Some Nigerian soldiers missing, 13 others wounded after Boko Haram attack

Soldiers

An unspecified number of Nigerian soldiers went missing after an attack by the Boko Haram in Gashigar, a northern Borno community that borders Niger Republic, the Army has said.

The Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, said the soldiers were attacked at their position at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Mr. Usman, a colonel, described the attackers as “escaping remnants of Boko Haram.”

“The troops did their best to defend the location in vain. In the process, 13 soldiers sustained injuries while some are still missing in action,” he said.

The spokesperson said the troops suffered a “temporary setback” and had to withdraw from the location.

“However, the wounded soldiers have been evacuated and receiving treatment, while efforts are ongoing in search of those missing and clear the Boko Haram terrorists at the general area,” he said.

The Boko Haram insurgency in northern Nigeria has caused the death of over 20,000 people and displacement of millions of others. Boko Haram new

The group recently engaged in negotiation with the Federal Government which led to the release of 21 of the over 200 girls kidnapped from Chibok in Borno State in April 2014.

Despite the negotiation and despite losing initially claimed territory to the Nigerian forces, the group still carries out attacks like that of Monday.

    “escaping remnants”?
When will this remnants seize killing Nigerian soldiers and slaughtering people?
Please note that the cost of sustaining soldiers in battle front is part of what has affected Nigeria economy this the APC never imagined when they scammed Nigeria to get votes. That burden has been extended to the Niger Delta and Nigeria is reeling under such heavy cost.
Unfortunately, the blank brains do not know.

Boko Haram on Monday claimed it killed 20 soldiers in northeastern Nigeria, an incident which now places much doubts into the minds of Nigerians, following the alleged release of some of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. Boko Haram the group, using the name Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), said in a statement that it “stormed a joint position of the armies of Nigeria and Niger” in the town of Ghashghar in northeast Borno State. It claimed it killed 20 soldiers and wounded dozens of others in “fierce clashes” that erupted during the attack on Sunday, highlighting the threat the group still poses in the region to Nigeria. A community leader in the Ghashghar area confirmed the report. In spite of the many assurances given by the Nigerian President Buhari, both at home and abroad. That the war with Boko Haram has been brought to an end by his government. So which group released the fake Chibok gals—-to the VP?’ More questions than answers. What a shame–what a country—————————-what a lying failed government!!!!

Nigeria is burning in all its four cardinal points. There are still ominous signs ahead, because God gave Nigerians what they bargained for, but not his desire for his children. Weep not Nigeria, the Nebuchadnezzar of our times shall be swept away miraculously, and peace will come thereafter. I use this opportunity to express my condolence to the people of Southern Kaduna, on the incessant ethnic cleansing going on in your various communities. We men of conscience do acknowledge the conspiratorial silence.

to Bama and all the way to Banki which leads to Cameroun and the Central African
Republic are in the hands of our gallant troops. They have so degraded the capacity
of Boko Haram that the terrorists can no longer hold on to any territory just as they
can no longer carry out any spectacular attack.”

    Where is Rommel?

    • Defence

He is in hiding but you will find him in justice Abang controversial judgement article.

  • Mulenge

There is an article on the BBC web site today that, in addition to the four Boko Haram fighters released in exchange for the 21 Chibok girls, millions of dollars was paid through the Swiss government. So, what do we expect? Four commanders released and millions at their disposal, BH is going to become stronger. However, I am happy for the girls’ returning. But the long and short of all these is that the north has used Boko Haram and the lives of thousands as political and economic tools. Shame on them. If the northern leaders have anything like conscience, the guilt of this will be on their souls forever.

    • The Optimist

This idea of “the north” is most irritating! Who really is the so called north? Boko Haram is formed by a specific group and predominantly, at least at its inception, of a particular tribe. Stop lumping us all: the so called north is as diverse as the south. Would you say the Yoruba, for instance, is part of Niger delta militants just because it belongs in the south? It seems like the average person from the south is awfully IGNORANT of the structural composition of what he/she understands as t”the north”. Enough of this ‘myopia’.

      • cheky

I like your comment but please tell us the part of the north involved, we assume north is one just like you rightly stated.

      • Netanyahu

You all reason alike. Very violent and would kill with the slightest provocation. You must begin to differentiate yourselves. You seem to have the same world view in so many areas, politics, culture (of violence), education etc. I have not read from you condemning what happened in Godogodo lately. That is the point. You all like blood.

