President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his government will deliver on its promised change.

In his Easter Message Saturday, the president thanked Nigerians for being patient with his government in its first 10 turbulent months in office.

The president’s full text:

EASTER MESSAGE TO THE NATION FROM PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

Fellow Nigerians,

I rejoice with you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters, as we celebrate Easter.

For Christians all over the world, this celebration is in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice which Jesus Christ made for the salvation of mankind.

The Gospels also tell us that during his earthly ministry, Jesus Christ repeatedly urged his disciples and followers to “love one another as I have loved you”.

As we celebrate Easter this year, I sincerely believe that it will serve our dear nation very well if we all imbibe this essential message of Jesus Christ and truly learn to love our countrymen and women as we love ourselves.

Indeed, we will surely make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country we all desire if, as a nation, we eschew all divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with our compatriots, as Jesus Christ and the founders of the world’s other great religions enjoined mankind.

Our unfortunate notoriety in recent years as a country where the blood of men, women and children are wantonly and callously shed in frequent orgies of criminal, political, ethnic and religious violence has become very embarrassing and utterly unacceptable.

My administration is determined to achieve greater peace and security across our nation by ending the avoidable conflicts and crises that hinder our national progress.

I ask for greater support from all Nigerians in this regard. We must put a stop to politically motivated killings. Our communities must be made safe again for all inhabitants to live together in peace and harmony.

Our armed forces, police and other security agencies are being progressively reformed, repositioned and empowered to win the war against terrorism and make mass killings, abductions and other criminal atrocities things of the past in our beloved country.

Let us all also play our parts as patriotic citizens and do all that we can to ensure that we make Nigeria a safer, more peaceful and happier place for its people and others.

Faith, belief and the fulfilment of expectations are also key themes of the Easter celebration. I urge you all therefore, to continue to have faith in the future greatness of our country and to believe that the CHANGE my administration promised will surely come to fruition.

That CHANGE, which we all yearn for, will certainly occur more rapidly if we all place the love of our country above selfish personal and group interests.

The National Assembly has just passed the 2016 budget. I assure all Nigerians that we will do our utmost best to ensure that the budget, the first since my election as President, is efficiently and successfully implemented towards achieving our objective of faster economic growth and development.

I thank the vast majority of Nigerians for their patience and understanding in the first ten months of this administration.

As we go forward, I assure you all that we are working very hard to overcome the challenges we encountered on assumption of office.

We are moving on with an unshaken resolve and determination to deliver on the mandate you gave us on March 28, last year.

I wish you all very happy Easter celebrations.

Rotimi Amaechi Is Feeding Lies To Muhammadu Buhari – The Trent

A remark about Rivers State made by President Muhammadu Buhari dominated the headlines Friday, March 25, 2016.

On Thursday, at the National Executive Council meeting of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, the President tagged Rivers as the deadliest state in Nigeria. “I think that more Nigerians are killed or killed themselves in Rivers than in any particular state,” Buhari said as he admitted the failure of his government in curtailing violence during the Kogi and Bayelsa government elections, and the River rerun legislative election. Yet it was the money from the state via Amaechi that made Buhari President-Sadly most of those under lock and key in his Gulag are Ijaws-
But Our reporter met with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Mr. Emmanuel Aguma who spoke with The Trent in his personal capacity as a citizen of Nigeria. We asked him what he thought about Buhari’s remarks about the ‘deadliest’ status of Rivers.

“First and foremost, I find the president’s statement quite unfortunate.( How Mr Aguma? Buhari has secuirty Report at his disposal) But, I also do not blame him because he does not live in Rivers State and he only acts on information he is fed. I believe that the information given to him is totally and completely distorted,” said Aguma, who is also the Attorney General of Rivers State at an interview session on Friday, Why did he not say same about Borno state—?———Buhari is a curse to Nigeria

    • Tunsj

      Couldn’t agree more.

    • TrueNja

The only way Buhari can succeed is for him to stop bringing religion into politics.

