ANPP tackles Okupe

Opposition party says Presidential aide does not have constructive job to do.

The All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, on Tuesday, lashed out at the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, describing him as somebody who does not have a constructive job to do.

Mr. Okupe, at a press conference in Lagos on Sunday, described the ANPP as a “moribund and lackluster” party.

He also blasted the All Progressive Congress, APC, the product of the ongoing merger talks among four opposition parties, namely ANPP, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; Congress for Progressive Change, CPC; and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,

ANPP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Emma Eneukwu, said Mr. Okupe does not have constructive job to do but merely polluting the remaining breathable air in the country.

“The attention of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, has been drawn to media reports whereby the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, in a press conference in Lagos on Sunday, among other insulting words which have already been noted by Nigerians as his signature work-tool, described our great party as ‘‘moribund and lacklustre’’, while he petulantly lashed out at the emerging All Progressives Congress, APC,” the party said.

“It is unfortunate that Dr Okupe, who was hurriedly hired by the Presidency as a decoy strategy to whitewash this lacklustre government, does not have any constructive job to do but to pollute the remaining breathable air in the nation’s space at any given opportunity.”

The opposition party alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government, for which Mr. Okupe works, has failed Nigerians, adding that though his curriculum vitae fits the job he was appointed to do in order to reinvent his moribund career, he can no longer confuse them (Nigerians).

It referred to the recent report by the United States, which found Nigeria to be abysmally corrupt, the concessioning of the National Stadia in Abuja and Lagos as well as the shoddy implementation of the Power Road Map in which Mr. Jonathan promised to give Nigerians 13,000 megawatts of electricity at the end of this year, as areas where the Federal Government has failed Nigerians.

ANPP described itself as “a great party” which was founded on a solid foundation and from where many statesmen of today sprung up to serve the country.

It said, “The ANPP is a great party, founded on a solid foundation; a platform from where many of today’s notable statesmen have sprung up to serve this great nation. If the truth must be told, the PDP today is peopled by many of ANPP renegades who could not sustain the timeless values for which we resolutely stand and are known for.

“In fact, PDP, a well-known gang of unprincipled ‘share and destroy’ pseudo-politicians, is irked at the realization that despite their orchestrated onslaught on the fabrics of our great party, we are still standing, girded by the singular thread of democratic best practice.”

The party alleged that Mr. Okupe is apprehensive that it has found other progressive-minded Nigerians with whom it will lead Nigeria away from PDP’s kind of politics.

“Dr Okupe’s apprehension (is derived from the fact) that we have found kindred spirits in fellow progressives in the nation’s political space with whom we are set to lead the country away from PDP’s cloak-and-dagger politics of personality to ideas-based and issues-driven politics.

“To be candid, the legend which says that dogs start to bark a few minutes before earthquakes is certainly manifesting in Nigeria. As a party, we believe that Dr Okupe, PDP’s faithful attack dog, has an inkling of the coming electoral natural disaster about to swallow his pay masters. Nevertheless, the universal truth is that though the dog can bark so loud, it can never stop the disaster coming their way.”
