Dasukigate: Ex-VP Sambo’s aide admits receiving N25 million for election website

Abba Dabo

A former special adviser on political matters to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, Abba Dabo, on Thursday told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja that he was paid N25 million by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, to create a website.

The money was part of the N400 million arms purchase funds allegedly given to Mr. Metuh and his company, Destra Investment Limited by the former NSA, Sambo Dasuki.

Mr. Dabo, while being led in evidence by the counsel to Economic Financial Crimes Commission, Sylvanus Tahir, told the court that he was paid the money through the second defendant’s company account, Destra Investment Limited.

Mr. Dabo, also a former spokesperson for ex-President Shehu Shagari, was a former editor of Sunday New Nigeria and Gaskiya Ta Fi Kwabo and one time deputy national chairman of the PDP (North).

According to him, the said money was for media and publicity campaign for the PDP presidential election.

Explaining how the money was expended, Mr. Dabo told the court that he created a media support system and a website called “WhatsApp Nigeria” to run media advocacy campaign for the party.

“I raised a team of facilitators and young internet experts were also employed to manage the website,” Mr. Dabo stated.

The witness further told the court that he was shocked to hear in the media that the money given to him by Mr. Metuh was part of the funds set aside to procure arms for fighting insurgency.

“Therefore, I decided to return the money to the EFCC,” Mr. Dabo said.

Justice Abang, at the instance of counsel to the second defendant, Onyechi Ikpeazu, adjourned to February 9 for further hearing.

    MY CHILDREN,

This case is in court. So, you cannot give decision. Only the Honourable High Court can decide it.
But you can comment as a human being. The first thing is to look at this matter very well and think.
You’ll see the thief-thief here is not even up to 50% of the 85 million Naira Fashola used for website.

So, you must now cool down. What is the punishment given to Raji Babatunde Fashola, you will ask.
Then you will now divide that punishment by three to find one-third of that punishment to apply to this.
The punishment given to Raji Fashola is triple MINISTER FOR POWER, LANDS AND HOUSING; not so?
That means that ex-Vice President Sambo can now be appointed Minister, but of only one Ministry as ⅓.

May I ask why the most obvious fraud in Nigeria is being overlooked by
the EFCC? It is puzzling to me. After hiding state accounts for eight years,
and resisting accountability in court, Raji Fashola handed over. That was on
the 28th of May, 2015, when, for the first time, he disclosed that he got 2.23
TRILLION NAIRA. Nothing in Lagos state is equal to that huge amount of money,
not the flowers he plucked and planted there. For God’s sake 2.23 TRILLION
NAIRA in the hands of a a honest man who does not steal would change Lagos.

But Lagos state is still the same useless way it was, but now bloody, as
Raji Fashola signaled free stealing. Raji Fashola’s Planning Commissioner told
THE PUNCH newspaper that Lagos’ account tendered was understated. Mr.
Akhabueze, Planning Commissioner, said Lagos in fact got 400billion AVERAGELY
in each of Fashola’s 8 years. That means Raji Fashola hid away a whopping 800
billion Naira from the account he tendered in his handover note. If that is not
the most obvious fraud in Nigeria, I will like to be informed of a more obvious
        one as huge in comparison.

        • Short n’ Sharp

Arrest Raji Fashola for investigation to verify Lagos state’s cash revenue of 2.43 TRILLION NAIRA

he orally claimed to have got and spent; and on top of it, incurred another 512 billion Naira as debt

overhang on Lagos state, without the required physical evidence of that 2.43 TRILLION NAIRA

claimed expenditure to warrant an additional whopping debt of 512 billion Naira

I have watched his decisions, and utterances, and I have come to realize that this

Raji Fashola does not have the two round inhabitants of a scrotum.”

The one paid to those who did a legitimate jobs and were paid.your mumu pass other yorubas mumuooo.

And you refused asking your dumb brain a simple question. Is office of NSA PDP office that Olisah Metuh can go and collect money for his party and do political jamboree with? If you think is yes, then all the political parties suppose to be going to NSA office to collect theirs and Jonathan had cheated the other political parties for not giving them their largesse.
No person has right to use money meant for arms purchase for political game. And I repeat, no one.

and, the Commisioners and Advisers of State Governors who assisted in the looting.

