Buhari secures U.S., others’ support to recover billions stolen from Nigeria

Buhari in office 2

President Muhammadu Buhari said Tuesday in Abuja that his administration has received firm assurances of cooperation from the United States and other countries on the recovery and repatriation of funds stolen from Nigeria.

Speaking at an audience with members of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Abubakar, President Buhari said it was now up to Nigeria to provide the international community with the facts and figures needed to drive the recovery effort.

“In the next three months, our administration will be busy getting those facts and the figures to help us recover our stolen funds in foreign countries,” the president told the traditional rulers.

Citing the report submitted by the Ahmed Joda-led transition committee, President Buhari said that several revenue-generating institutions in the country have been compromised leading to a weak economy.

At an earlier meeting with governors on Tuesday, President Buhari had assured that his government will recover billions of dollars in the next three months.

He vowed to ensure monies stolen by past officials were returned. He also warned the governors that the era of impunity and brazen theft of public funds was over.

On insecurity, the president said traditional rulers could play a key role in stemming terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria by assisting the government with cost-effective intelligence gathering.

President Buhari also assured the traditional rulers that his administration was working hard to end insecurity and terrorism in the country in the shortest possible time with the cooperation of neighbouring countries and the international community.

Acknowledging that Nigerians expected a lot from his administration, the president appealed for patience and understanding while his government works diligently to speedily overcome the huge national challenges it inherited.

The sultan, Abubakar, had earlier presented the Northern Traditional Rulers’ recommendations to the president on issues related to national development.

The Sultan told the president that as custodians of tradition and stakeholders in the Nigerian project, the traditional rulers had a responsibility to always advise political leaders on the “path of truth and justice”.

“We have always advised our leaders, but their acceptance of our advice is their own prerogative,” the Sultan said.

The traditional rulers assured the president of their unflinching support for his administration’s efforts to fulfil its promises to Nigerians.

IS IT TRUE THAT BUHARI HAS TODAY REVERSED HIMSELF ON THE ORDER DISMANTLING
MILITARY CHECKPOINTS; AFTER HE WAS TOLD BY THE NORTHERN GOVERNORS THAT
THE ORDER HE GAVE YESTERDAY SERVES NO USEFUL PURPOSE? IF IT IS TRUE, THEN,

Muhammadu Buhari: So far; well, not so good

Buhari’s anti-corruption policy is more verbal than felt. Buhari says he will recover most of
the officially “stolen billions of dollars”. That’s a great plan. But the acid test is not the plan.
It is the awaited naming of his cabinet members. Were he to name a slew of notorious thieves
as Ministers, the Buhari prospective anti-corruption war will come to a halt right then.

In judging, the public won’t look at the EFCC as the acceptable measure
for deciding “past corrupt officials” because that phrase itself means
all previously elected or appointed state, local and federal government
officials – including his own party members in the APC who’d held public office.
More complicated is the litmus test. Once he appoints anyone Buhari shall be
understood as saying that the person so-named is his model of honesty and integrity.

Should EFCC later offer contrary evidence,
President Buhari might himself be put to shame for bad judgment or for abetting thefts.
If Buhari chooses, say, Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Raji Babatunde Fashola as Minister, the Buhari
government could lose credibility at once. Both men represent just two of the throng of crooks
whom the EFCC has not asked a single question. The EFCC’s default on similar delinquents
cannot be converted into a declaration acquittal of similar persons who cannot explain the
whereabouts of state money entrusted to them in billions and billions of Naira.

“A day after ordering the dismantling of military checkpoints nationwide, President

It is flip-flop in Nigeria at the moment; and, it’s not amusing to those of us looking in.

Agree with your position on this. For our common good as a nation, we should all lend Buhari our encouragement to keep moving. This is the fist in almost thirty years that we have someone talking about accountability. Buhari is our last hope at this critical moment. Remove Buhari and the country will disintegrate in two or three years. We should ask Buhari to return our original national anthem, regardless of who wrote it: “Though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand.”.

