The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Tuesday said Nigeria would deploy 800 soldiers to the United Nations Mission (UNAMID) in Darfur.

Mr. Buratai made the disclosure at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre during the graduation of 755 soldiers and 45 officers that participated in the pre-deployment training in Jaji, Kaduna State.

The army chief, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Adeniyi Oyebade, said Nigeria would continue to deploy quality peacekeepers as part of its contribution to global peace and security.

He tasked the personnel to discharge their duties in consonance with the UNAMID mandate at all times.

Mr. Buratai said the rule of engagement in the UNAMID gives them the opportunity to exhibit utmost professionalism in the discharge of their responsibility.

“I caution you to avoid any ugly incident that could tarnish the professional image of the Nigerian Army in particular and Nigeria in general,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria and the United Nations have high respect for human rights and protection of civilians in armed conflicts.

“Maintain zero tolerance policy on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse; the Nigerian Army and indeed the Nigerian Government will also not tolerate the contravention of these policies,” Mr. Buratai, a lieutenant general, said

Earlier, the Commandant of the centre, Adamu Dauda, said the mandate of the institution was to provide quality training for troops earmarked for Peace Support Operation.

Mr. Dauda, a brigadier general, tasked the personnel to be good ambassadors of the Nigerian Army and the country in general.

Alhaji Tukur, only Mohammedan soldiers should be deployed to Darfur region to do battle with the Janjaweed forces. Christian soldiers have nothing to gain from that Islamic unholy war.

We are still facing insurgency at home and cross-border attacks by armed militias killing people in southern Kaduna and the Middle Belt and we still have 800 troops to deploy for foreign peace keeping?
When the army is currently hard pressed at home to protect Nigeria’s territory from Jihadists and foreign invaders? What manner of policy making is behind this and can Nigerian troops be deployed on foreign missions without NASS approval?

They`re going to defend their Arabic speaking brothers, that`s the reason Nigerian Army has always being and belongs to the Northern Nigerian Government.

Please keep our soldiers in Nigeria. Boko Haram is a more serious matter than peacekeeping in Darfur.

Did they not say the Nigerian Army has been overstretched by internal security challenges? If we still have enough, why have they not been deployed to chase down El Rufai’s so called ‘foreign Fulani’ herdsmen that have been killing innocent bona-fide NIGERIANS in southern Kaduna? Or is it because dollar comes with the foreign duty? Love of money!

PMB is like an irresponsible and hypocritic father who is deliberately blind to the need of his family but seen as a good boy by outsiders.

If he had done same in southern Kaduna; Benue; Niger; Enugu; etc who cares if you deployed 10,000 troops elsewhere.

Your priority should be responsibly, sensibly, sensitively, and reasonably ordered. I think PMB lacks all these leadership virtues.

All that bothers PMB is what will boost his image abroad. In the name of corruption war and peace keeping. Remove his political anti corruption fight and he has nothing left.

ONLY PEACE MAKERS CAN KEEP PEACE PERPETUALLY.
BUHARI IS NOT A PEACE LOVING MAN AS A PERSON, SO TO EXPECT SUCH FROM HIM AS A LEADER IS TO ASK FOR TOO MUCH.

    WHAT A SHAME!!!
