Why I directed PDP Ward Leader to tear my membership card – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

As criticisms and commendations continue to trail his dramatic exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has explained how he arrived at the decision to dump the party to which he belonged for 16 years.

The former president had Monday announced his resignation as a member of the party on whose platform he ruled the country between 1999 and 2007.

Mr. Obasanjo renounced his membership of the PDP when some leaders of the party led by Surajudeen Oladunjoye, the chairman of the ward around his former residence in Ita Eko, visited him at his Presidential Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta home.

The former president directed Mr. Oladunjoye to tear his membership card at a press conference organised during the visit.

About two hours later, the PDP leadership in Ogun State announced the expulsion of the former president from the party.

However, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday, Mr. Obasanjo explained that the PDP members visited him to express their genuine concern about his refusal to be active in the party.

“They were concerned that I had only one leg in the party, and worried that since I’m their leader in the ward, they need to hear from me,” the former President said.

According to him, when the party members arrived his residence, they were singing a song in Yoruba language – “Nigeria yi ti gbobgo wa ni, Ko ma gbodo ba je. Eje ka sowopo kajo gbega (Meaning – Nigeria belongs to all of us, we must not allow it to be destroyed and we must join hands to make it great).

Mr. Obasanjo said when they settled down he sought to know why they came and that it was at that point that Mr. Oladunjoye told him that since he (Obasanjo) as their leader became angry with the PDP and remained inactive in the party, they had not only lost sense of direction but also worried about their political future.

He also said the party members informed him that the leadership in the state was planning to expel him and that they wondered what would happen to them if he was expelled because they would become rudderless.

“You are our leader and it is you we are following. You have remained a card-carrying member of the the party. But since you became angry with the party we have lost sense of direction and now we are hearing that they want to expel you. If they expel you, where do we go? What do we do?” Mr. Obasanjo quoted the ward chairman as saying.

The former president explained that it was at that point that he gave them his PDP membership card and told them that they could do whatever they want with it.

He said, “In my response, I said when you people came you were singing a song and I agreed that Nigeria is our own. If the issue is the party, I will not choose the party at the detriment of Nigeria and I will fight for Nigeria even at the detriment of the party. I will rather surrender my membership of the party so you people can move on politically,” Mr. Obasanjo explained to PREMIUM TIMES.

“If you people’s worry is that I’m a card-carrying member of the party and I’m not showing you people direction and you are worried that I’m neither here nor there, this is the card; you can keep it, you can burn it or you can tear it, do whatever you want to do with it.”

The former president said he then handed over his membership card to Mr. Oladunjoye, who immediately decided on his own to shred it.

Mr. Obasanjo said he had no regrets for his action despite the criticisms that have greeted it.

  • Eniola Adeola

Obasanjo, you are still lying at your age, wow.

    • larry

OBJ IS PLAYING A GAME , I AM LOVING IT

      • NinjaK

Hmnn…..the same kinda game that took him to prison not so long ago…….!
Pray, why cant this man just sit down somewhere and make himself respectable?
Why must he talk about everything, know everything, get involved with everything?
What else does he want? He has been President on 3 occassions yet he could not solve anything.
He repaid a whole $18billion debt in cash at a go and left $35billion in excess crude acct – good, BUT IN A COUNTRY THAT ITS CITIZENS ARE STILL DYING OF CHOLERA, POLIO, TUBERCULOSIS (i.e. diseases completely eradicated 100 years ago in serious countries) ET AL, DOES NOT HAVE FUNCTIONAL RAIL, FUNCTIONAL POWER, FUNCTIONAL HEALTHCARE DELIVERY SYSTEM, GOOD DRINKABLE WATER, etc etc. If the USA is the richest country in the World, and also the biggest debtor, then there much be a reason America chose not to pay its debts. And my guess is that the welfare and life improvement of its citizens always come first!

I am now beginning to warm up to the idea that this man is now a nuisance and has sincerely become the problem of nigeria!

        • Emmy

America chose not to pay it’s debt because it is developed. It has more than enough infrastructures to cushion the effect of its debt. Debt is not a bad thing if the purpose for its acquisition is to invest in developmental project of which its turn-over will carter for the interest bn accrued by the debt. Exactly the reason why banks are still begging the Dangote of this world to come for more facilities and why their accounts are perpetually in debit while they borrow your savings to run their businesses. In the case of Nigeria, the money borrowed was either spent on liabilities or siphoned for self enrichment. Since it was not spent of any developmental projects, over the years, its interest had started eating into the country revenue and adversely affecting growth and development. Hence, something had to be done about it. Part was paid off while the rest was forgiven. At this point you’ll think that our so call leaders will turn anew leaf and adhere to the simple borrow to get rich principle. But it is as if they’ve bn cursed not to do the right thing or how do one explain the justification for the new debt accrued by this Government with no commensurate infrastructure on ground. Abeg, make I leave economics for those that knows about it.