The darkest point in the history of any nation is when a democratically elected govt transformed itself into an organised criminal syndicate with the sole purpose of stealing from the people. The lowest point of any nation is when its leaders entrusted with power and whose fundamental responsibility is to protect the lives and property of its citizens, defend and protect the national territorial integrity of the nation, could betray that trust to shamelessly. Jonathan was so concerned about his personal image than the corporate image ,existence and survival of Nigeria and Nigerians. The saddest point of any nation is when its office for national security Adviser, whose role is mainly advisory is transformed into a criminal syndicate whose activities are anathema to the security and laws of the nation and citizens. How can anyone justify the mind boggling amounts spent on image laundering alone for Jonathan. 2.2 billion for Dokpesi; purpose; media and publicity. Fani kayode almost 5 billion, purpose, media and publicity. Metuh ; 400 million, purpose ; media and publicity and maybe many more to come. How can any President of Nigeria be this reckless to spend such humongous amount on media and publicity when it has NTA, FRCN, VON, NOA, BON etc under its firm control. How can a PDP president with almost 2/3 of the states PDP , many with state TV and newspapers control by the state governors spent so much money in outsourcing media and publicity? How can a President with over 42 ministers and each ministry with a budget for media and publicity spent so much money on an item that add no value to the welfare of Nigerians? How can Jonathan be this insensitive, inhumane and wicked to divert funds meant for the fight against insurgency for his personal political enterprise? I am pleading with PMB to set up a special detention centre at the sambisa forest for all these criminals.

  • John Ayodele

Is anyone aware how much it costs to make a website or a social media account? These are things that are literally free or if you want to get fancy may cost like $5000. N25 million equates to over $125,000. I would say I am in disbelief as to how someone can authorize the payment of such monies for such a task and not even bat an eyelid or even inquire or have a ballpark estimate at how much such a thing would cost of course unless the money they were using was not worked for. What miserable people we have leading the country.

  • √๏и๏

I’m going to stop commenting on the distraction of the so-called Dasuki-gate, of roughly $2.1 Billion.

This administration wants us to believe that’s the only fraud that took place, BUT we know better.

The elements needed to convict the recipients of that money is completely lacking, to ascertain “intent”; most of these people have no idea what that money was slated for, and they need to know that in order to be convicted.

In Nigeria, corruption is circuitous. There’s a roundabout, indirect, winding, meandering, and serpentine route that manages to touch every branch of the government.

All former heads of state stashed away directly, or by proxy all the nations wealth. A serious assault on corruption will net the country trillions of dollars; all those former heads of state must be forced to relinquish these monies and assets, the country needs them NOW!

    • Igwe

What are you talking about? The people that don’t know the origin of the money are not being tried. They are witnesses for the prosecution.

Anyways, you have do do what you have to do. We sure will miss your insightful comments.

      • √๏и๏

It’s not the origin of the money so much, but what the money was slated for; the recipients DID NOT KNOW it was meant to purchase arms. Heck, the money wasn’t even budgeted. So, Dasuki dashes someone money to promote any part of the economy, the person takes it, they are as innocent as a nun; okay may be not that innocent, let’s say, as innocent as a tree.

Remember, National Security Adviser is concerned with the security of the country, whether militarily, or economically, he has vast powers to work clandestinely, these poor accused have no idea what the money was originally meant to be used for.

And you have to prove in court that they knew, and went ahead to divert it for other purpose. How the hell are you going to prove that?

        • Dan maikoko

Hello mister, if Dasuki were to give me money to set up a website for a political party I will question his jurisdiction. If the money is up to 25 mil I will question his sanity. However if he insists I take it I will flee the country. Bottom line is you can smell fishy funds from miles. If they smell bad to you, the natural thing to do is to increase your distance. But if the smell of fishy funds attract you then you must explain how you got a running belly.

          • √๏и๏

What you are talking about is called integrity. So, you have integrity more than the average guy, from any part of the world, including the Vatican.

But that has nothing to do with our laws. It’s not against the law to take a good deal. If Dasuki had offered me a contract, I would have taken it.

