Fresh explosion kills many in Maiduguri mosque

At least 20 persons were killed in a fresh explosion in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Monday morning, as residents gathered around a mosque in Buraburin, behind the Federal High Court in the city.

The explosion sounded as residents speculated that a fleeing Boko Haram bomber abandoned an improvised explosive device in the area during Sunday night’s attack on the city.

A police officer, who informed PREMIUM TIMES of the incident, said the victims had gathered to investigate if a bomb was truly abandoned in the mosque.

“I have never seen such foolishness when people would go peeping into a mosque to find out if truly there was an explosive deposited in a place. But sadly, the bomb went off and over 20 persons were killed and many injured.”

But the account of Malam Suleiman, a primary school teacher in the area, was slightly different.

“The people normally sit down around the mosque in the morning,” he said. ”The place is like a meeting point where neighbours converge to relax.”

“After the morning prayers they just sat down outside the mosque as usual and then the bomb went off. It was not suicide bombing like that of last night. It may have been planted.

“Many people died but I can’t give actual figure of the casualties”.

Boko Haram proves President Buhari wrong

Both President Buhari and Alhaji Lai Muhammed are falsified by this attack in Maiduguri.
They both said Boko Haram has been so defeated it can only place improvised explosive
device by the roadside. But that’s not what’s going on now. What’s been reported here is a
coordinated fighting unit of Boko Haram infantry driving in a military convoy into Maiduguri –
precisely what President Buhari said on Dec 24th has been rendered impossible. Boko Haram
militiamen not only drove into the city they dug in for pitched infantry battle with Nigerian army.
In military terms, that’s not a defeated militia by any means, especially given that Maiduguri is
the Nigerian army’s command and control centre in the fight against Boko Haram, according to
President Buhari’s deployments of army formations in June. Now, Buhari has to explain this.

    • Ade

Congrats Mr terror. Your boys are working.

  • Ashibogu

They should stop going to mosques if their safety cannot be guaranteed. Can’t they pray in their respective houses?

    • Tolu

Are you saying sai Baba and APC CANNOT GUARANTEE THEIR SAFETY??
      WOW! CONFESSIONS GALORE!

  • Holyman

IF PREMIUM TIMES PEOPLE ARE NOT MUJAHEDEENS, HOW COME THEY ARE ALWAYS THE FIRST TO KNOW
AND TO REPORT TO NIGERIANS WHERE BOKO HARAM HAS ATTACKED AND THE CASUALTIES RECORDED?

Curiously though all we get from the APC regime is SILENCE. Not a word from Mr President, Osinbajo, Adesina, garba shehu, Sani shehu, Oyegun, Lai Moh’d, oshiomhole, etc etc.
At best, Adesina will say it is a ‘military affair’.

    • Otile

It is a pity all these wackos are Muslims pretending to be Christians. Whenever people suffer massacres or horrible attacks from their fellow Muslims they play dead. You will not hear from them again until somebody writes something about Biafra.

  • femi alasoadura

PMB shouldn’t be distracted with Bokoharam issue. It can’t be contained over night. Keep trying victory is sure. Nowhere in the world has terrorist activities completely eliminated. To uproot them –
    – we need a stable power supply.
    – put in place surveillance cameras in most densely populated areas of Nigeria.
    – more people should be recruited into army/police/other security agencies.
    – Nigerians should inform security with adequate information about suspicious activities around them.
    – Gvt should concentrate on technical way of addressing the subject of security. No magic can stop it. Stop giving dead line this can’t be predicted.
To achieve this through the above mentioned approaches, more money is required. GEJ has empty govt pause so Nigerians need to be patient with PMB. We should be constructive as we advice govt with our ideas that can bring progress to Nigeria.

    • takethetrain

“more people needed” hahha. what is the ratio now?? perhaps it’s not more people you need, but competent people?

  • Kickboxer

LYING MOHAMMED IS A LIVING PROOF THAT THE WORD MOHAMMED EQUALS LIE. BRAINLESS MUHAMMADU BUHARI LIES & NIGERIANS IN TH NORTH EAST AE BEING KILLED WITHOUT RECOURSE.

SHOW ME A MOHAMMED WHO DOES NOT LIE AND I SHOW YOU A WOMAN WHO DOES NOT OVULATE

    • takethetrain

the brainless one seems to be frustrating you, but you go own worshiping your brainless bill, and we’ll continue on with what needs to be done.

  • Otile

I hate when the military test weapons near peoples’ neighborhoods, see the havoc weapon testing caused in Madintul Islam and Adamawa provinces. Soon PDP will blame the explosions on Boko Haram forgetting that under the leadership of Imam Mohamed Buhari our gallant troops have defeated Boko Haram. Things are getting better.

  • onyema22ohaka

This news and deaths it carries is not necessary as bokoharam has been decimated and and degraded. They can conveniently carry on killing.