Who be teacher, I go let you now…..You see people, When Buhari became President, he had to go and and collect his script on how to run Nigeria from his bosses at the G7. Before Oyinbo left us during independence, they gave us a script of governance, a corrupt script which they use themselves to enslave their own people. Most of our military boys were trained in Sandhurst and each of them have ruled turn by turn as Fela would say, courtesy of Oyinbo blessing. Oyinbo gives us IMF loan, state that we cannot build infrastructure with it, connive with our leaders to transfer such monies back to Oyinbo through Swiss accounts. Hmmmmm. Who is fooling who? Dem dey call us Non-Alligned Nations according to Fela. So they are alligned, straightened? We are crooked, not straight? So you see, for Buhari to probe corruption, he has to start with Oyinbo who caused it in the first place and he can’t. Dem don tell am wet in he go do from him meeting with dem. wake up people.

Never pour the old wine of APC corrupt officials into CHANGE’S wineskin..it is toxic to do.
CHANGE does not mean party loyalty – which itself means organised crime, in Nigeria’s clime.

Bola Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi, Raji Fashola are some detritus against whom CHANGE is needed.

NIGERIA ELECTED THE GODFATHER OF CORRUPTION: CLOWN BUHARI

Clown Buhari is the godfather of CORRUPTION in Nigeria.

Only DUMBOS know what Clown Buhari represents and still tag him an anti-corruption agent.

For the records, Clown Buhari was one of 12 men who HACKED Nigeria’s political structure to skew it for Fulanis.

Clown Buhari seized government to stop the probe of missing $2.8 billion when he was petroleum minister in 1970s.

Clown Buhari served under Abacha, arguably, the most corrupt of all.

Clown Buhari supported directly or indirectly the activity of Sharia by which non-Muslims are harassed, maimed and killed in northern Nigeria.

Were it not for the Clown Buhari’s people’s SLAVES, YORUBAS, no sane Nigerian would ever vote GODFATHER OF CORRUPTION and expect him to stop corruption..

TEST OF CLOWN Buhari’s Anti-Corruption Claims:

    1. If Clown Buhari wants to prove he is an anti-corruption, let Clown Buhari implement the National Conference resolutions or convoke a new one to enable Nigerians determine how hey want to b governed.

    2. If Clown Buhari is not for corruption, let Clown Buhari probe the missing $2.8 billion, Babangida, Obasanjo, Abdusalammi, & Jonathan

signed it into……or waived it into the pocket of Jide Omokore…..the important thing
is that this is money pocketed in violation of the laws of Nigeria.

    ……And this is money
that should be standing in the Federation Account for all the 178 million Nigerians.
If only two persons are allowed to pocket 11% of Nigeria’s annual budget, what hope
is left for the people of such a country? All Nigerians must demand that this whole
$4.5 billion be recovered from both Jide Omokore and Jonathan….both of whom
must then be arrested to answer charges for stealing and sabotage.

America does know very well. When Hilary Clinton was Secretary of State, the State Department ordered all U.S. banks to report every significant bank deposit by individuals not permanently resident in the United States. So they have a list of names, bank account numbers, and amounts. That’s why they call Nigerians ‘bunch of thieves and scammers’. Bear in mind that even the little transfers of a few thousand dollars for the importation of Tokumbo used cars is also illegal, since it is technically money laundering. So virtually all Nigerians are guilty, but they are not going to go after accounts less than 1 million dollars.

EMPTY TREASURY: Buhari Stop Misleading Nigerians: Jonathan Left Over $30Billion – Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman.

**$600,000,000 have been spent from our Reserve within one week by Buhari’s Govt.
**Buhari bought customised S600 Maybach Mercedes official car valued about N500,000,000, and other cars in that range.
**APC Transition Committee members stays in Transcorp Hotel at N500,000 and N350,000 a night, but Jonathan advised his own Team to be coming from their Abuja homes to save cost.

Nigerian were horrified by President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent claims of inheriting an empty treasury, from the Jonathan’s administration after they have initially acknowledged a balance of over $30Billion.

Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, a former Minister and Deputy Chairman National Planning Commission (NPC) in a statement, described the Buhari and APC’s statement as baseless report as “unscientific and unfair”, stressing that the immediate past administration “left behind close to US$30billion.”

