Boko Haram leader, Shekau, is alive; mocks Nigeria’s anthem, pledge in new video

The leader of the Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, has released a new video, disputing the military’s claim that he was killed or wounded by soldiers.

The 39 minutes video posted on YouTube shows Shekau, flanked by two gun-wielding Boko Haram members, speaking on the group’s activities.

In the video, Shekau spoke extensively in Arabic and also Hausa, Kanuri, and English.

In August, the Islamic State, which Shekau had initially pledged allegiance to, announced it had removed him as leader and appointed Abu Musab al-Barnawi as his replacement; a move Shekau rejected.

Al-Barnawi is the son of the late Boko Haram founder, Muhammed Yusuf.

The recent video posted on Saturday, is the latest in a series of latest videos by Shekau’s faction of the terror group whose activities have caused the death of over 20,000 people, displaced over 1 million children and killed over 600 teachers, according to the United Nations.

Last month, the Boko Haram released a video indicating willingness for a prisoner swap with the federal government. The government would release their members held in detention across Nigeria in exchange for the abducted Chibok girls, the group said in the video.

The government has since confirmed its willingness to negotiate the swap but said it would only do so in negotiation with the real leaders of the group.

A similar prisoner swap in July of last year failed because the sect made more demands after an agreement had been reached, the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, said.

Last week, President Muhammadu Buharí invited the United Nations as a mediator in any discussion with the sect.

    Unless
Nigerians resolve to deal with treasury thieves by moving against these treasury
thieves physically with deadly weapons to stop those robbing the country and
claiming a right to do so, the country will never exit the pains and poverty of
recession for the honest Nigerians – because recession has no meaning to
treasury thieves and their criminal business proxies who stash away billions of
Naira stolen from the treasury by false accounting and false invoices signed to
dupe a whole country. Only honest Nigerians bear the whole pain of economic
recession. In short, until Nigerians rise and kill known treasury thieves in
each neighborhood there’s no hope or comfort for Nigeria.

I share your viewpoint viva, Ghana got it fairly right when rawlings eliminated their treasury looters.

    DEAR SIR,

Lies and lies of a Buhari regime…

    “The Nigerian Army
on Tuesday announced the death of three key commanders of the extremist
Boko Haram sect. The army said the terrorists were killed on Friday in a major
air strike on their location in the dreaded Sambisa Forest. The spokesperson
for the Army, Sani Usman, said the leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar
Shekau, was also inflicted with “fatal injury” during the operation.”

I WANT TO CALL ON PRESIDENT MUHAMADU BUHARI TO TRY HONESTY FOR ONCE.

HIS MANY LIES HAVE NOT WORKED BUT BACK-FIRED TO DESTROY NIGERIA TODAY.

LAI MUHAMED SAID THE GUNS OF OUR SOLDIERS BACK-FIRE TO KILL OUR SOLDIERS.

THAT BACK-FIRING LIE WAS TOLD AS PART OF A SERIES OF LIES NOW DISGRACING BUHARI.

“Oh tyrants, I’m in a happy state, in good health and in safety.

“You have been spreading in the social media that you injured or killed me.”

Look, look, let us call a spade a spade. President Buhari with all his general rank, has no military intelligence
to fight Shekahu Abubakar, not to talk of injure him. Therefore, what we can do now is to accept the situation.
We should beg Shekahu Abubakar. That’s the only way, since the Buhari government cannot fight Boko Haram.
We should remove shame from this thing and beg Boko Haram. That’s all. All this bold face will not work again.
Buhari cannot fight or even defeat Boko Haram. Buhari should therefore beg Boko Haram not to defeat Nigeria.

      @disqus_RvLOMoDkGN:disqus

This is not just nine lives O! This Shekahu Abubakar said he’s coming to Abuja to capture Buhari.

I am not taking it as mere threat. There’s nothing Shekahu Abubakar has said and did not do O!

  • John A

    A cat with 9 lives.
When will the Nigeria army learn to behave like an army instead of a boy scout?
Now the man has come out to refute all their false claim.

Imam is alive and kicking. Imam Abubakar ibn Shekau Allah, ya gafata Mallam

WHY CANT THIS GOVERNMENT KILL THIS DUDE ONCE AND FOR ALL INSTEAD OF FLOGGING AND TRYING TO GAG JOURNALIST WHO EXPOSE THEIR CORRUPT AND SHADY DEALINGS…JUST A QUESTION..ABEG NO FLOG ME OO

  • Otile

It will be bla bla bla until Imam Shakau himself captures Buhari alive and the world will be shocked.

  • yesyoumay .

Odd that Nigeria, purported to have the richest economy in Africa, can’t muster up the wherewithal to eliminate Boko Haram and its leaders by now!

    • emmanuel

It took over 11 months to get another look alike. Cngrats for repackaging Boko Haram, but we know.

  • wode

This image shows something… that Boko Haram are not getting military gears again. They seem to be getting cut off.

For the military, they should stop providing information based on speculation. They would only be believed if they show empirical facts – like showing Shekau’s lifeless body when killed. Nonetheless, I don’t think this degrades the good work they have been doing so far. So let them forge ahead and ensure professionalism

  • Ayodeji

What type of army does Nigeria have? Shekau threat must not be taken without seriousness as our corruption-ridden military would do. When American government claimed to have killed Osama bin Laden, we never saw him again alive.

  • LionHeart

So Shekau is back to life? Very soon Shekau will be on Guiness book of records for coming back to life multiple times. Nigerian Army I hail una.

  • John Okolie

I did say that the next video will tell us the true state of things and there you have it. Operation Python dance, operation dole lafia and crocodile smile and God knows which operation is in the pipelines, ah, maybe operation ninja turtles, oh my God, this is embarrassing.

You send the army, the customs and the police to harass and extort money from people in the east who have done nothing but question the sanity of this administration while playing a game of horsy with people who have murdered and maimed thousands. Unfassbar.

    I told you so.
