The Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has backed Tuesday’s handcuffing of Olisa Metuh, the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, as he appeared before a court, saying there was nothing wrong with restraining Mr. Metuh.

Speaking during a meeting with the new council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State, in Benin, Tuesday, the governor said if those accused of lesser crimes are handcuffed and paraded by the police and get no sympathy from the public, Mr. Metuh and others, accused of diverting huge public funds, should not have sympathy.

Here is a transcript of the governor’s remarks, according to his spokesperson, Peter Okhiria.

“I want to appeal to the media to join President Buhari in fighting the anti-corruption war because if we don’t, and we allow these people to harass the president to silence, all of us are in trouble.

“I saw some headlines querying why should Metuh be in handcuffs. If people who steal he-goats, dried grass cutters are in handcuffs; I have been to the police station several times and I see young men who rob not more than N500,000 naira in handcuffs, they are paraded and made to seat on the floor. Why should certain set of criminals be treated as if they are not suspected criminals and serious crimes at that?

“When you all reported lavishly how under the former president, the former defense chief set up a military tribunal to try soldiers who ran away from battle field and they were condemned to death, it was only Femi Falana who was consistent in fighting their case. Those are Nigerians who were to be killed for running away because they couldn’t confront a Boko Haram that was well armed while they were asked to go and fight with their bare hands and we were told that weapons, ammunitions and everything had been provided”.

“When Borno Governor said, ‘look, our Armed Forces are fighting with bare hands’, he was told to shut up. Now it is clear from current revelations that the money that would have been used to arm these young men who joined the army with pride and who on a good day have the courage to fight not only at home but abroad, but because they didn’t have arms, they ran away. They were sentenced to death. Thanks to Buhari, some have been commuted now to various terms of imprisonment which I applaud and I think even that one should further be reviewed, they should summit their uniform but remain free people.

“Now, those who shared that money, this is not the usual security money, this is special appropriation to fight Boko Haram, $2.1 billion, people just shared it, everybody was using their son, co-opting young children into this while other people’s children were sentenced to death. And anybody who partakes in that and they put him in handcuffs, they say, why should he be in handcuff because he is an elite and the media will report it without also showing us pictures of some Nigerians whose fathers are not known, but are not less Nigerian than any of us, who are always not only in handcuffs but are put on the floor in various police stations and paraded even before they are charged to court and we all look at them and turn to the next pictures, it doesn’t attract a commentary.

“Why should some criminals just be celebrated even when we all can feel the amount of damage, the consequences of their rascality on our collective wellbeing. I think the media should support the President. This is not President Buhari’s fight, and you know he had reminded us that if we don’t kill corruption, it will kill us. Now corruption is fighting back.”

Trust Adams Oshiomonkey to run his mouth about contemporary Nigerian controversies… next up, Fayose. Clowns!

  • ayo

Please present this criminals to court in boiler suits with both hand and leg cuffs….That’s what we all want be them Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa I don’t care……

    • Otile

Ore mi Ayodele, this may be your cultural way of treating accused but not convicted persons, but it is crude, unconstitutional, and violets the accused person’s civil rights. Above all, it is ungodly.

      • Ade Omowest

Nonsense, what of the common thief (a downtrodden, not elite) arrested by police and handcuffed to court? I never read any of your comment (Otile) condemning the action, but you are quick to comment on Metuh because your are a PDP supporter.

      • tunde

Will you tell us how law enforcements treat accused person in court pal?

      • ayo

My guy no be my fault…We don tire for this people wey no get any thing to offer and no get better name for our communities wey dey join politics to go steal.

If we had good rules and systems in our country how come politicians are richer than hard working business men in Nigeria. They don’t build industries that can employ youths and keep the wheel of our economy turning. All they do is plunder the resources of our country at the detriment of all. No one in this country is enjoying basic human needs like good roads, water, health care, pension, good schools…etc.

Enough of allowing low life scum to lead and direct our destiny…..Who really is Metuh? If not for politics of rigging…..

