Presidency clears Abba Kyari, says chief of staff didn’t use High Commission’s funds for medical treatment

The Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, did not use the funds of the Nigeria High Commission in London to pay his medical bills during his recent visit for emergency medical treatment, the Nigerian presidency has said.

“The allegations contained in a report published by an online news medium, are totally incorrect, misleading and a fabrication,” the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement Monday.

SaharaReporters had published documents indicating that the Nigerian High Commission in London guaranteed the payment of Mr. Kyari’s medical bill.

But Mr. Garba, in his statement said, “The Nigeria High Commission in London did not at any time ever settle the medical bills or any other bills for that matter as Abba Kyari personally took responsibility for paying his own bills. This is by the Chief of Staff’s choice. He pays for his medicals, his taxi and accommodation in the U.K in spite of the high office he occupies, even when there is no rule that says he cannot be catered for by government.

“For the records, Kyari was rushed out of Nigeria for an emergency medical treatment on the fateful December 1, 2016. To receive him on arrival, the Wellington Hospital needed to have cash deposited, or in the absence of this, a letter of guarantee.

“In order to meet this condition, the Nigeria High Commission in London wrote the Letter of Guarantee to the hospital for treatment to commence. The role of the High Commission didn’t involve financial commitments on behalf of Kyari.

“The Letter of Guarantee from the High Commission was meant to meet the routine requirements of the Wellington Hospital since the patient in question (Kyari) didn’t possess the UK National Health Insurance.

“Apart from senior government officials, other reputable Nigerians are issued with such guarantee letters to hospitals. A guarantor is not liable unless there is a default, but this wasn’t the case with Abba Kyari who paid all his medical bills by himself as he had done on previous occasions.

“Hospital records are available for verification to show that the Nigeria High Commission in London didn’t spend a penny on Kyari, as its involvement didn’t go beyond the issuance of the letter of guarantee to the Wellington Hospital.”

Sahara has been doing fairly well but on this one and the first lady, you goofed. Trace your steps back and continue being our watchdog on all these government officials.

SR has never done better than what they have repeated here. The trio mentioned in this case are likely culpable, but in the usual way, Garba Shehu and Adeshina will wish it away. Infact SR would have reported higher figures if th persona were Aunty patience. They would have said, they saw her collect cash directy from the cashier.
Hammar house of horror – APC; the house inhabited by criminals who have all been washed and made wither than snow.
I heard that Association of witches, Armed Robbers, Kindappers, Yahoo-plus guys, Prostitutes (so they can get better patronage have advised their members to join the APC.

How old are you? You’re whining like a 10 year old layabout.

        • emmanuel

Did you just know? The Bible i know says that those who cover up their sins will not prosper. Wonder why Nigeria is very backward? You are one of the problem.
There are millions of 10 years olds who do better than you and Buhari today. Who do you want to impress? Readers who already know your camelonic traits?

Lmaoooooooooo, its more like a 5 year old. He is a moron.

Recall i said the man in the eye of the storm would be transferred away from the UK High Commission and that would end the show. Asiha and the incorruptible Kyari are saints.
Meanwhile, the one positioned to take over would seamlessly walk in.

The presidency defends indefensible, did Sister Aisha not deny her own? Did Baba not ban medical tourism for government officials? The more wind blows the more faul ‘nyashi de open. Pikin we say him mama no go sleep, no sleep for ram. Thanks to Sahara, if not these people for no gree say them too de do wayo. TUFIAKWA, AZI GBA ndi ugha.

      • Otile

But if it was about oduafraud you would play dead. ode

  • Kekedu

    Thank you for the clarification.

Emmanuel, it depends on whose version you believe. You do not expect an immediate admission of wrong doing, it does not happen in Nigerian politics. I thought it was the job of EFCC or whoever to investigate financial misappropriation but definitely not presidency.
I always wonder if there is more to any issue where ‘presidency’ hurriedly denies allegations.

Buhari has shown since he was worn-in that lying is a past-time. The one who said no one pays anybody money for doing nothing and that he never made a promise to pay anyone N5,000.00 monthly has turned around to say he commenced such payment.
Na which Bank account the money enter, how did the very poor get bank accounts, who are the relatives of those who got the payment?
When Buhari and Atiku demonstrated their bribe-for vote skills during APC Presidential Primaries, most of us knew friends, relatives and acquantances who collected. That number was less than 10,000. Yet we nor know anybody among the millions that have collected N5k.
      Who will believe such people?
Burutai, Babachir, Prof. Yakubu, Dambazzau etc are all clean, including Liar who went to collect N15 million at BON. It is honourable believing such people

This is the level government and their officials of the Nigerian Enclave have lost respect even in an emergency situation outside the country, and they even have the guts to enumerate that. Clearly shows the high level of trust they enjoy among the committee of Nations.

Do they know any shame at all?

  • Omooba Adekunle Orafidiya

So, how much the Abba Kyari incur as bill? And how did he raise the funds to defray his hospital bill? Is it from the N500m bribe he collected from MTN?

  • tunde008

They destroy our health institutions and rush themselves to Europe for treatments.May they all not get well .This is while poor masses are dying here in Nigeria.

  • Otile

Comrade Abba Kyari was at no time in danger of dying. He was hale and hearty when he was whisked out of Abuja to Ingila for an overdue vacation. If he experienced near-death experience as the presidency claims he would have died during the arduous journey across the Sahara desert, then the Mediterranean Sea and Cis Alpine Mountain. Comrade left Nigeria in excellent health and come back bouncing like a fully pumped ball. It is nice to work for a relative who can fly you out oversees for vacation and cover for when questioned. Utangirma Allah.