    • sab

That is our hope and prayer too. The only problem is that you who feel that you and only own Buhari don’t accept fault; you hate criticism even when you were the one that invented criticisms two years ago. You hated patience and now asking people to be patient. Genuine repentance comes from the heart, not from the lips. You and I are feeling the pains but you have not admitted it. Under that situation, how do you expect Buhari to know, realize and understand that his citizens are suffering or that there is something fundamentally wrong with his government? Fela once said…’suffering and smiling’…surely, you know that is what every Nigerian is passing through at the moment. Instead, you will forget all your election promises and keep on blaming Jonathan and PDP for all the failings of this administration. If you don’t know, get it clear right away: Nobody wants Buhari to fail, if there is, it is you who don’t see any of the obvious wrongs in his style of ruler-ship. The more you keep blaming PDP almost a year after they conceded power, the more you make that party popular. Criticism is an essential part of opposition in democratic dispensation. As a party, APC played this role effectively. Now in power, you no longer want to hear the voice of opposition and you expect things to work out well. Five years ago, a certain Aminu Tambuwal was aided by ACN to go against his party and stand for election as Speaker of the House of Reps. He won and a certain LAI MOHAMMED dubbed it VICTORY FOR DEMOCRACY. Four years later, PDP aided a certain BUKOLA SARAKI to go against his party and stand for election as Senate President. He won and same LAI MOHAMMEd dubbed it TREACHERY. In 2011, the Federal Government dragged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Code of Conduct Tribunal for ‘wrong declaration of assets’. The tribunal judge threw out the charges on the ground that the law states that Tinubu should be first served with the charges so he can reply. If not satisfactorily, he faces trial. Today, same Federal Government dragged Saraki to the tribunal without first serving him with the allegations for his reply prior to his trial. Good enough, the same judge is still on seat but sad enough, the same judge said the charges were proper and that he made the Tinubu judgement in ‘error’. Is there not something fundamentally wrong here? Has not our laws been turned on its head? Have we not invented two verses of the law for two separate purposes? Where is the precedent in the law? So, I think lots are wrong but we fail to see and accept just because we claim to love one at the expense of the other. Like it is often said, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. If another government emerges tomorrow and starts acting its own way, I hope, just hope, you will not complain.

Great and progressive message from Mr president, let us hope those who have ears will listen,he did say vast majority of Nigerians which means we recognize that there is a minority who have been the beneficiary of maladministration of Nigeria that are resisting change and doing all they can to bring the administration to disrepute by sabotaging everything, they will not prevail for the gates of heaven has been shut against them.

    • Maria Darego

Nobody is sabotaging anything!!!! You were here last year when the man took six months to form a cabinet and ended up with Amaechi and Fashola!!!! Amaechi and Fashola were with Buhari before March 28th 2015 and before May 29th 2015 so he could have appointed them on June 1st and moved on!!!! He wasted all that time for nothing and the economy collapsed!!!! To prevent the current economic collapse, This country needed to borrow money to stimulate the economy during a very small window (July 2015 – October 2015) last year but Buhari could not do anything because he did not even have ministers!!! Now nobody would lend him money anymore, so he would go to China from USA next week to beg and let’s pray they don’t turn him down!!!! A President who does not know and who does not listen is dangerous!!! Blame Buhari!!! Nobody is sabotaging anything!!! Even his party leaders are now sitting on their hands since he does not listen to them!!! Now go on and call me names as usual!!

    Faith is taut belief
in things not seen but it excludes mass delusion in silly mis-belief of obvious
failures that can be seen in existence. Nigeria is worsening into a complete
rot under Muhamadu Buhari. Faith in the context that the rot is not happening,
is sheer delusion. Buhari’s only slender claim to effort in fighting corruption
has been assessed by U.S News in partnership with BAV and Wharton (below)
    and adjudged as nonsense.

Now, with disgraceful zero percent scored
fighting corruption, Muhammadu Buhari has no other basis to plead faith since
nothing can be placed on nothing. President Buhari is an incompetent failure
on all markers. He does not inspire Nigeria or inspire the world. He is bereft.
Nigeria is today the most corrupt country in the world because Buhari was fighting
vendetta and looking at the rear-mirror to fight past thefts whilst current thefts by his
appointees and by his aides soar to the rafters. Buhari has failed beyond repairs.
Buhari must go for gross incompetence.