For the last 50 years or so our ruling class have decided to retrogress our country nothing other than the crude system they have provided should be used to deal with them when they seek for justice….

No one gets fair justice from the crass judiciary they have created in nigeria and neither would they…

So no vex my guy for my hard stand……..

    • Julius

      Thank you.

I learnt $700million USD was recovered from Abacha’s loot. My humble question is how has that money affected the common man in terms of infrastructure such as power, roads, job opportunities etc. ZERO| My guess the money was stolen again. Fast forward to $2.1 million USD scandal and my questions. First all those arrested and the money traced has not amounted to even #10 Billion Naira whereas $2.1 is about #400-#500 billion Naira. Next is the APC Goverment is trying to scam the masses with this investigations while our economy crunbles? Amaechi, El-Rufai, Audi Ogbeh etc where they not all in PDP up till 2007? So what is all these noise about PDP being criminals and APC the new found saints. Or Is it the Oshiomohole a specialist in using the masses to foster his personal agenda but could not help a widow he saw by the road side rather he asked her to go and die? The APC Government is clueless to our failing economy, clueless in the rule of law, clueless about chibok girls. The days of propaganda are over this is reality APC wake up. There is not much left to be stolen again……………

    • Cele

It will be helpful if you could enlighten the masses in order to prevent them from being led astray. For instance, EFCC released figures and names, many of the fingered politicians have said they got money from Dasuki. So could you please enlighten us as to why these politicians are admitting legitimising such propaganda? I really want to know, because it perplexes as to why anyone would partake in such propaganda to their detriment.

      • IZON Redeemer

No wonder u have buhari imposed on us by the CIA as your president–no brain–there is nothing like corruption in dasuki–I am one of those who called for his sack long before Buhari became president–He was given the security votes to use-by Jonathan—–That is what Buhari is investigating———–and alleging that it was money meant for the purchase of arms—-The USA made it impossible for Nigeria to buy arms from south africa–do u in your right senses—-think it is individuals that the same USA would allow to buy choppers for the army—-why has Buhari not bought a single weapon———-U are too brainless for my taste—-a disgrace like Buhari———–sadly most of the people who follow Buhari about sheepishly have nothing upstairs—for any to be proud about–In the real sesne of it

  • favourtalk

He deserve anything like pity not from Nigerians because when they were stealing Nigeria, they were happy and now that they are caught, they want pity from us, they must pay for what they had done for years. Change had come and all the looters will pay for thier crimes

    • Otile

I agree with what you are saying but your English is horrible. Go back to night school and learn some good English, otherwise pay some literate young lady to put your ideas into correct grammar. Ogbeni, e gbo?

      • Ade Omowest

His grammatical error is immaterial, the most important thing is the content of the message and not his expertise in spoken or written of Queen English. Otile, ‘abi oyinbo na your mother tongue’? Grow-up man.

        • Julius

hhahahahaha, thats what the ass-hole does. Correcting online grammar. What a moron

  • K_Kenechukwu

Well said @Adams Oshiomole, some media organizations are just mischievous and are still playing politics with this corruption war. They seem to want to just raise dust where there’s none so as to create unnecessary popularity to their outfits. Radio stations like WE FM seem to be another Radio biafraud in the making, they do nothing but bring up frivolities trying to discredit the government and it’s fight against corruption. One begins to wonder whether NBC is doing its job in regulating what these fraudulent and compromised stations air. Good Nigerians must rise up and let their voices be heard, we voted this government into power with an overwhelming majority and we should not relax and see mischief makers bring this government down, we must defend the government at every opportunity and stand our ground against the rotten few bent on taking us back to the stone ages.

  • Engr. Raphael (AKA Deguvnor)

This is a very true talk from my comrade governor. I totally agree with your submission sir.

    • Issei

What goes around comes around let’s see and from osho after leaving office later in the year

      • Julius

Because he spoke the truth ?

        • Issei

          What ever

          • Julius

            Nicee, sign of maturity !