          • NinjaK

I disagree with you that GEJ administration has accrued major new debts. What happened is that OBJ paid off external debts and never paid a dime of internal debts. These internal debts keeps balooning over the years but then so many times the govt of the day uses these debts to curb inflation by keeping it as a going concern. You need to know that the govt debt is an industry on its own – so when you hear about kakawa or other discount houses, they are all busy trading in nigeria’s internal debts (i.e. treasury bills, sovereign bonds, notes, etc). Our external debt under GEJ is still very, very low.
A very senior banker friend in Lagos once told me that he is more at ease lending N20billion to Dangote or Lafarge or Nestle or Cadbury (i.e. so-called blue chips) rather than lend to 500 “Emeka Nig Ltd, Muraina Nig Ltd, Bala Nig Ltd, etc. he says he gets to sleep well and enjoy his family life rather than keep running after 500 potential “banking miscreants” who are always full of one excuse or the other on daily basis….
I guess thats why we are 3rd world…..lol

    • musa aliyu

      Tell us the truth, then!

  • Eniola Adeola

Why are you now regretting your action and looking for a way out of your messed up situation.

    • Maria

“Mr. Obasanjo said he had no regrets for his action despite the criticisms that have greeted it.” Illiteracy is worrying you. “Na only you waka cum”!

  • Diplomacy at its uppermost.

  • Osebe

Obasanjo is a frustrated dog.He has been frustrated to the point of behaving in an animalistic way. I am happy the old people are beginning to leave us alone. He should just keep quiet and not meddle into politics like other ex-presidents do.How often do u hear Bush or Clinton heat up America with provocative comments? His action was distasteful yo say the least.

    • Truth Hurts

You are calling your grand father a “a frustrated dog”. Shame on you!!!
This is why these old men don’t see anything good in the youths. If someone as young as you cannot articulate a common response to a news item like this, then I can understand why Obasanjo is frustrated in the PDP led by a younger and supposedly vibrant man. Shame on you once again.

      • emmanuel

Old people do not sleep with their son’s wife at over seventy years, abuse their leaders anyhow or engage in fit of anger in public.

Obasanjo is not an old person, but an old animal.

        • truth is bitter

Where is the evidence. Produce evidence and stop talking nonsense. Omo ale jatijati

          • NinjaK

which evidence? na you wan know pass the son that made the allegation??
            craptalk!

        • Bishop

Are you sure he slept with her? Emmanuel,if you know what your name means, please respect it. It’s very clear in the bible that you MUST respect the elderly. Many verses are there but check 1Tim 5:1. Don’t get carried away by politics,we wil return to God and give account. 1 luv bro!

        • Jika

It takes an animal to know an animal!!!!!!!

      • NinjaK

But what do you actually call a grandfather when HE IS ACTUALLY ACTING LIKE A FRUSTRATED DOG?
If the old men dont see anything good in the youths….do you think the youths equally see anything in these old men?? Afterall, these old men all came into Govt prominence at ages 26-30 decades ago, and they are still there 50yrs after, still struggling for power or to be around power,…..fuck the old men!!!

      • NinjaK

This mentality of worshipping/begging elders is what has been killing Africa. And these old men created all these problems for us in the 1st instance, and we keep thinking they are also the ones to solve our issues (like some funny people keep endorsing Buhari at 74yrs of age!). In Africa, we see old men behaving like thugs & rascals, but we are told not to talk to them or abuse them – if these is the attitude in the developed countries do you think they would be where they are today?

  • MushinSpeaks

Obasanjo remains a true here; this is a man that has put his life in line for the unity of this country and those reaping from what he sowed were in their diapers when he was in service and defying all odds to ensure unity remains constant.

    • taiwo

YEAH BY SLEEPING WITH HIS IST SON’S WIFE.I HEAR YOU

      • musa aliyu

Yes and saying that stealing is not corruption, and shielding oil thieves, which he is amingst, and telling us that there is subsidy in in kerosine when we buy it at 140 naira, by mismanaging our electrical funds and selling the conpanies to himself and his cronies, and by bribing judges to disqualify Buhari, and by using soldiers as accomplices to truncate our democracy. Chai! This Obssanjo!

Is he denying that he ordered the man to tear it? OBJism is at it again.

  • djay

Baba you should not give a damn as you owe no won apology.

