The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, on Sunday said the case of alleged forgery of Senate rules by some senators shouldn’t have been allowed to degenerate into one involving the police.

Mr. Sani said this during a courtesy call on former Kaduna State Governor, Balarabe Musa, at his Malali residence.

“The forgery problem is not the issue of police but the issue of the senate,” he said.”I got elected on the 8th senate. I was provided with document that I used; whether that document was forged, I cannot affirm.”

He expressed angst that even after winning the last election, APC Senators are still divided among themselves because of the NASS lingering crisis.

“We should bury our differences and work together,” he said. “Though some senators still have their differences, but I am not one of them; and not one of those who went and elected the new leadership of the Senate.”

Mr. Sani added that “the crisis rocking NASS is not in the best interest of the parliament, government and whole country.

“I belong to those who believe that, we should bury our differences so that the country can move forward and continue with our legislative duties and commit ourselves to those who elected us as senators.”

He described Balarabe Musa as a man who did not make so much noise about corruption, but led an exemplary life with the meagre resources under his control during his tenure as governor.

“For sure, you(Balarabe Musa) cannot be disputed as the best governor Kaduna State has ever had,” he said.

In his response, Mr. Musa said he and Mr. Sani have been involved in struggles for the socialist reconstruction of Nigeria to ensure peace, economic prosperity, equality, justice and the dignity of the human person and the development of the entire country.

“This is the struggle and it was initiated by our predecessors. And we are very pleased that the result of our struggle has produced people like Senator Shehu Sani,” he said.

“I have been associating with him for almost 35 years now, right from when he left Kaduna Polytechnic. Although now we happen to be in different political parties for different reasons.”

What is Shehu Sani doing in the Senate? He is so confused he doesn’t know what a role of a Senator is all about. A criminal offense whether in the Senate or in the market place, it is a criminal offense. Today DSTv showed the Watergate episode which I watched life when I was an undergraduate student at Kent State University. Listening to a criminal offense being discussed as a leader without saying a word, being at the spot is also a criminal offense. This caused the downfall of Richard Nixon. If the document of Senate rules are forged and used in arriving at a given objective by fraud, by Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police is responsible to investigate and prosecute, whether it is in the market place or at National Assembly. Balarabe Musa is one coin with two equal faces. People tend to take cover under false pretense.

  • kunle

tambari, you are right on point ….. sani is very confused as all his statements as senator is not in line with his civil activist credentials. he seems to want to sweep anything and everything under the carpet …..the senate is to make laws and not investigate nor prosecute criminal offence

  • PADDY PEN POWER

I AM HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED AT SANI. IS HE SAYING LAW MAKERS SHOULD BE FREE TO BREAK LAWS ? SANI ! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT FORGERY HERE ! ANYWAY, WE CAN ALL NOW IMAGINE THE SET OF PEOPLE MAKING LAWS FOR US. JUST CHECK OUT THE LIST OF SOME OF OUR LAW MAKERS – STELLA ODUAH, BURUJI KASHAMU, AKPABIO, EKWEREMADU, SARAKI, DINO MELAYE, DAVID MARK (AKA MR TELEPHONE IS NOT FOR POOR PEOPLE)

SOMETIMES I WONDER WHERE NIGERIA GOT IT WRONG. IN CIVILISED CLIME THIS CASE WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH AND PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN COOLING OFF IN PRISON BY NOW.

    • Nze Remy

You forgot to mention T A Orji

    • Marquis_de_Gorgonzola

Don’t you know there are others like SANI YERIMA, AKUME, ABDULLAHI ADAMU, ETC ETC?
I guess it was a ‘coincidence’ you only mentioned the PDP senators and the APC ones(Dino & Saraki) who have embarrassed APC abi?
      Mtcheuw…

  • Proud Yoruba

Oh yeah?! When the senator from Zamfara brought it up to Saraki and Saraki said that he was out of order, what choice did he have? It is a criminal act and police is independent, it is good the police is investigating, whatever the outcome, both sides can accept because of the police independence.

This senators have no love for Nigeria, they are lawless and they just want to protect themselves!

  • Man_Enough

sani is not going to make a good senator. how does he expect the senate to decide on an issue that directly threatens the senate president without bias? how could both the substantive and the deputy president preside over an issue they are being accused of?

  • TRUTH MASTER

Senator Sani was either misquoted or he did not mean what he said. Forgery is a crime and the agency constitutionally mandated to investigate such is the police. Now that the police have concluded their investigation and established that a crime was indeed committed, I think Sani should be pushing for the leaders who benefited from the forgery to step down immediately. You can’t build something on nothing!

In the meantime, the police must prosecute all those involved in the crime. No one is above the law.

    • B.Messi

‘misquoted or didn’t mean what he said’?????
      Hahahahahahaahahaha!
And you can yourself ‘truth master’.
Does the sentimental rubbish you wrote above sound convincing to even you??
Ascribe ‘sainthood’ to everyone in APC all you like ‘Mr truth’..they will keep embarrassing and disgracing you all..like ‘saints’ Dino and Saraki.
      Lol!

      • TRUTH MASTER

I wish you could read and understand!

