The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has stated his commitment to the anti-graft war, declaring that he would be prepared to pay the supreme price if need be in the course of his work.

“I am not afraid of anything. I prefer to die fighting corruption if need be,” Mr. Magu told a group of senior lawyers in Lagos on Thursday.

The lawyers visited the EFCC boss to express their support for the fight against corruption.

Lately, the EFCC has lambasted lawyers and judges in the country, accusing them of helping looters of the nation’s treasury to escape justice and share in the proceeds of corruption.

Mr. Magu praised the visiting lawyers for the support, and expressed regret that some unpatriotic Nigerians including senior lawyers have joined forces “with fraudsters and those who looted our commonwealth by becoming coaches and technical advisers on how to escape justice”.

He admonished lawyers to allow the interest of Nigeria and good conscience to guide them when accepting briefs.

Earlier Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who led the group, said they were at the Commission to express support for the EFCC and the chairman for revamping the fight against corruption.

He said though lawyers have been accused of attempting to frustrate the work of the Commission, there were however good lawyers ready to support the EFCC in advancing the fight against corruption.

He urged the Commission to name and shame those who are frustrating the work rather than generalize the allegation.

“Let us name and shame corrupt judges and lawyers. The good ones are prepared to work with you,” he said. He warned lawyers who think they can intimidate the EFCC, that some of them are ready to support and defend the Commission.

Luke Aghanenu who also spoke at the event said the Commission should know that corruption will also fight back and the recent attack by some lawyers was a clear example. He said as long as the EFCC does it work rightly, people will always criticize the Commission.

Another lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, said the reason he was part of the solidarity visit, was his belief in the integrity of the EFCC chairman and his effort to revamp the fight against corruption.

He condemned the activities of some lawyers who were castigating the EFCC as pure criminality and urged them not to hide under the cover of lawyer- client confidentiality to become accomplices to mega graft.

He assured the EFCC chairman that, they will continue to support the EFCC as long as it remains truthful and faithful to its mandate.

Jonathan’s ADC Never Made The Statement Accredited Him By The Presidency, Demands Retraction And Apology

Yet another lie from the pit of hell peddled by the presidential handlers and APC gets busted.

As reactions continue to trail a recent statement attributed to Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, former aide-de-camp to immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan, the military personnel has debunked ever threatening to open a can-of-worm about his erstwhile principal.

Col. Adegbe, while expressing shocks and disbelief over the recent viral report, which quoted him as saying that if he was forced to reveal what transpired under the last administration, Nigeria will boil, had demanded an unreserved apologia from the management of the Sun Publishing Limited for dragging his hard-earned name to the mud.

He said his recent visit to the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was never in connection with the controversial arms scandal.

Reacting to the report, the military official in a letter by his solicitor, Chief Ogwu Onoja, SAN, and exclusively obtained by DAILY POST, denied ever making such controversial statement against his former boss during his interrogation at the EFCC office.

According the letter, “We have read with shock and disbelief the lead story in your newspaper, dated Friday 12th February, 2016, titled: “If I open up, Nigeria will burn. Detained Jonathan’s ex-ADC warns, as EFCC declares Tompolo wanted” .

The lawyer, while describing the report as false, misleading and defamatory, said it had caused significant harm to his client’s good name and reputation.

He said, “we have examined the full story contained on page 7 of the paper and the different statements credited to him and compared them with provable facts. This comparison shows without any doubt whatsoever that, among others, the following of your statements about what transpired are false:

      a. You stated that Col. Adegbe was credited to have said: “If I open up, Nigeria will burn.”

      b. You stated that: “the economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC) picked up Adegbe on Wednesday in Lagos where he was interrogated before he was flown to Abuja yesterday.”

I will engage you in a robust debate if those arrested or mentioned so far are innocent. It is not a matter of those not mentioned or arrested yet.

Would it have been better if Buhari decided to hear no evil and see no evil? Each man will answer to his name at the right time.

The anti-corruption campaign is a bloodless revolution that many are not able to perceive. History will be the best judge of Buhari’s second coming.

Muhammadu Buhari planned and executed the kidnapping of Umaru Dikko in 1984, had him tied up and holed up in the crate below.

Now, fellow Nigerians, is this not criminal enough for Nigerians not be welcomed in the United Kingdom?

  • OLODONOMICS De Clueless

Is the refusal of DSS and SSS to arrest Ibrahim Babangida, Abubakar Abdulsalami , Obasanjo etc not corruption? In Nigeria, corruption and all other crimes are defined based of the ethnicity of the person who committed the crimes. This is why Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami, Obasanjo & Co are FREE and living in billion dollar mansions and you are busy issuing arrest warrant for General Tompolo. “You are ready to die” ….We believe you bcos every Northerner is actually a potential suicide bomber. Kill and bomb others to death just becos you want a Northerner in presidency, brain or no brain. Wasc or no Wasc. Now we even hear that Duncee is blaming Dr Jonathan as the reason he failed Waec in 1959 before Jonathan was born. What a clueless one. Rubbish!