  • taiwo

He is now subtly trying to pass the blame for tearing the card to the ward chairman in other to destroy that one’s life too,the old hag is not yet tired of ruining lives

    • Sadiq Garba

Did he not say it that “if you like tear it, burn it or do whatever you want with it”? Do not push meaning to OBJ’s statement. He has left the party, he has. He tears the card and so what? He has denounce his association with the current set of leaders, and that’s all.

      • taiwo

        story for the gods

  • El Farigo

Yaa, yaa si wewe (tear it, tear it into prices) was what I heard on TV before the chairman went to work with gusto.
OBJ may not be lying knowingly, judging by his age, it may be a case of amnesia.

    • funso

      So?

  • emmanuel

Obasanjo the official representative of the Devil in Nigeria.

    • Maria

No wonder he imposed an evil man called Jonathan fraudulently on Nigerians.

      • musa aliyu

Maria, you a Daniel that come to judgement. Have a wonderful day.

      • emmanuel

Jonathan is the best president Nigeria has ever had to date.

People are not bad by the name jealous people call them.

If Jonathan were evil, the DSS would have chased you for this comment. His spirit has forced an end to politically motivated killings –

        • Maria

How come that it was the official representative of the devil in Nigeria that installed him?

          • ceweeco projects

Don’t worry your ugliness is not contagious. Last time we checked we didn’t ask for your opinion.

          • Maria

Really, and what are you doing in the public domain with your useless opinion?

        • Sadiq Garba

Is that what the DSS reduced itself.

        • Smooth E

Jonathan is too good to be President of Nigeria. Go and try Kenyan or some other country presidents. They will just lock you up without waste of time.

      • ceweeco projects

What a shame…looks like the ugly fairy APC kissed you on both cheeks.

    • man

No wonder he brought a devil, witch and a thief to power. Jonathan is a waste in this country and people will not realize what he has done until he leaves Aso villa.

  • burning spear

LOOK AT THE VERY CHILDISH RESPONSE FROM THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIA–SOUNDING VERY PETTY-THERE ARE NO ATTRIBUTES OF A STATESMAN IN THIS OBJ-AT ALL…………..HE IS JUST AN OPPORTUNIST—–U CLAIM TO LOVE YOUR COUNTRY MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE AND U ARE TEARING THE CARD OF THE PARTY THAT BROUGHT U TO POWER—————-YET U SAY U LOVE NIGERIA—HOW—-WHAT MESSAGE IS HE SENDING TO THE YOUTHS OF THE COUNTRY—-WITH HIS UNPATRIOTIC ACTS—–?–ITS ONLY THOSE WHO WANT TO DESTROY NIGERIA THAT WILL ALIGN WITH SUCH A MAN

    • musa aliyu

Just like it is only those who want broad daylight robbery, lies that will support your mentor, Jonathan.

    • ceweeco projects

OBJ and APC is depression and also darkness filling the heart, surrounding the soul. Making everything takes so much energy. People around don’t understand, you’re doing the best you can Responsibilities overwhelm, expectations you can’t meet weigh heavily, Sorrow fills you until there is no room for anything else. Strength to fight, to find joy and love, slowly seeps from your soul. Endless days without hope loom before you, enveloping you in the darkness. This exactly what you get when you are in APC!!!! What else do you expect from an expired drug? NIGERIANS REJECTS THIS BAD RUBBISH!!!!!!

    • paulo

You are funny, must you belong to a political party b4 you start loving ur country. Obasanjo decided what’s ok for him by quitting when Gej has derailed. The economy is in shambles, the level of corruption is at alarming rate.

      • burning spear

During an exclusive interview with SaharaTV’sRudolf Okonkwo on March 10, Nigerian historian Dr. Sule Bello said Olusegun Obasanjo is not only the most corrupt leader in Nigeria, but the “most corrupt on Earth.”

The history professor at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria expressed disdain about what he perceives as an excessive amount of influence that Obasanjo has over President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I see somebody who is trying to do good for his country but does not seem to have gotten out of the clutch of people who are interested in their own immediate thing [gain] like Obasanjo….” stated Bello in a critical assessment of the overall performance of President Jonathan.

Maybe u like Obj has erasable memory in your skull———yes the fulanis said they will not support Jonathan because of the over bearing influence of obj–on him——————–today nko?

