Court orders over N13 billion Ikoyi money be forfeited to Nigerian govt

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 recovered from an Ikoyi, Lagos, apartment be forfeited to the federal government.

The total value of the money at the Central Bank official exchange rate is over N13 billion.

The EFCC recovered the huge cash, presumed to have been looted, on Wednesday from an Osborne Street, Ikoyi apartment in Lagos State.

The anti-graft agency said it acted following a tip from a whistle-blower.

In his ruling, Justice Muslim Hassan ordered temporary forfeiture of the money to the government.

He adjourned further proceedings to May 5 for anyone interested or wishing to claim the money and make case why it should not be permanently forfeited to the government.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: Are you a house help, PA, SA, or a badly treated relative of any senior staff of NNPC? If yes it is your turn to make easy and safe money. Others have gotten theirs by just blowing a whistle on Andrew and Nnamdi. You know where your man has kept those dollars, pick your whistle and blow. We will come out and watch the match!

  • emmanuel

Good development. But there is a corrupt angle to this who thing.
The funds that was recovered at the Legico shop- N250 million is set to be returned to the Alhaji who by Tuesday next week. The EFCC never bothered about rushing to court on that.
These were the hallmark of Buhari corruption fight in the 1980’s. It has also been the case since 2015. The next moment, some miscreants will say corruption is fighting back, when the father of corruption is Buhari and his hawks
    Regiment of Tribal war lords!

My question, how come the owners do not have identity?

  • Akiika

Exactly! that will save us from some crooked Judge that will release the money to the thieves. Since the money is from God, Nigeria needs it.

  • OGK

Another mana for Nigerian judges!!! What would happen to the money. One madcap would show up, swears to an affidavit that the money belongs to him, he shops for Ozekhome who in turn would market it to pliable Nigerian judges. Whoever handles it would be promised at least a billion and Ozekhome would appear before him to lift the forfeiture order citing dodgy law rulings. At the end of the day, the shameless judge would pull the wool over our eyes, lift the order and make good business of the haul. Welcome to the Nigerian temple of justice.

This corruption case may mirror the January corruption case occurring
at the Standards Organization of Nigeria (S.O.N) which brought Buhari bad
attention. The last may even not have been heard on that five (5) billion Naira
tyres scam. Chinese Embassy has a diplomatic duty to protect its own citizens
inside Nigeria. That duty does not include voluntary confession that bribe was
paid to a specific director of the Standards Organization of Nigeria to obtain
a genuine import permit for defective car tyres, but it involves assuring that
the three Chinese businessmen implicated are not used as scape-goats.

      China will put up
very rigorous defence for its own citizens that the three Chinese men
implicated cannot be indicted since they sought and obtained a valid import
license from the Standards Organization of Nigeria. What is authorized by the
government of Nigeria cannot be illegal at the same time. This is the moral
dilemma the Standards Organization of Nigeria has put on Nigeria’s way to
impede easy remedy for this mass murder attempt to wipe off thousands of
families in Nigeria via road accidents from defective car tyres.

        @javscongjavscong:disqus

Governance is an activity based on the confidence of the people that wrongs will be punished.

Anyone aiding and abetting the importation of five billion Naira worth of fake tyres into Nigeria by issuing
valid import permit cannot be trusted anymore to remain as Director of Standards Organization of Nigeria (S.O.N) and should be summarily dismissed in the public interest forthwith.

    • Redalert2017

      @Dazmillion:disqus

Has the Director-General of Standards Organization of Nigeria been suspended for EFCC probe to start?
What happened was that a group of rogue businessmen conspired with top officials of the Standards
Organization of Nigeria (S.O.N) in January this year and obtained a genuine import permit,
properly signed and sealed to import five (5) billion Naira worth of defective car tyres
into Nigeria. The deal went through, as the consignment passed through Customs
because the law of Nigeria does not allow the Customs to intercept defective
products if the products are not contraband. A whistle-blower later leaked
the five billion Naira scam to the press. Since then all hell was let loose,
as the Customs press office simultaneously blew the alarm that
Nigeria is being stolen away by creatures President Buhari
      appointed into public office.

For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that

seek death. Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity and the weapon of his shenanigan

will fail. There are thorns and snares on the path of the crooked. Anyone who guards

himself prudently will stay far from them.

  • javscong javscong

I hope the whistleblowers have been paid. If word gets out that whistleblowers are not being paid, EFCC might as wsell kiss good bye to any future recoveries. I am sure that this is just a tip of the iceberg.

  • Angry Niaja

This is just a tip of the iceberg, more to follow I’m sure, my only concern is some of the monies might grow wings, whose to vouch for those counting the monies, anything can happen, na Niaja be that

The money is mine! No one should dare tamper with it!!

  • LionHeart

Use it to better the life of Nigerians. If the money is divided by the population of Nigeria everyone will get 83 million Naira each. Then there will be no hunger, people can invest, young entrepreneurs can start the business of their dream. Sometimes I wonder why Nigerians are still suffering when so much stolen money has been recovered.