  • Jacky

Oshio is not only a thief but spiritually and mentally corrupt. If Ndume the man that boko haram confessed in a hig court that he IS the major sponsor of their activities was not handcuffed, then it means that Buhari is angry and bitter with metuh. If DOKPESI, and Dasuki that were alleged of embezzling billions were not handcuffed, why should they handcuffed someone accused of millions.

    • Ade Omowest

So 400Million Naira is a chicken change to you? Olisa Metuh is an alleged thief and must be made to face the law, if he resists the law enforcement agents on his way to court, he wiil be handcuffed to restrain him. No tribal or religion sentiment, Anybody found to have compromised his integrity by stealing public fund, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa/Fulani, Birrom, Urhobo, Kanuri or Ijaw must be dealt with in accordance with the law.

    • Julius

He tried to destroy and eat government property ! . In a civilized world he will and should be handcuffed !. If a traffic cop gives you a ticket and you tear it in front of the cop, you will be handcuffed and thrown to jail.

  • Kekedu

Methu ate big yams, statement paper, and even ate his biabia. He had to be restrained so that he will not eat the judge and to allow his biabia to grow freely.

    • Julius

Thank you. They forgot that simple fact. Once you do that, you will be restrained . They have the right to do that

  • IS BUHARI NOT A THIEF

Olisa Metu, Why Different Treatment by Buhari?

1] Dasuki, [$2.1b (N630b)] was treated with some dignity. No handcuffs.
2] Bafarawa of Sokoto accused of N4.6bn for prayers No chain or handcuffed.
3] Haliru Bello from Kebbi alleged collecting N600m with his son were never handcuffed.
4] Dokpesi allegedly collected N2.4b for contracts was Not given this humiliating treatment by Buhari.

Olisa Was accused of receiving N400m for his party, not personal gift or donation, was pronounced guilty by Buhari, before being proven Innocent.

Was Olisa Metu given this type of Treatment because of his string of Attack on the incompetent Buhari’s government or Buhari continuing his Natural hatred for Igbo people?
The Dictator, Buhari did a similar treatment in 1984 to Dr Alex Ekwueme the then Vice President of Nigeria who he dumped in a prison and allowed his brother Shehu Shagari the President to be in a house arrest—–

  • IS BUHARI NOT A THIEF

No wonder u have buhari imposed on us by the CIA as your president–no brain–there is nothing like corruption in dasuki–I am one of those who called for his sack long before Buhari became president-Same goes for Metuh—it is party funds–period——-Dasuki was given the security votes to use-by Jonathan—–That is what Buhari is investigating———–and alleging that it was money meant for the purchase of arms—-The USA made it impossible for Nigeria to buy arms from south africa–do u in your right senses—-think it is individuals that the same USA would allow to buy choppers for the army–? The purchase of arms went through the embassies—Jonathan said that much–why is Buhari lying again to us—As for Metuh what is good for Musa is also good for the Ibo man- That is the point we are making here—————–Can Buhari tell us where APC got the money to hire an American PR firm to lie to us Nigerians——-? Again–why has Buhari not bought a single weapon——since May 29th—-U are too brainless for my taste—-a disgrace like Buhari———–sadly most of the people who follow Buhari about sheepishly have nothing upstairs—for any to be proud about–In the real sense of it

no i think because he lacked civility and decorum, he refuse to cooperate and that has shown to the efcc that he is not to be trusted..he destroyed statement and attempted to eat it. he may be a danger to himself and to the efcc. it is at the discretion of the authorities. he is not better than tafa, audu etc that efcc brought to court in handcuffs. you have every right to side with him against the dead soldiers, innocent orphans, abducted kids etc. you can also scream to the high heavens to cry witchhunt, but we both know you are just restless and fuming because he is from your place, and even though he admitted to having nigerians 400m, but you still feel he should be left alone. if i may ask what do you stand to loose if criminals are witch hunted?