          • Dan maikoko

Wrong. That’s is not integrity it is called jail phobia. Those with jail phobia run away from trouble while those obsessed with jail run into trouble. Imagine Bode George taking money from Dasuki for whatever.

          • Hunter

You are not making sense, I say this with all due respect… Dasuki gave a contract to Dabo to create a website for a particular purpose. The only reason one should flee the country or have a jail phobia syndrome in this case is if he or she fails to employ Internet experts to create and maintain the site.. but if he actually did create the site with the said amount then I’m sure he has nothing to worry about… but since he has refunded the money. now I would say there are more skeleton in his cupboard and he should be investigated the more.

          • √๏и๏

Good thinking, except to say that the state is intimidating, and could harass citizens to a stupor.

          • I Hate Sycophant

Young man , Dasuki never gave contract to Dabo. Hope you didn’t read from the back page? It was Metuh’s company that gave contract to Dabo to create political platform for Jonathan’s campaign. Always remember that Metuh had already agreed that he collected N400M from Dasuki for undisclosed job and same Dasuki had also agreed that he gave N400 to Metuh as part of the arm money. The question you need to ask yourself is the office of NSA an office of PDP or as the name implied “National” or is NSA an appointee of PDP or what’s the correlation that the money allocated for the purpose of arms purchase be used for political game. The act is called misapplication of funds as is punishable by law.

          • Dan maikoko

Read my post again. Normal people will be scared enough to flee the country if the NSA handed you 25 mil and the only explanation was he would like you set up a website, any website. For me it will seem like I was being set up or worst marked for elimination.

        • Igwe

Pehaps we used the wrong word when we said “origin”. Regardless, our point remains.
No innocent individual is being tried.
Take the Bureau de change owner as an example, if he is ever called in, it will be as a witness for the prosecution.
Our point is short and simple. All those that are genuinely oblivious to the facts about the fund are ONLY being used as witnesses…they are not getting prosecuted as you alluded!

        • I Hate Sycophant

Is the office of NSA the secretariat or bank of PDP? For them to go their and collect money in any guise for political game is even an indictment because Dasuki has no post in PDP fold as far as our country is concern. He’s an employee of Nigeria and not PDP.

          • √๏и๏

Those are good opinions, the way things should be. But it has nothing to do with the law.

Nothing in law puts that sort of leash on the NSA.

          • I Hate Sycophant

It has nothing to do with the law? Are you the one talking or just being sentimental. Misapplication of funds is punishable by our law and all accomplice are also in for punishment.
Please have you taken time to read the functions of NSA office? Even if you’ve not literally you could get their functions.

          • √๏и๏

No funds were misapplied, but more especially, could be proven to be misapplied.

The funds in question were delegated by presidential prerogative, and by fiat, under security and national security shroud.

I have read the act that established the NSA, yes, have you?

          • I Hate Sycophant

Oh! no funds were misapplied? That’s a new twist from you. Using money appropriated and borrowed by Jonathan’s government to specifically buy arms and ammunition for the military to crack the activities of terrorism in the north east and pockets of unrest in the south diverted for political activities by Dasuki is not misapplication. Mr. Man, no known law empowers any President in Nigeria to use money meant for security for political gimmisks. Again from the information so far received by the anti-graft agencies shows that no document shows that Jonathan even authorised Dasuki to give such for his re-election.

You said you’ve read the act that established NSA. Please can you do us and the world favour by given us excerpt that point that the president can use allocation for the office of NSA for political activities. Please we are waiting. After that I will post for your digest all the functions of the office of NSA.

          • √๏и๏

You have already alluded to your confusion as to Jonathan’s role.

It will seem to me that EFCC should have first debriefed the former president, gotten statements from him FIRST before going on this silly wild goose chase.

          • √๏и๏

Like I said, there’s no appropriation here, and therefore, there could be no misappropriation. These funds were not budgeted funds by NASS.

            Don’t confuse yourself.

          • Julius

When the case goes to court you will find out that what NSA did was illegal. Stay tuned !

