Seventeen junior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been dismissed from the Service for offences ranging from drug addiction, certificate forgery, theft and absence from duty from January to September 2016, the spokesperson for the Customs, Wale Adeniyi, has said.

The appointment of two other officers were terminated for absence from duty while one officer was retired for drug addiction.

“Investigations into offences committed by the officers in the senior category are now being concluded,” Mr. Adeniyi said. “Officers found guilty are expected to face similar stiff penalties.

“These disciplinary measures were taken after series of investigations and deliberations by the disciplinary committee and recommendations were made to the Management.

“This process is a continuation of the reform agenda the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) promised upon his assumption of office which emphasized discipline, good conduct and transparency.”

At which Hospital were they tested————————————-that showed they were drug addicts——-? The officers should go to court——period–Sadly it would soon turn out that over 99.9 percent of those sacked are from the South- again—————Besides why is it that some humans most especially from the Fulani North, often wake up from the wrong side of their Boko Haram war against the South to make childish claims to justify their evil actions against the region—If the Nigerian courts could not try Buhari for Certificate forgery———–is it the common man that should fall a victim to the fake news from the department of Customs-?–The head of the Customs was even illegally appointed–by Bingo Buhari–because the law creating the department—-declared that no outsider should be appointed to head the Customs–Department—-But as would be expected that courts decided in favour of Buhari –Again why is it that only Northerners from the Fulani ethnic Group have been made to head the Customs and Nigerian Ports Authority within the last 40 years in Nigeria?

  • vagabonds in power

Give me one reason why this news should be made a headline news-by Premium Times–when the Customs department in Nigeria has been under the control of the Fulani North within the last 50 something years-?

      what!!!!

  • Lanre

Can we have the names of the affected officers? And thank you.

Drug addicts ought not to be dismissed or retired they ought to be helped through conscious reform programmes designed by the organisation. Now that the employer have retired him, how would he be monitored or helped? If care is not taken, he will become a problem to the society. He will introduce more people to drugs and destroy his own family. All this are cost to the society.

seconded and that is exactly what is happening, they have become problematic at the service headquarters gate. poor and myopic leadership is the bane of the problem.

Until you can prove that you are trustworty!

@ Burning spear, stop spewing things that you know nothing about, have you heard of Dr Bernard Nwadialo? Ogundemije, recently acting John Atte? Chidoka that headed FRSC was career officer abi? But he distinguished himself there so competence should be your watchword and not myopic tribalism or religious sentiments

Northerners like to hold top positions in places like immigration and customs. This is just a way to create opportunities for them. Shame on Buhari after 12 years of contesting presidential elections, losing three tiles and at least once shedding tears publicly.

    • Burbank

And bravo to a southerner president that made Nigeria richer than Singapore.

  • MC

Part of the north`s plan to overrun the nation. Those positions will be filled with Northerners. Wicked lot!

    • Burbank

      Irrelevant.

Customs authorities must take steps to rid the service of corrupt officers at the operational levels at the ports and border posts. Experience suggests that the impunity of some officers who employs fictitious benchmark customs values to rip off importers for personal gains has become more eloquent since the new customs administration came into power. The sacking of drunken and wayward junior officers is scratching the inherent malaise within Customs as an institution on the surface. Let the heart beat of Customs follow the heartbeat of the President on corruption.

If some Nigerians have lost their jobs on account of forgery, why is Muhammadu Buhari still our President?

    • Burbank

      Because there’s none. Simple.

  • George

And the chief forger Buhari is still there. Nigeria always has two laws.

Now they have sacked the Southerners to pave way for their nomadic brothers and sisters to take control of our Southerners seaports.

I hope Tinubu is happy now.