  • Iweka Okparaocha

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, or whatever you call yourself, the only Nigerians you will appeal to join you and President Buhari in condemning and disrespecting the people of Igbo origin in the name of fighting corruption, which we all needed as far as it is done propulsionately, not working so hard to silence Mr. Metuh or judge him, is Edo minority state peoples haters, Union of Journalists, Benin. Mr. Metuh is a gentle man with a good English vocabulary that Oshiomhole can not stand as he enjoys temporary Edo minority recognition now. The entire Edo minority state put togather can not restrain Mr. Metuh of all people but witch-hunt. I can see you as an educated illiterate, if you are educated at all when you used the word accused in a transcript of your remarks and fail to understand law that is simple, that a person is innocent until proven otherwise. You don’t have to be a lawyer to know that. So, ladies and gentlemen of Nigeria, Mr. Metuh did not steal 400,000 Naira until it is proven. Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, the backwards Edo State Governor and inferior thinking Nigerians are ignorant indeed, including the Judge who set his bail unbelievable high with discrimination and intimidational intent. The Judge is taking APC side and should be reprimanded. Everybody should be cautious about what is happening in Nigeria at present to avoid the repeat of the bad treatment and the killing of the Igbos before, during and after the civil war. Remember we have Igbos in military as well and will not allowed to be killed first this time around or allow history repeat’s it’s self against. Treat everyone the same, that’s all we are asking, or let us have what is ours, then, there will be peace in the land and no one has to start over again. The Igbo youths are agitating and you should listen to them, I don’t believe it is a jock, is real, they might be young, but warriors of tomorrow, fighting for their equal right and no one can stop but join. The earlier the better and good prevention is better than cure.

  • Ukpaka

Thanks Mr. Governor. I said it earlier…the handcuff is in order. There should be only one law for everybody.
In 2014, a sitting Texas governor (Rick Perry) was indicted for abuse of power and was booked and his mug shot taken. This was a governor of Texas and the booking all happened in Tx.
I can’t understand why most people think it’s ok to apply different treatment for “thieving elites”. Grow up people…a thief is a thief. I can’t find a better a way to explain this.
The same Metu went and beat up school officials where his son attends school (in Abuja) because a school official allegedly confiscated his son’s phone.

    • GbemigaO

Ukpaka- you are right and you made a good point that there should be one law for everybody but you arenot been 100% truthful and analytical. Have you asked why Dasuki, JAfaru Isa , the AIT chairman , the NIMASA MD , HAliru Bello and son were not in handcuffs when they appeared in court?

      • Julius

Maybe because they didnt try to eat, destroy the government property like Methu did !!. Have you thought about that ?

  • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

The vengeful pigmy Governor cannot hide his well known hate for the Igbo

    • Julius

Just what exactly did he say wrong ?. You need to stop exposing your ignorance and condoning criminality . It does speak well of you.

  • Otile

What happened to Ken Saro Wiwa will happen to Adamu ibn Oshiomhole. After supporting the Fulani herdsmen against Ndigbo they turned around to handcuff Wiwa, hanged him and burned his remains. Adamu will never learn.

  • Malchine

Hatred blurs one’s vision and clear reasoning. That is the cancerous state of Nigerians. They seem to be calling white “black” just because they are from the other place.

  • GbemigaO

As if you are also not a thief! If you are so clean sir, can you publish your security vote spend for the past 7 years please ! All of you are rogues , PDP , APC , APGA and God will send his justice over all of you for making life hard for ordinary people. When Lai Mohammed opens his mouth that PDP has messed up this country for the past 16 years , I ask – the people that ruled us , Presidents, state Governors and the legislators – which party are they now ? APC ! Yeye people. I still do not understand why we keep on allowing them to pull wool over our eyes. The same way we allow GEJ to mess up the country because of sentiment , we are starting with Buhari too. We dont learn ! While not defending Metuh ( as he is also part of the corruption, my issue is why was Jafaru Isa not in handcuffs. Dasuki ? The AIT man ? Haliru Bello ? Even his son ? Please let us hear story!

  • Julius

    Well said governor !!

  • FreeNigeria

True, but can somebody please tell this midget to shut his mouth and run his state