        • Julius

What da hell is NSA doing giving somebody money to create a web-site for an election ? NSA is not a political arms of the government. Thats how they gonna prove it. Remember, ignorance is of no defense against a crime.

          • √๏и๏

Ignorance is no defense to law in general, however, ignorance specifically to what money was slated for is defense to its diversion.

          • Julius

Genius, NSA office is not a political party office, either as PDP or APC. It has no business distributing money to anybody. Its fund comes from appropriation from the National assembly by law. As a matter if fact, there is a secret funding by the National assembly which before use must be reported to the Security oversight committee .

          • √๏и๏

If we are not naive, we know that NSA is PDP when PDP is in power, and APC, when APC is in power.

          • Julius

Its not true. It shouldnt be that way. I know Jonathan was using the DSS to harass the APC. That also was illegal. NSA means National security Adviser not National pdp or Apc adviser. Thats why we fund the NSA and his staff.

We know your daily crumbs depend on your coming here to copy and paste rubbish so I dare you to “stop commenting on the distraction of the so-called Dasuki-gate” and see if your pay will not be stopped. As usual, I would remind you of this soon.

U claimed “The elements needed to convict the recipients of that money is completely lacking, to ascertain “intent””.

Creek law you are used to don’t apply nationally. Dasuki cannot be funding PDP’s campaign in any shape or form. The fact that your mentor Ole Metuh put the money, meant for campaign (even though sourced from arms money) in his own company account shows that he knew what it was meant for was dubious. Dunce, Ibori’s lawyer and mistress were equally jailed for that “ignorance” you are pleading on behalf of your looting masters here as ignorance is no defence in law except at the creek !

U claimed “All former heads of state stashed away directly, or by proxy all the nations wealth. A serious assault on corruption will net the country trillions of dollars; all those former heads of state must be forced to relinquish these monies and assets, the country need them NOW”.

If only your Dumbo Jo had done a bit of cleansing instead of preaching stealing is no corruption, just maybe Buhari would not have this many to do. You cl0wns keep preaching everybody must be probed and yet you failed to provide any evidence linking anyone. When Ibori was jailed by UK, no one told UK all former Govs must be prosecuted. Just yesterday, it was reported 2 Nigerians were jailed for visa racketeering by a Nigerian court, you rag head didn’t claim all Nigerians involved in visa racketeering must be jailed first!
The most fresh crime whose evidence is still with us is that of Dumbo’s govt ad must be investigated first despite your wailing. If Dumbo knew Yaradua, OBJ were corrupt, he ought to investigate them but he chose to f00l you withhis stealing is no corruption mantra.

————–Presidential Arms Audit Panel Clears Jonathan, Confirms That Enough Arms Were Purchased.

A 13- man Presidential arms purchase audit Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to audit arms purchased between 2007 and 2015 has submitted its temporary report, confirming arm purchase within the period under review.

A presidency source stated that President Buhari set up and inaugurated the panel to conduct preliminary investigations after it was alleged that the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) diverted N13.2 billion of fund meant for procurement of arms for the Nigeria Military.

He went, look for money and return it . The Iboman, Olisah Metuh wanted to chew the paper that contained how the money was spent, and will not return the money , he was thrown into underground bunker, and chained to court like a goat that he is. an Ibo man for you

        • √๏и๏

Is poverty a vice? Why are chastising, plus abusing him because he is poor? Tomorrow you drive him to get rich quick, just so he could have peace from your ilk!

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            Lol

No, he’s not being chastisised for being impoverished (I wouldn’t know that in any case), but for the poverty of the mind he has expressed.

      • Julius

Maybe he never created any site. Have you thought about that ?

    • Darlington

Then allow “corrupt” Igbo man to go form his country of Biafra! Why keep holding on to what you hate so much with passion?

      • Julius

Who is holding Methu from going to biafraud ? He is free to leave as soon as he return the stolen money and finish his prison sentence. You will be waiting to receive him at the Onitsha bridge. lolz. You people are so fraudulent !

    • Peter_Edo

its not about ibo my guy, metuh is a goat.

