MMM popularity continues, scheme’s website ranks top 5 most visited in Nigeria

The online page of a controversial deposit money scheme, MMM, has taken a spot amongst the most visited websites in Nigeria, according to Web traffic monitor, Alexa.com.

Statistics available on Alexa, a standard for online traffic evaluation, show that MMM maintained the 5th position for the most part of November, edging out major platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and online retailer, Jumia.com.

PREMIUM TIMES could not find a spokesperson for MMM to comment for this story, but the spike in its online presence might not be unconnected with its growing popularity amongst Nigerians.

Nigerians continue to patronise the scheme —which promises a return of up to 30 per cent on every investment within 30 days— despite all warnings from the appropriate authorities to desist.

The Central Bank of Nigeria recently rolled out a radio and television blitz warning Nigerians not to risk their incomes on the scheme, all to no avail.

Members of the House of Representatives were criticised by some MMM participants when they called for immediate crackdown on promoters of the scheme earlier this month.

Typical allegations from online commenters were about how the lawmakers were trying to block a critical means of livelihood for the masses.

This week, the group marked its first anniversary in the country by donating gifts to the internally displaced persons in the Federal Capital Territory.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that members of the community as part of their activities marking the exercise tagged: “MMM Cares”, donated relief materials to IDPs at the Gwoza and Bama Camps in Abuja.

They donated bags of rice, garri, cartons of beverages and noodles as well as clothing, and drugs, NAN said.

  • Cincinnatus

Please leave these MMM people alone jare. I don’t think anyone can do anything about it. The poor see it as their own version of capital markets and the numbers of the poor are growing. People send money directly to each other instead of the financial industry and get rewarded for it. You can’t blame them. You left them behind and told yourselves you worked hard, that is why you are rich and they are poor. Government should find a way to regulate it but you can’t stop people from helping each other for rewards. Not to worry, It will collapse on itself eventually when the bubble bursts.

    • Funke Lawal

I don’t understand the later part of this comment. Guy are you for us or against us.
MMM will NOT collapse and no bubble is bursting anywhere.

      • Cincinnatus

The reality is that the system is spinning very hard very quickly. This is not about whose side is right. MMM carries some risk that can make poor desperate people lose a lot of money. They are advised to use only spare cash but we know Nigerians won’t do that. The people who built this system know that the cycle can collapse due to some factors I will not disclose. That is why ” use only spare change” warning is advised by MMM.

To answer your question, I can think of a few ways to collapse this thing but i know the poor in this country need some help, and if their wealthy class won’t offer it, they should help each other, so I am keeping such thoughts to myself to protect MMM.

MMM has helped some people raise money to start their business when the banks won’t. I know a couple who lost their job and can still pay their children school fees because of this system. The powers are just not happy because they can’t regulate or tax it which is a credible concern.

        • ADEOLA

How much grantee can you give me that any Nigeria bank can survive if we all withdraw our money the same time

          • Cincinnatus

That is it. They are all systems that are built on illusions and as a result, they can all burst one day, MMM and banks alike. The only difference is banks are insured and regulated and MMM is not. It is all about risking resources for rewards. Our people need MMM at the moment and the government could use it to sustain and even boost consumption in the country to promote economic growth if we can gear it that way. But i know the financial industry. This is a threat they cant tolerate so they try to sound alarms and scare people as if they are not getting rich doing the same thing. Just keep your exposure in MMM acceptable to you because the banks really want this thing killed and they have the means to archive it.

          • ADEOLA

Insured for where, do you know how much Nigerians has lost to banks, I guess stock market and national lottery is not insured as well
We the participants own our money and we re not braking any law by giving and receiving even God in heaven is on our back
The same government that will embelze the money made for the masses and hide it away in Swiss bank are Turing around to tell me that they care
            Mmm has open our eyes

          • Symba

The fact is that Nigerian politicians think that the good people of this country will continue to be ignorant and slaves forever. What is MMM that is worse than nepotism. They fill up every job vacancy in Nigeria with their illiterate and uneducated family members, leaving our brilliant youths to walk about in the street. They collect millions of naira every month as salaries for doing nothing yet it is difficult for them to pay a minimum wage of N18,000.00. They should know that Nigerians don’t trust them and stop wasting their saliva.

do u think it’s only the poor who participate in MMM? Even the highly affluent ones in the society participate in MMM with millions of naira. Anyway, there’s another one called Meridians Life Support Ltd, where the team leaders do the work and u get d pay. for more info call or whatsapp me on 07039879194 or 08102630977.