    EDITOR SIR,

    Sanctions for the 93 S.A.N

Why is it that Nigerians only show outrage that 93 so-called S.A.N lawyers
defied the society’s protocols by marching for corruption on the streets –
without matching that outrage with immediate sanctions? Let the word go forth
right now that each of those lawyers shall henceforth become un-appointable as
attorney-general of any state or the federal government because each lawyer had
a choice to either march in support of EFCC against corruption, or, to march in
support of Ricky Tarfa’s indictment showing physical evidence of cash payment
to Justice Yusufu in a live case. Each of these lawyers has shown his personal
immorality in public and shown his wretched ideological vacuity as unfit for
any public office in any position, besides that of attorney-general.

U are sick period—Every Nigerian has the right to defend—himself or herself b4 any court of law—via lawyers registered with the NBA—and not for some thieves in Efcc, attempt deceive us with their lies–such as the case of the ADC to Jonathan being locked up————————-in the Gulag of Buhari———————Take for example the Halliburton case—-The lawyers were paid legal fees—Now u have a man attempt to trick Nigerians into believing that some group of lawyers, stole the nation blind–via the matter—–Whereas the entire issue was about lawyers charging legal fees for their work over the settlement of the fine Nigeria imposed on Halliburton via Dick Cheney–Why is this man lying about-almost everything—-If he wants to fight corruption, let him start with Amaechi then we know he is serious. Until then, he should just keep quiet–and stop—-trying to twist facts into fiction for us–Just go about his job quietyl and stop using the media to raise false alarm–The samething he did under Obj ati Ribadu

      • Esquire2000

        Burning Spear:.

Allow me to chip in my own opinion. You raise interesting point on legal representation. But do you
know that under the RULES OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT governing lawyers there’s no duty of
any sort on any lawyer to represent an accused criminal where the charges alleged are so gross,
so plain, so noxious and so threatening to the legal profession itself, as in Tarfa’s case?

Let me illustrate the point. If a lawyer in a courtroom feels angry at a ruling and moves furiously to
deal deadly blows on a sitting Judge, set the Judge bleeding and then into coma, after 55 blows to
the head. If thereafter the angry lawyer tears the robe of the Judge, removes the Judge’s pants,
and carries him into the open space to expose the Judge’s nudity to passers-by, which lawyer
in Nigeria is under an ethical or professional obligation to defend the lawyer assaulting a Judge?

None! So you can see why each of these 93 lawyers must be sanctioned by society through
the National Assembly forbidding any of them from ever holding public office. That’s the same
reason all Houses of Assembly in the 36 states need the list of these 93 lawyers for banning
from public office at state level, forever. That is how Nigeria will henceforth develop, morally.

i pity your thoughts–on this matter—which u raised—Even if the lawyer had pumped 50 bullets into the mouth of the trial judge—the said lawyer is still entitled to a lawyer because he cannot represent himself in court—Government is even supposed to provide him wirth a lawyer-Madu is just behaving like a bush man–a hard core mumu–

The immediate past Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi stole $757 million, reliable sources at the Government House told our reporter in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, south-south Nigeria.

It would be recalled prior to the general elections in Nigeria, Mr. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi had issues and a running battle with the former Nigerian First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, that snowballed into a full-blown quarrel. This precipitated a political crisis in the state that led to his defection from the then ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP).

Rotimi Amaechi, our source revealed, had no option but to align himself with those opposed to Dr. Jonathan presidency. His fear was that should Jonathan, by chance, be re-elected as president of Nigeria he would suffer a great persecution which, our sources say, is unlike the courteous and gentlemanly nature of the former Nigerian leader to seek revenge or respond to every injustice done to him.

Findings from our investigative reports revealed that Rotimi dug deep into Rivers State coffers and doled out piecemeal a whopping $757 million part of which was used to fund Buhari’s campaign and every hue and cry that has been raised so far to have Rotimi Amaechi investigated in spite of the glaring evidence against him tendered by the Rivers State Government has fallen on deaf ears.

Our efforts to reach the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the (EFCC) Nigeria’s anti-graft body did not yield any result as calls put through to their office for inquiry and clarification on this very sensitive matter were rebuffed in no uncertain terms.

Irked by this frustration at every turn to get Rotimi Amaechi refund this ill-gotten gains, some non-governmental organizations, (NGOs) have resolved to retain the services of foreign prosecutors by dragging Amaechi to the International Criminal Court, (ICC) or ECOWAS Court in the West African sub-region to prevail on him and his accomplices to return the looted funds belonging to the people and government of Rivers State, DailyGlobeWatch was reliably told.

Mr. Magu, you will not die fighting this noble war on behalf of the millions of oppressed Nigerians. Those who will die are the corrupt who have stolen from the nation, the irresponsible lawyers and SANs that partake in the loot by defending the corrupt and corruption itself. By God grace you will leave to be awarded a national honour for this fight by the people of Nigeria.