    • Uzoma John

Sam you should withdraw your generalisation that holds no ground. Tackle Metuh for who he is. Don’t you ever bring the entire Ndigbo to disrepute because of few corrupt minds. We have “Metuh” in every Nigerian tribe. Dasuki that was sharing the stolen money, is he an Ibo man? Falae that refused to return the =N=100million he received is also an Ibo man. Don’t make yourself a laughing stock on this platform. I have restrained myself from using abusive language on people. I’m tempted to call you names. Be careful how you open your mouth wide to spew rubbish.

      • SAM .A

Do not worry bout greedy Falae, he will be carried in Wheelbarrow to meet the people who kidnapped him in jail . They will have opportunity to retrain him. Yorubas do not support robbers Yoruba will be ready to send him to jail and let him rot away .

  • concernednigerian

If you received money for the creation of an election website, that is not corruption. It is payment for a job that was executed. Where the money comes from is immaterial to you.

    • I Hate Sycophant

Yes, it’s not corruption but such person it confirmed and traced that the money he was paid was a stolen money, then such person become an accomplice. Let me give you a day-to-day scenario. If a mister ‘A’ (thief) come to your house and carted away your car and you saw your can with mister ‘B’ (thief). Does that mean your car is no more yours because you found it with mister ‘B’ or mister ‘C’? Or won’t you report same to the nearest police station?
Those returning the money given to them that are meant for arms purchasing, I know they know the enormity of not returning it when pushed to the court.

      • Burning Spear

Is Buhari also an accomplice in the theft of our resources having received 5 vehicles and 300,000 dollars from—–Dasuki-?—–Answer Yes Or No

        • I Hate Sycophant

No, because he’s entitle to security coverage which many learned lawyers have argued and submitted that the law does not prescribe who to give such entitlement to him, that any representative of government can forward same to him. His aides have come out severally that the receipt given in support of the cars point to that, that it was for his security coverage, which is part of the entitlement of every past heads of state or presidents. They also opined that those vehicles are not theirs but the property of the FG because is subject to return after every two years for change. What made his own look like that is because he has not been collecting it since he left office but the situation of bomb scare he suffered in Kaduna made him to collect it. By next year now, they would change Jonathan own because he would have spent two years.

    • Julius

Really ? So, if they had rob somebody to get the money to pay for the job its doesnt matter to you. Well my friend, thank God, the law says otherwise. I hope you make that defense in court. Why do you think he refunded the money back to the government ? Take your time, it require thinking !

      • concernednigerian

Really? Should Professor Wole Soyinka refund the 82 million Naira which the Amaechi government stole to host a three hour lunch for the Professor? My friend think before you pass judgement. The man in question did not know that the money with which he was paid for the services rendered, which he has enumerated, was stolen unless he knew. The bread sellers at Agege is not supposed to know that the 100 Naira used for buying a loaf of bread was stolen. Stealing is an offence against the state hence it attracts imprisonment. The victim can ask for reparation which in most cases is ignored. I do not want go on because this Dasikugate affair is laden with emotions. Has it ever been proved in a court of competent jurisdiction than money for arms was diverted for other purposes?

        • Julius

If you would be fair and truthful , you would have mentioned that Amaechi came out and said he did not steal any money to host the Prof. I see that you simply forgot that fact. The people that shared the money with Dasuki had already came out and admitted that they did in fact received the money. You see the difference ? By the way, Dasuki is in custody, right ?

Looking through the 2014 Budget of the Federal Government, a whopping N125 billion was allocated to the Office of the National Security Adviser. My question is, if the NSA is not entitle to award contracts, why does he have such humongous amount approved by the National Assembly!

Now we know how the e-rats were being funded. Wondered why these nutters were on every platform, cutting and pasting same comments on all websites. They had a full time job being paid for by blood money. It did not matter what the news was about, they all seemed to have one theme, run PMB down. SHAME on you lot. Criticise when need be, let’s move Nigeria forward for God’s sake, do not let these corrupt and selfish politicians use you guys. Ask them where are their children? They are all overseas getting on with their lives, yet you lot are blindly following and doing their dirty work and sometimes dying for them. Falae belongs to Afenifebi . At his evening time he has taken money meant for weapon , and he is bragging about it . His days outside jail are numbered