Dr. Sulaiman added that, “Buhari’s Government can’t tell us that there is no Excess Crude Account(ECA), Sovereign Wealth Fund(SWF) or In addition to the above $30billion, are they saying the Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIR) and related agencies had not in the last one month been generating revenue?
“Until they are able to prove they had no receipts from these government agencies in the last one month, Nigerians can’t buy into Mr. President’s claims of an empty treasury.”

Its is on record that President Obama inherited US$3 trillion debt, a collapsed banking sector and mortgage industry, yet he never raised any alarm. None of these has happened in Nigeria under Jonathan.

It will be misleading therefore for our respected President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed the ruling APC to claim to have met an empty treasury.”

He further reminded the new government that “aspiration to governance is a call of meeting and confronting challenges headlong. So, we urge the APC-led government to hit the ground running as promised Nigerians by confronting the challenges.

He warned that the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must not be criminalized and painted a plunderer and looter of the nation’s treasury before the generality of Nigerians, while they man was described in some quarters are tight hand when it comes to spending government money.

In the last one week, Nigeria Reserve left by Jonathan have been reduced by $600,000,000 by the new government yet they met empty Treasure. Buhari bought his customised S600 Maybach Mercedes official car valued about N500,000,000, and other cars in that range, yet he met empty Treasury.
Buhari is paying for his numerous foreign trips alongside large entourage, and threwing lavish party for APC supporters in the villa and Transcorp Hotel, running into billions, forgetting that millions of Nigerians workers have not received their wages, yet he met empty treasure.

All APC Transition Committee members are staying in Transcorp Hotel at the rate of N500,000 and N350,000 a night, but Jonathan advised his own committee members to be coming from their Abuja homes to save cost.

NIGERIANS MUST NOT BE TAKEN AS FOOLS BY BUHARI AND APC. THEY MUST FULFILL THE PROMISES MADE TO NIGERIANS.

Muhammadu Buhari, who served Abacha as Executive Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) has come under some embarrassment over his comments in 2008 that Abacha never stole as new Abacha loot has been traced. Buhari, in 2007, described the allegations of looting against Abacha as “baseless”, because according to him, “ten years after Abacha, those allegations remain unproven because of lack of facts”. However, fresh facts emerged that the previous estimate of what Abacha stole which stood at $5 Billion may be wrong. A competent source close to the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), whose office is in the presidency told journalists that about four different meetings between the SIP team headed by a retired senior military officer and a Switzerland-based lawyer, Enrico Monfrini, hired by the Federal Government to assist in the recovery of the Abacha loot in foreign jurisdictions, had taken place outside the country in the last eight months. Monfrini is an Attorney-at-Law, Monfrini Grettol & Associés, Geneva, Switzerland. The source, who preferred to be anonymous because of the sensitive nature of the subject, said: “In the course of the recent meetings between the Nigerian team and authorities in about four other jurisdictions as well as the team from the foreign legal firm, it was discovered that a lot of underhand dealings must have taken place in the recovery of the Abacha loot. “This was largely responsible for the under-declaration of what has been recovered so far by three successive governments and worse still what is still trapped in offshore accounts.” Some of the foreign jurisdictions, where the stolen funds had been traced to include Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.—Buhari is a big 419ner–a fraud—–a complete thief who should be in jail

    • James Breen

My brother. I dont always agree with everything you say but I think there is justification in some of the things you say here. It appeared to be a known fact internationally that Abacha looted the government treasury. US and British newspapers openly printed such stories. If Jonathan has stolen money then he has to answer for it. But what makes me laugh is all the hypocritical people on these posts making out that Jonathan is the only Nigerian that has embezzled the government. Corruption in Nigeria was prevalent for decades. Why did Nigeria attempt to bring back Umaru Dikko from London in April 1984 under clandestine means ? What about all the Nigerian state governors who have been caught in the UK with stolen money ?

Hog wash>Does that include Obasanjo,Amechi,Atiku ,to name a few? By the way, who in America is giving him this promise? It is not to the public knowledge that Buhari has had any formal contact with the American government talk less of all these heaven and earth that we are being fed about Americas commitment. If those people that work in the American embassy in Nigeria is feeding them this false hope, then Buhari and his team are clueless. Tinubu when he was in Chicago had drug issues and forfeited millions of dollars .He is still roaming free in Nigeria and comes to America at will.
