Zamfara blasphemy killings: Most victims were Muslims — Gov. Yari

Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari
Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state on Wednesday vowed that all those implicated in the killing of eight persons in Talata Mafara local government area would be exposed and prosecuted.

Mr. Yari, who condemned the unrest, dismissed social media reports that Christians were killed, saying that seven out of the eight persons that lost their lives during the incident were Muslims.

The governor spoke in Abuja while fielding questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said though no arrest had been made, security officials had intensified investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending all those involved in the religious unrest.

“As at the time I left Zamfara, no arrest yet, immediately the incident happened, the school authority shut down the school,” he said.

“The police and the DSS are carrying out their investigations and soon there will be arrests.

“The government will not take this lightly; people should not take laws into their hands.

“If you say the punishment for who abuses the Prophet should be killed and you now killed innocent people.

“By the way, there is a government in place, there are laws and there are courts where Islamic laws are practised in Zamfara.

“So, why should someone take laws into his hands?

“So, definitely all the culprits will be brought to book.’’

Mr governor, what matters is that it was human beings that were murdered; their religious persuasion should not be your primary concern, even though we don’t know whether you are saying the truth. It has become normal for you guys to sit down there and say that perpetrators “would be exposed and prosecuted”. We are used to such slogan. Go beyond politricks and do what you said and stop deceiving yourself.

      Absolutely correct!

    • blueeyedkitten

there is nothing wrong with what he said. what is wrong in clarifying the issues? it was widely spread by the biased media, that the victims were all christians…which is not true. hes telling you the fact of the matter, and you’re saying he’s deceiving himself.

      • Watch man

Is that all your eyes saw in my post, assuming you have eyes that see well? How many murderers have been prosecuted since your “islamic janjaweed” resumed unbridled murder of their fellow humans? Tell me! Is your governor supposed to be crediting more death to one party? Is your governor not governing both christians, mouslims, animists and the rest? And since when did your governor become the security agencies who have not come up with result of of investigation? Read well before you start hitting the keyboard.

        • blueeyedkitten

will you say thesame to the media who rushed to press reporting the killings of christians? why didnt they wait for the result of investigation?
and what do you even mean by my islamic janjaweed resuming unbridled murder of their fellow humans? what sort of rubbish asumptions are you bringing up here? you’re just another hate monger.

          • Watch man

That is why it should not be your governor that should be doing the work of the security agencies. You have chosen to believe him subjectively without proper investigation. Blueeyedkitten, when next you are responding to people’s post do so without bitterness and hatred except you want people to believe that you are indeed a kitten.

          • blueeyedkitten

you’re the hate monger here. you’re painting an entire community with one brush… with your islamic janjaweed nonsense.

          • Watch man

It is clear that you are a janjaweed saiyr full of hatred, and lack very little modicum of tolerant culture. If my posts infuriate you so much, you can go headlong in the field of Aceldama.

          • blueeyedkitten

oh yeah…since you’ve got nothing reasonable to say, you can resort to jargons.

By the way good people, the Zamfara state gov needs to realize that the issue is not whether most of the victims were Muslims or Christians but that political actors and the judiciary have a dire responsibility to take far-reaching action against a culture of religious intolerance that allows such barbarism to persist in our body polity. Leaders must go way beyond condemning such intolerance and criminality to enacting and enforcing laws against it wherever it shows an appearance. To say mainly Muslims were killed is evidence of the appallingly low value we as a nation place on human life – all life.

    • blueeyedkitten

was that all you got from the report? couldnt see the gov was responding to media reports that only christians were killed? hes only telling you – not only christians, but muslims were the majority victims, thus stop painting muslims with one brush. this is also telling those who like attributing this type of evil crimes to islam and collectively blaming muslims for the actions of some misguided few.

On 1st August Gov Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara while addresing the media on the outcome of his foiled impeachment proceedings by the state Assembly diversionarilly stated that any one that committ acts of blasphemy against Islam in the state is going to be delt with decisively. UPDATE : Forwarded as received.
Good morning my beloved brethren, I’ve been in touch with the happenings in Talata Mafara and I want to testify that God will always leave a sign behind (depending on the context) to encourage His people.
It was a Muslim student who went to a NIFES brother to ask questions about Christianity that turned the discourse into what happened. That was Sunday night. He was left for dead but a veteran NIFES associate rescued him while another Muslim helped them to the hospital with his car. By Monday, a mob went for the lives of these two lecturers and the hospitalized brother. Thank God that before Monday morning the Christian students had mobilized and left danger zones. In frustration the mob went for everywhere Christians meet on campus. They also went to the residence of the Muslim lecturer who helped but he also had relocated his family. So, they set his house ablaze.
Now, here’s the twist. Some of the Muslim’s entered the lecturer’s house to loot without the knowledge of others. So, they got burnt in the building. The burnt bodies are those of those looters.
As at this morning there’s no indication of any death among the Christians students. The young man with machete cuts is that of the NIFES student. But, he has been relocated to another hospital because they are still searching for him and the two lecturers. Let’s continue our prayers for their safety. From Ebere Samuel

Thank you for the update. When God turned the captivity of Zion, it was like a dream to them. God Almighty will continue to avenge our enemies in Jesus name. 2Chronicle 20

Thanks for the details. What are those students learning in that place? They better quickly return to their homes or civilisation .

  • JasV

I urge those who did it to proudly come out except if they are not proud of the god they are killing for. The god should be able to protect them from any punishment arising from their barbaric actions.

saying that seven out of the eight persons that lost their lives during the incident were Muslims.

So what? One murder by the beast is one murder too many.

  • Otile

Everybody knows that the target of the Muslim barbarians was that one Christian man, but as the devil would have it 7 Muslims perished in the arson. There is no consolation in one Christian and 7 Muslims perishing in this kind of Islamic anarchy, they are all humans.

“On April 22, 1990, when Major Gideon Orkar (may God bless his perfect soul) attempted to cleanse Nigeria and put it on the right path, it was the agents of the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy through its Caliphate section of the “Nigerian Army” that aborted that effort. Several events before this coup, dating back to 1960 and events since then have shown that Nigeria has never been one, it could never be one and it would never be one.”

    RemiOyeyemi, SR, 2011

The best and urgent kind of restructuring of Nigeria is to cut the cancerous geopolitical zones out. The cancer is metastasizing and Nigerian have an easy choice. Keep them and die or cut them off and live. That was Major Gideon Okar’s simple message.

Four months after herdsmen invaded Nimbo village in Enugu State, killing and maiming the villagers, another village in the same state was, yesterday, attacked by, at least, 50 herdsmen leaving death and tears in their wake. The invaded village was Ndiagu,Attakwu, Akegbe-Ugwu in Nkanu-West Local Government Area of the state. Some of the victims include 26-year-old Seminarian, Lazarus Nwafor, on a year apostolic work, who was slaughtered and a six month pregnant woman whose stomach was ripped open.
    Vanguard, 26.8.2016

The location is very close to the capital city. These evil people inspired by a false “prophet” are not only after Christians in their area but also are persistently invading a Christian heartland.

Why are they still invading Enugu? the answer is simple. Because Buhari and Danbazau ordered them to do so and assured them that nothing will happen to them

So far, Ekiti is the only state that has taken concrete measures, albeit half hearted. Other states and geopolitical zones need to follow suit with more stringent measures. A localized response will not be effective. All the southern and Middle Belt states must work together to deal with this existential evil. Repeat: MUST WORK TOGETHER
