Accused of diverting N2.3 billion of public funds, a former minister, Godsday Orubebe, has been granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

The Abuja High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Mr. Orubebe, a former Niger Delta Affairs Minister.

Junior officials to Mr. Orubebe at the ministry, who were accused alongside the minister, however, received higher bail sums. The court granted bail in the sum of N20 million each to Oludare Alaba and Ephraim Zeri, Directors of Contract in the ministry.

Messrs. Orubebe, Alaba and Zeri were arraigned on a six-count charge by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.

The judge, Olukayode Adeniyi, in his ruling, ordered Mr. Orubebe to produce one surety in like sum.

Mr. Adeniyi said Mr. Orubebe’s surety must be a responsible Nigerian with evidence of three years tax payment and land property owner within the FCT.

He said Messrs. Alaba and Zeri should produce one surety each in like sum, who must be an assistant director in the civil service and a land owner within the court’s jurisdiction.

The judge ordered that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means.

Mr. Adeniyi said Mr. Orubebe shall remain in the custody of ICPC until his bail conditions were met.

He adjourned the case till November 10 for hearing.

The defendants allegedly diverted about N2.3 billion meant for the dualisation of Section IV of the East-West Road.

Mr. Orubebe allegedly circumvented a Federal Executive Council approval for the dualisation of the Eket-Oron Road, part of the East-West Road which runs from Edo to Bayelsa.

He allegedly instructed the contractor, Gitto Construction, to rehabilitate instead of dualising as approved by the council.

Mr. Orubebe and others were also charged with conferring undue advantage on the construction firm when they caused the money meant for compensating residents whose property were marked for demolition paid to Gitto.

He was also accused of making false statements to the ICPC claiming that the decision to rehabilitate the road rather than dualise it was taken after he had left office as the minister.

Mr. Orubebe achieved notoriety after he tried to stop the former electoral commission chairman, Attahiru Jega, from announcing the electoral victory of President Muhammadu Buhari during a live broadcast after last year’s election.

A staunch backer of immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, the former minister later apologised for his actions.

However, one of his most reported movements across the region, heading towards the southwest was only when he led the Miyeti Allah (The Cattle Herdsmen Body) as one of the patrons to protest the killing of Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State. And apart from his commitment towards the welfare and growth of Islam and his concern for his Hausa Fulani political hegemony in Nigeria, none of us here alive can point out Buhari’s nationalistic activities since he was chased out of power in August 1985.Yet we elected him president.

This is a man in charge of all us. With him as the President, we are now officially worse than those living anywhere in the World. Before it was okay to say suffering and smiling but now, Nigerians are suffering and dying without smiling.

Lastly, if you are still supporting Buhari, may your life be as depressed as Nigeria.

We are disappointed with those that voted, canvassed for or aided Buhari’s emergence as the President of this Country. Yes, US and Britain supported him because they prefer a pawn, as a matter of fact, a man without any clue of the game theory. Even Abacha understood better, God bless his soul, because Buhari has made him a saint. Nigerians were better off, in spite the numerous sanctions and embargoes placed on Nigeria, during Abacha’s era.

1.1 All of a sudden, in what appears to be a spell on some of us, we lost every sense of our past history. A man who in his name, some innocent people were brutally killed including youth Corpers, when he lost the presidential election of 2011. Maybe someone should show me a video clip of him visiting the deceased families.

Accused of diverting N2.3b, granted bail for N10m. Only in Nigeria do we hear such nonsense.

In 1985, we were rescued by IBB and Dogonyaro. Immediately, people

experienced a reversal. Within a very short time, the cooperatives

closed, food became abundant again, the Naira stabilised, mothers stopped

selling their jewellery, and so on. It makes one wonder!

If there were no reference points, Buharists may claim that “if only he

had been president”, but the mid-80s proved that the worst period in

Nigeria’s history were the 20-odd months he was in power, sandwiched

between two periods of plenty and growth.

Therefore, they cannot bring the argument that today’s sufferings and

impoverishment were the fault of the past regime – because we will

counter with “TAKE HIM OUT NOW LIKE IBB DID IN 1985 AND SEE IF BY THIS

CHRISTMAS, YOU WILL NOT BE SMILING AGAIN.

Someone told me today that he predicts that by this Xmas or next Easter

at the latest, a person will come and offer a Toyota Camry in exchange

for N50,000, just so that his family can eat and make merry over the

    holidays!!

Nigerians simply don’t refer to history! And I have run out of every

single drop of sympathy in my body.

SO, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, KEEP STEWING IN YOUR BROTH. MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU

WILL SHELVE PARTISANSHIP, TRIBALISM, ETHNICISM, RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY,

    HATRED, INTEREST AND ALL THAT