Mr President we believe that you will lead Nigeria to a new dawn regardless of how difficult it might appear right now because yours is a divine appointment. When the wall of Jerusalem was being rebuilt in the old testament there are naysayers in the person of Shambalat and Tobias who were laughing Nehemiah to scorn. That same spirit dwells in the heart of many in Nigeria today and hence I can understand the discouraging words from that quarters. Yes, the work ahead of Buhari is daunting but through the persistent prayers and intersession of the believers the new Nigeria will emerge regardless of obstacles from territorial spirits of Nigeria. Buhari and Osibajo should stay focused and be courageous because like the Israelites of old who were heading to the promise land, murmur at every appearance of obstacles on their way and craved to go back to Egypt the discouragers amongst us want to go back to the sleazy ways of Egypt. The good news is we now say ” bye bye to jati jati” in the name of Jesus and to Cannan we are heading. May God bess Nigeria.

Next time, I will advice that we should all be very courteous in our statements. There is no need to curse someone just expressing his/her views. I ask for civility. God bless you

Is Muhamadu Buhari not eating humble pie now,
and begging Nigerians not to lose total faith in him? But the same Buhari
had come into power on 29th May, 2015; strutting with supercilious gaits
of Hercules who’s come to rescue Nigeria and to rescue the world. Thinking
people screamed havoc at the time but the self-destructive populace did not
take heed that an empty-headed fascist has been enthroned over Nigeria. When
later on, specifically on 30th September, the rest of the world took note that a totally
immoral man has been sworn into office as president of Nigeria, and has since assembled
a clutch of notorious thieves as Ministers and aides, it was too late. Nigeria was already
in 24 hour electricity blackout, with all investments on the Stock Market burnt.

BUT WOLE SOYINKA ENDORSED MUHAMADU BUHARI AS GOD-SEND AND WOLE SOYINKA

ALSO SAID BUHARI IS A BORN-AGAIN DEMOCRAT; IN WHAT’S A LAUGHABLE PHRASE TODAY.

You have failed already by not reforming the judiciary and not holding the looters to account and for allowing pdp to still be incharge of the nation. All pdps that were defeated are now back either in the house or senate or as governors…you have failed the youths by not addressing youth unemployment. BTW, do you no the real percentage of unemployed youths? I championed and supported you..but I am very disappointed.!

Indeed, Muhamadu Buhari and Raji Fashola are the two
worst performing Ministers in Nigeria today. Nigeria may have a slight
chance of success if both men are removed from federal cabinet forthwith.
But since Muhamadu Buhari – the Petroleum Minister – is also the President
of the country, he shall have the liberty to appoint a competent person in his
own replacement, an option Raji Fashola should never have in his one-way
dismissal for gross incompetence as Electricity Minister.

  • Papa Oghworiodo [Warri]

    MY CHILDREN,

Una good morning. I want you to consider this matter. If you people say President Buhari has become
stark illiterate, who will now save Nigeria? Everywhere in Warri people are saying the same thing you
are saying here that our president can not read or write well. What i am now thinking is that maybe
the Vice President can read and write but some people are telling me that he is a useless man too.
If you have that kind of bad situation, you must not rush to impeach President Muhamadu Buhari
because there is no sensible person that can take over for now. I heard it on radio two days ago
that APC people want to finish their own Senate, President Bukola Saraki. As that is the case,
the best thing now is to cool down because the CHIEF JUSTICE of Nigeria that should be next
to take over looks a bit sick and was sleeping in public the other day as if he’s not healthy.

Instead of Buhari to look for humble, smart and dynamic people to help him grow the economy of Nigeria, he decided to surrounded himself with the Northerners as his close advisers and I wish him good luck. In the history of Nigeria, the only region that had never worked hard to survive are the Northerners. They get easy government appointments and always get easy placement in the federal enterprises. The Northerners get easy promotions for little effort.
Despite the trillions of Naira pumped in the Northern region from the time of the military era to the present time, the Northern region is still the least developed region and has the least educated people in Nigeria. So who is kidding who.

    • New Nigerian

Northerners? Northern Region? When would you move on from 1960s mindset?

  • excel

May God guide and lead you to take Nigeria to the greater place. Yes, PMB can.

  • Good one Mr. President. Well meaning Nigerians support the President in his plans to move Nigeria forward.
Nigeria is our nation, our only country for most of us. We are deeply interested in making this country work and our nation shall rise again, it’ll take time, this we know, but we shall rise again. Very tall and glorious shall we stand.