1st of all 2 mill is not rich, trust me. Considering rate of inflation. This offers relief to the poor mostly.

2nd, don’t use this to open an office for yourself. You are opening the door to corrupt and destroy MMM; probably one of the reasons the govt want to shut it down. Just a warning

          • Rosemary

Well if your eyes have been open to read my previous comments, you’ll know that I’m an MMM participant. And because I’m a participant doesn’t mean I don’t do other businesses. I have an entrepreneurial mind of having multiple streams of income. If you still have a mind of servitude to your boss, I refuse to be in such a quadrant. Go read Robert Kiyosaki’s books – Rich Dad Poor Dad and Cash Flow Quadrant and you’ll understand me better. And if you’re talking of creating an office for myself – well why not call it advertising. And by the way, I’m not placing business opportunities here for the likes of you – it’s for business-minded people. So bro, relax…

  • Galantman

MMM is simply what the accountants called teeming and ladding, robbing Poul to pay Peter. It’s a vicious cycle and will surely collapse it’s just a matter of time. When the times comes it will be like armed robbers on a robbery mission caught up by a well trained and armed police, many will lost there lives, some will escape with painful bullet wounds ,some will be ruined for life and the balance will go to jail. ANY INCOME WITHOUT PRODUCTIVITY IS A RECIPE FOR SORROW

    • Cincinnatus

“Any income without productivity is a recipe for sorrow”. Tell that to your investment bankers and financial traders. Sit down there and tell people their money helping other people can’t reward them in return. You guys that hate MMM are mostly ignorant of the core of the system and how it works. The system was built by a mathematician who rebelled against the financial industry that seem to be getting richer while the people are getting worse off. It can work for the poor if you allow it to.

CBN stop wasting money on radio jingles and newspaper ads, MMM is paying through Nigerian banks – order Nigerian banks to stop facilitating these payments, 2. – get the NCC and EFCC to instruct service providers to block MMM websites.
Until you do this nothing will change…but of course I’m sure that CBN staff too are subscribing to MMM…therefore nothing will be done.

Seems there is little or no hope for nigeria…when 90% of us are dodgy the remaining 10% that are not dodgy will begin to look like idiots.

    • Rosemary

if u want to know about Meridians Life Support Ltd then call or whatsapp me on 07039879194 or 08102630977.

2.they can try blocking mmm website but it can be access through proxy
3 other countries have tried but failed to block mmm website , who are far better than nigeria

      • dami

You can block transfers if you know the origin….after all mmm does not run a pear to pear model
Also with a proxy or vpn you can still block websites or redirect their traffic.

        • bashir

No, it’s depends on the proxy or vpn you are using and hosting of MMM website ,example the ISP abroad can’t stop people from accessing torrent websites , recently kickass torrent was shut down because they caught the owner and handed him to U.S,

          • dami

Maybe you should ask how it is done and not take the position that it is not possible.

          • bashir

Not impossible, just that the people who want it down don’t have a clue

Thanks but no thanks – I’m not interested.

        • Rosemary

Read my msg – if u are interested CALL or WHATSAPP me…. simple English…. I forgot – since u hate MMM participants, u’ll also detest Meridians members and virtually all members of other online businesses. Except market women, petty traders and the likes of course… Take out the servitude mindset and develop an entrepreneurial mind. And let me refer you to these books – Rich Dad Poor Dad and Cash Flow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki – and see what side of the cashflow quadrant you fall in. I bet you hardly read books on entrepreneurial skills. Start from there first.

          • dami

I am very allergic to mediocrity and get rich quick schemes / pyramid Ponzi schemes and the like – hard honest work works very well for me, and I wont piss it away on Ponzi schemes.

You that you claim knowledge from all these books…it is therefore a serious conundrum that at the end of the day it’s Ponzi schemes you are advocating.

Half education is so much worse than full illiteracy.

        • Rosemary

i don’t care if you were being sarcastic or not. All I do here is to advertise businesses. And if you have an entrepreneurial mind, call or whatsapp me to join Meridians Life Support Ltd at least. Well if you have the mind of servitude – always working under a boss without being your own boss – then stay on your own and stop degrading business-minded people on this platform.

          • Alnight

            Well excuuuuse me.