  • True Nigerian

What is Shehu Sani trying to say? Has he lost his mind for being elected into the senate? How can you dismiss the crime of forgery with the rather bland and thoughtless argument that “we should bury our differences and work together” or that “the police should not have been involved”. A crime of forgery is more than your political differences between two political groups in the senate. Forgery is a crime against the state. The senate is not also above the law and its enforcement institutions, such as the police. Any criminal matter is potentially a police matter. So what is this man talking about?

You cannot seriously argue that the commission of crime in the Senate should be ignored, all in the name of your so-called “moving forward in the best interests of the country”. What do you regard as the best interests of the country? How does sweeping away criminality of senators (forgery) amount to the best interests of the country? The best interest of the country is that the senators who perpetrated this crime must face a criminal prosecution for their impunity, and the leadership mandate obtained from the fraud must be relinquished or terminated. That is how serious countries and serious legislatures respond to crime against the state.

Shehu Sani, please watch yourself before you damage your golden name.

    • Dan maikoko

Read this Hausa saying ‘”That is where I started” when the leper saw a person with eczema.’ Only God knows if Sani is speaking as Sani or he is speaking under the burden of a very heavy account that generates an SMS alert which broke his phone screen.

      • kareem

Ah ah. Mallam MaiKosai. So you are insinuating your APC anti corruption angel has been compromised by money??
So, you mean all those sweet comments he made against corruption before he was elected was because he had not seen real money before?
So the APC men were anti corruption crusaders out of poverty!
        Nawa o!

  • IskaCountryman

could someone enlighten me…what exactly or where did sani work to earn a living before becoming senator…

    • Dan maikoko

He was a human rights activist, probably running an NGO and if you dont know what that means, I will recommend you see an anthropologist to make sure your five fingers are those of higher primates.

      • IskaCountryman

how much does a human rights activist earn in a month…maybe i would become one…

  • B.Messi

A CASE OF FORGERY SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO THE POLICE??
I am SHOCKED! I THOUGHT THE APC MINIONS I HAVE READ ABOVE TOLD US APC WAS A PARTY OF ‘SAINTS’.
    LOL!
When this Sani guy hurled insults at the past regime, the gullible told us he was a ‘change Agent’. Now read the comments of the die hard APC e-zombies above. Same way Dino has slapped their faces!
Give all these guys one year..their position on issues will shock you!
Nothing surprising for the discerning anyway..for as my Dad who served in the first republic used to tell me; “YOU NEVER KNOW A MAN UNTIL HE IS TESTED WITH POWER AND MONEY”.
Obviously, the same charlatans in PDP also exist in APC..except that, the APC ones pretend to be what they are NOT..the worst types…

  • Abdul A.

WHAT IS HAPPENING? THESE APC MEN ARE SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTING ME!
SO THEY WERE FAKE OR WHAT??
THIS IS NOT THE CHANGE WE VOTED FOR!!!

  • Remi

It was the senate leadership that sent the matter to the police. When members tried to raise the issues, they were silenced by the senate presidency. Thus these members had no option but to explore other solutions.

  • Dazmillion

This Senator Sani, with his weed smoking eyes, is certainly not going to make any progresive laws for the country. I mean, is he is advocating that a weighty case of forgery should be swept under the rug? This is the kind of individuals occupying the senate.

But my surprise is that Balarabe Musa, instead of cautioning Sani for his comments, was praising him for fighting for the social reconstruction of Nigeria. Is this what their activist fight is all about? To reconstruct Nigeria into a society were forgery is a beer parlor joke?

    • kareem

      That’s the APC way.
This guy is a confirmed and vocal APC man.
      He is a change agent.
APC men can do no wrong.
      Leave him alone.

  • olutade

Whose fault is it when a pig is adorn to teach hygiene?

  • salisurabeh

Shehu should again not append comrade to his name, never ever, ever never.

Just read the incoherent and the inconsistent rubbish he is vomiting. So crime amounting to felony should have been hushed up?

Mtseew, these are the insidious and xincipient elites who rode on Buhari’s popularity with the masses to climb to positions of trust but are now revealing their fangs and their vicious avarice.

Just like Leon Trotsky said”the first danger to any revolution is the compradors from within”

  • Amadu usaini

Shehu sani you are just a random opportunist and for sure you are not a good senator police should quickly investigate you as you fail to see a case of police belongs to police. Just like you are still talking from the streets? What type of senator are you?

  • tundemash

I suspect Shehu Sanni is high on something affecting his reasoning faculty.

    • Fuzio

He does not want it treated the way area boys treat things. They are only good at fomenting trouble they are ill equipped to handle.

  • David Adeniran

Is this guy really a human rights activist?

    • Fuzio

One thing is for sure. He is not an area boy.

    • Saydo Shan

      One wonders.

  • SAM .A

I am disappointed in this man’s utterance, that a thief should be allowed to investigate himself or a forger investigate forgery? Is this the best his state can elect to the senate? This guy is better taking care of cows than making laws for human being.
He is one of those who supported the law, that a thief’s hand shoul be cut as penality for stealing

  • Omotolaaraujo

A crime committed in a body of government should be treated as treason.

  • Onike24

I understand that the senator is talking about Parliamentary priveledege, but I am not sure that it applies in this case, the forgery would have been done before the house sat, so priviledge does not apply here.