    • musa aliyu

So you do not know that Igbo and Niger-Deltans are among them? What was asari dokubo doing in his botched “University” in Cotonou? Training terrorists shipped to Niger end route boko haram stronghold in Nigeria

As long as Al qedia, Isis, Al Shibab, and other terrorist group are still standing with world power soldiers in other countries… I still give our gallant troops cool doze. If you think they are not working. Please enroll.

  • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

    Technical defeat theory .

  • The Optimist

That is what happens with self-deception! How many times have we been told that Boko Haram has been decimated (or degraded) by the army?
Only the wounded probably stood their ground as soldiers. The missing ones, as usual and typical during the GEJ era, are runaway soldiers.
Does the military not have any surveillance or sort of spying to monitor or detect Boko Haram moves? This ‘sit in one position’ method is not only primitive but dangerous and counter-productive. The military needs innovative strategies in this war.

    • musa aliyu

You don’t know what is called insurgency. Better go find even if it’s agbero job to do.

Our army should stop defending Nigeria. If you are killed, your family will continue to suffer. Nigeria government don’t care about the family of the killed soldiers.. When you see Boko Haram coming, please run for your life. Do not die for Nigeria.

  • marc umeh

Defeating Boko Haram is indeed a very difficult task that may last for years, no matter what they say.
Boko Haram is a regional movement encompassing vast areas of the northeast and neigbouring countries. That organisation has support from the local population (the KANURIS ). Arms , and other supplies move freely.
Tales of their defeat might indeed be premature !!!

    • IZON Redeemer

Boko haram is the armed wing of the Fulani Hegemonic Tree—in Africa-mumu—————————————-Shekau is not Kanuir he is Fulani——————-born and raised in—-Borno state———————————–Boko haram fighters have nothing to do with the Kanuris—who are not very religious people–same as the Fulanis———–found all over the West African Sub region–unlike the Kanuris———————–whose population does not extend beyond Chad—–but the Fulanis are all over the West Africa sub region like Mosquitoes

      • marc umeh

Then let’ s replace kanuris with fulanis. The point i am trying to make is that insurgencies can ONLY thrive with local support. For some reason , Boko Haram has co- opted the vast area of NE and other neighbouring countries to support their cause. There lies the oxygen that keeps that organisation going. Arms are shipped into neighboring countries, tranported to the war fronts, vehicles break down and are fixed, they need fuel to power their vehicles, fighters must be feed, hostages must be kept out of sight etc. These involve hundreds if not thousands of supporters . The logistics are enormous.
In addition to fighting , we should find out from the mosques etc what makes them support these people. If not , money for development will continue to be poured down a sinkhole .
Nigerian soldiers capture some of their fighters , so tell me what tribe are most of these fighters from ?

This is the result of cheap lies. What does one expect when the name of information minister of a Country is Lie Mohammed. They told us that they have technically defeated Boko boys. Nigerian Armed forces said they want to celebrate the defeat of Boko Haram, yet Nigerian government went into negotiation with the terrorist group they claimed they have defeated. The presidency refused to disclose to the Nigerian tax payers the amount of money they wasted in releasing the girls. This is Democracy indeed. How did we get to this stage? Who sent us this market? Imagine the military spokesman commenting that they were attacked by the Boko Haram reminants when the report had it that unspecified number of soldiers are missing. They have indeed defeated Boko Haram. Wonders shall never ceased.

  • smart G

Abacha loot was used to pay for the Chibok girls.
The money is automatically in the Swiss account of Boko Haram.
Therefore no repatriation is necessary for Abacha loot and no balance required.

  • JOHN

In the second republic they call themselves Kaduna mafia. Under IBB they were known as the cabal. Under this dispensation they are called North. They are the group that have held Nigeria in the jugular. They are the group that say they are born to rule even with very low mentality. They say they will make the government of whoever is from Southern zone ungovernable. Buhari is their present leader. Boko Haram is their religious fighting and killing army. Remember the time BH choose Buhari as their Chief negotiator. Buhari has now given them millions of dollars according to reports to buy arms and await instruction. So Islamic terrorism and the killings of innocent Nigerians will get worse as there is still power to be grabbed in 2019. Even when Buhari has not added a single value to the lives of an average Nigerian. Nigerians should wake up and upgrade their mentality that all these are not in the interest of Nigeria.