          • Rosemary

….and miiiiiiiiiiiiind u – Meridians Life Support Foundation is a non-governmental organization that also engages in humanitarian services – helping the less-priviledged, widows and orphans, visiting prison yards, hospitals, etc. They also give free skill acquisition. They conduct leadership training seminars too. Or are you against engaging in helping the less-prividged, widows and orphans, prisoners and sick people? At least this is one of the tenets in any religion. Even among the atheists….

          • Alnight

Well now that you bring up religion, my religion forbits giving help for the sole purpose of getting something in return and not for the sake of actually helping.

A SELF DECEIVING COUNTRY CALLED NIGERIA

Twenty-one senators currently receiving pensions from government as ex-governors and deputy governors.

The current senators who once served as governors are
Bukola Saraki of Kwara, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Kabiru Gaya of
Kano, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Theodore Orji of Abia, Abdullahi
Adamu of Nasarawa, Sam Egwu of Ebonyi, Shaaba Lafiagi of Kwara, Joshua
Dariye of Plateau Jonah Jang of Plateau, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of
Sokoto, Ahmed Sani Yarima of Zamfara, Danjuma Goje of Gombe, Bukar Abba
Ibrahim of Yobe, Adamu Aliero of Kebbi, George Akume of Benue and Isiaka
    Adeleke of Osun.

The former deputy governors in the Senate are Ms Biodun
Olujimi of Ekiti and Enyinaya Harcourt Abaribe of Abia. Danladi Abubakar
Sani served as the acting governor of Taraba state.

Many former governors are also in Buhari’s Cabinet as Ministers. This includes: Ngige, Fayemi, Amaechi and Fashola (SAN).).

In Akwa Ibom State, the law provides that ex governors and
deputy governors receive pension equivalent to the salaries of the
incumbent. The package also includes a new official car and a utility
vehicle every four years; one personal aide; a cook, chauffeurs and
security guards for the governor at a sum not exceeding N5 million per
month and N2.5 million for his deputy governor.

In Rivers, the law provides 100 percent of annual basic
salaries for the ex-governor and deputy, one residential house for the
former governor “anywhere of his choice in Nigeria”; one residential
house anywhere in Rivers for the deputy, three cars for the ex-governor
every four years and two cars for the deputy every four years.

It is alledged that in Lagos, a former governor will get
two houses, one in Lagos and another in Abuja, estimated at N500 million
in Lagos and N700 million in Abuja. He also receives six new cars to be
replaced every three years; a furniture allowance of 300 percent of
annual salary to be paid every two years, and a N30 million pension
    annually for life.

This is the reality for all the 21 ex govenors and deputy
governors who are currently serving as senators. This same is also true
of ex governors who are now serving as Ministers.

    NOW I ASK:

How many years did these guys serve their states as governors and deputy
governors? Is it more than 8years? Is that a reason to be entitled to
pensions for life? Even if they are entitled to pension for life, must
    it be so outrageous?

As if that is not enough: HOW on earth can any public
servant with conscience collect salaries and allowances as a senator or
minister, and still have the audacity to claim pensions equivalent to
the salaries of a serving governor in Nigeria?

    IT ISN’T ROCKET SCIENCE……

Once you are elected a senator or appointed a minister, you
must forfeit any pension accruing to you from government at any level
until you vacate office. This should also apply to senators collecting
military pensions like former Senate President David Mark.

Yet these senators are in the Senate that is inviting the
current finance minister to discuss the recession of Nigeria’s economy. A
senator pockets approximately 30 million naira monthly as salary and
allowances. Our “honourables” are not interested to make laws that could
restructure our country into economically autonomous federating
States/Regions to save the country from sectional agitations that is
threatening to destroy Nigeria. The sad and hopeless situation is that
the rest of Nigerians are busy arguing based on party, ethnic and
affiliations while these enemies of state continue to rape us.

Do you know that it costs tax payers 290m Naira yearly to
maintain each member of our National Assembly in a country where nothing
    works & 80% of population earn below 300 Naira a day ? A working
day earning of a senator is more than a yearly income of a doctor; it’s
more than the salary of 42 Army generals or 48 professors or 70
commissioners of police or more than twice the pay of the US President
or 9 times the salary of US congressmen.

It’s high time the country had a referendum on those
outrageous salaries of Senators, House of Representative members and
    other political office holders.

*If you are seriously against the looting of our
commonwealth in Nigeria, in the name of democracy, you can let this
piece go viral by sharing it with as many of your contacts and groups
    too!*
