeria.

Mr. Abdullahi said the suspect was in police custody, where he was assisting them to conduct intensive investigation on the missing items.

When contacted, the spokesperson of Sarkin-gida’s family, Mohammed Yusuf, said their father was innocent of the charge leveled against him.

He said the arrest and detention of their father before the Eld-el-Kabir celebration had thrown the family into confusion.

He appealed to human rights organisations to come to the rescue of their father. (NAN)

Corrupt first lady, where did you get this kind of money? Hajiya Turai must be one of the richest dames in the Republic. Her concubines are fortunate.

    • Fadama

Hypocrisy of the highest form. Millions of dollars found in Patience’s bank account and that was hard earned money according to you and her supporters. You all also included she is a former first lady and has all the goodwill to earn that much. Now, N91 million worth of assets supposedly stolen from Turai (a former first lady as well) and you are here asking where she got that amount of money from. I am not defending Turai but learn to be criticise objectively and consistency at all times.

Thief stole from the thief. Proper police would have asked Alhaja thief how did she acquire the stolen wealth

  • AmenWolf

The man should be released with immediate effect and Turai Yar Adua should be detained in his stead. How can a treasury looting criminal like Turai report a petty thief for shoplifting or houselifting in this case.

She was a governor’s wife for 8 years and president’s wife for only 2 years but look how rich she is. But Nigerians want to lynch the wife of deputy governor for 3 years, governor for 5 years, vice president for 2 years and president for 6 years for having a 15 million dollars account. What hypocrisy.

    • Baba

Her rich is not upto a million dollar while that of patience is 15 million! Just for medical treatment

Patience Jonathan deserves more than that—Look an oil well in the Niger delta alone can fetch her more than 500m dollars—How much did danjuma work to make 500m dollars——-from his oil wells in the Niger delta—? What about Lady Alakija–a Yoruba woman who also owns an oil well—-She flies about in her own private jet—why because of the oil well that IBB gifted her———————-Name one Ijaw woman who has a boat of her own–not to talk of a jet——-in the entire south south—Aisha Buhari donated over 156m to IDPs in Borno state before the CIA imposed Bingo Buhari on us—————–where did the money come from maybe from——–Halliburton loot who knows—-freedom is our goal–not the rule of the Fulanis and Yorubas–

Shagari’s regime (1979-1983), incurred Buhari’s wrath when it decided to investigate the US$2.8 billion that disappeared from the Midland Bank, London account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, (NNPC), during General Obasanjo’s era as military head of state that preceded Shagari’s. Dr. Olusola Saraki, Turaki of Ilorin, was the majority party leader of the Senate at the time and he headed the Senate Committee set up to trace the stolen money after some three years of clamour for such an investigation by members of the civil society. The money was traced to the Midland Bank London branch fixed account of Buhari, Obasanjo’s appointee as military head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. On the 31st December, 1983, Buhari struck under the cover of the political commotion that trailed the presidential election results. Buhari generally had no agenda for leadership but vendetta against those he called critics and rabble-rousers. Buhari did not see any moral wrong in his conversion of our oil money into his personal use. Rather he railed at the press and what he described as the self-righteous sections of the country for making a big deal out of the issue. He locked up without trial, politicians including all the Yoruba governors under Awo and Late Fela among others–Sadly the same Yorubas are aiding Bingo Buhari to destroy the economy again-for the second time running–what a shame-

Boy you do get around, peddling conspiracy theories, employing numerous pseudo names…BURNING SPEAR, VAGABONDS IN POWER, etc.

I told you once, between 1967 and 1970 when you betrayed your own, abandoned your REGION, believing you had found new partners and answers to all your problems, only to discover the bitter truth, as they say, better the devil you know than the one you don’t know.

Imagine what could have been. That’s why each time you peddle one of your silly conspiracy theories I get personally offended.

I was once told a story where during a gathering several years after the dreaded civil war, in the middle of the day, in which regional issues were discussed and debated, leading Ojukwu to quip, “Good morning Ken.”

To which Ken Sarowiwa who happened to be present replied, “Ikemba, why are you saying good morning to me in the middle of the afternoon?”

And Ojukwu replied, “You are just waking up Ken so this is your morning.”

Good Morning, burning spear, or vagabonds in power, or whoever you are.

There is no need to be so dramatic about this news. This is much ado about nothing. What I always do when the various news about political wealth is released is to convert the money from naira to dollars and ruminate whether that politician or his spouse could have reasonably acquired that wealth in a lifetime. So, using a rate of N400 to $1, we get $227,500 for N91 million. In my view, ex-president Yar -Adua could have earned that amount in a lifetime of teaching, two terms of governorship and 2 years of presidency before he passed. Also, I assume that she earns a pension as a former presidential spouse. In the US, she would earn half of her husband’s social security upon her husband’s death. But, I don’t what the practice is in Nigeria. That’s why I always call for transparency because it allays rumors. But overall, I’m not alarmed by this amount. It does not compare to Mrs Jonathan’s when you realize that her millions of dollars of wealth translates into trillions of naira.

why is Nigeria prosecuting an old woman when the big thieves are allowed to continue as big men & women after their MONUMENTAL LOOTING/BETRAYAL of our Fatherland. The Irony of the personwho reported this woman is not lost on discerning minds. She was the pioneer, patience jonathan is just a follower.

Is Buhari from a wealthy home too, abi how he get all the wealth wen he nor gree declare, from 150 cows?
selective reasoning, the shame of a dying country.

      • Rommel

Buhari is not a wealthy,God has blessed him with decency and I am proud of this in him,can I say same about the Jonathan family?

  • Okokondem

Typical Nigerian reasoning, everyone has someone to defend. Shouldn’t the debate be about getting both Turai Yar Adua and Patience Jonathan to explain how they earned #90 million and $15 million respectively.

In whose account has Aisha Buhari hidden all the process of Alhaji Bingo’s frequent foreign trips collected at CBN rate and converted at Mallam shop at the street corner that is said to be close to N7.0 billion already – the reason why AB travelled sometimes to two countries in a month, even if it was to go watch a premiering film?
What is not good for the Geese is not good for the Gander.
The EFCC says it would send Patience to Jail if she is found guilty and i see her guilty already qith the foolani hegemonist Presidency, EFCC and Judiciary.
Turai has foolani imunity, so the EFCC would question the one used to hide some of her money, collect as much as they can recover and return same to her, while Patience own will be forfeited.
Why would the NDA and other militant groups not ask to end Nigeria? I also concur to ending Nigeria without reservation, because it is not worth the current hardship