      • ama

So Paulo, you mean GEJ has not done anything good? Well I don’t know your level in economics I could have dragged you for a debate one on one in this platform. I don’t know how old you are and how much you of the past leaders of this country I would have ask you to tell me , which of them is corrupt free. OBJ was collecting #1 for every MTN card loaded before he could allow MTN company to operate in this country. Is this not corruption? When he was head of state he invoked the land used decree to amassed the land where his farm is presently without purchasing it or paying compensation to the owners, instead he locked some of them up for voicing out.Is this not corruption? Buhari for goodness sake does not need to come back to rule us again because if I tell you about Buhari you will hate any thing concerning him. Don’t just talk about the economy when you don’t have some parameters to drive your point home. GEJ is better than Buhari at least I can see fuel to buy without spending a day in fuel station which never was during the times of these your angel leaders. You will surely be the first to critisize Buhari when he starts his clannish and tyrannic rule. Well he will not even win.

        • TrueNja

Jonathan is PDP burden and a loser.

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

If you fail to understand the message in OBJ’s actions; let me reduce it down to one sentence for you – PRINCIPLES ARE ABOVE POLITICAL AND PERSONAL CONSIDERATIONS.

  • PATROTIC NIGERIAN WOMAN

Country people, please, permit me to say that If Femi Fani – Kayode’ analogy of OBJ , President JONATHAN’ and PDP is the case of King Saul and David is anything to go by
I strongly believe this is the case of King Saul and young
humble lad David and the Children of Israel!. But as the scripture says

by ‘Humility and the ‘fear of God’ are riches, honour and life,
No one is God’s mouth piece here. David was humble and God
fearing but despised by King Saul, who thought he was the master of the political game ,

King Saul thought he had it all and knew it all. But because of the humble and

God fearing David , God allowed King Saul to make a costly mistake that led to his doom.

King Saul’s continuous hatred for David led him to his waterloo. he lost it all, his throne, honour and family. Despite
King saul’s hatred for David, Jonathan his son did not support him against the Lord’s anointed – David, whom he
continually loved and respected. God works in mysterious ways; his ways are not
our ways and his thoughts are not our thoughts. God will decide Nigeria’s case
but one thing is clear, God hates violence and embraces peace. God hates the
proud but gives grace to the humble. He will decide Goodluck Jonathan’s case.
Just a David was on the field feeding his father’s flocks and unknown to him,
he was sought for kingship, God could do the same for President Goodluck
Jonathan’s case too, even if only one Nigerian supports him . And l know there
are more than one Nigerian supporting him. I join Goodluck to pray for the
peace and good of our beloved country Nigeria. One person is too small to hold
Nigeria to ransom. God will rescue us and grant us peace and victory come March
    28.. God Bless Nigeria!!!

    Obasanjo go and die.

  • Dazmillion

OBJ not so fast, When you manipulated your way to become Chairman BOT of PDP and was gallivanting around, saying PDP will rule for the next 60 years, you did not know that Nigeria was greater than your party? Now that they want to expel you, you start singing native song with some ogogoro drinkers and tearing piece of paper.

Unfortunately Mr Balogun of Owu, you cannot extricate yourself from the mess that is PDP ati Jonathan.

  • Baba Jada

OBJ doesn’t need to belong to any political party to be relevant. His role as an elder statesman is a big enough responsibility and should not be limited by partisanship. Since the PDP cannot accept internal party politics then OBJ is right to dump them.

    • ama

You mean dumping PDP to join APC where the rusticated PDP members are aggregated?. Was he a crusader of internal democracy during his time in PDP? Please make a research before coming to this platform.

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

What ‘research’ did you make before loosening the strings tied to your lips?

Where did you read that OBJ has joined APC?

Anybody who does not agree with the rubbish going on in the name of “government by PDP” is automatically APC; only for the intellectually lazy.

    GENERAL OBASANJO IS A LIAR

Nothing Obasanjo said here is true. The live recording by Channels television
falsifies his narrative. What happened is that Obasanjo gave his PDP card
to the PDP Ward Chairman with precise instruction in Yoruba that the Ward
Chairman should “tear the card to pieces!!” Why is he now telling lies
that he gave it to the Ward Chairman to “…keep it or do keep it or burn it
or tear it, or, do whatever you want to do with it.”
    This lies-telling is un-becoming.
It is a devious way of declining responsibility as if the Ward Chairman on his own
tore Obasanjo’s PDP card without having been instructed by Obasanjo to tear it.

    • Q & A

But why has this honest point NOT occurred to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,

since this whole thing is so suspicious to the rest of the world that since 1962,
Muhamadu Buhari has only used affidavits which NEVER explain the WAEC
certificate’s whereabouts. It is however a disqualifying offence under the law
to present a false declaration to INEC for an election. It is also a serious
criminal offence punishable by 14 years’ imprisonment to make a false
      declaration by affidavit.

    • Dammy

      @MediaWatch:

No need to rub it in. Obasanjo is re-explaining his show of craze out of regrets.
What Obasanjo should instead do is to write a polite appeal to Buruji Kashamu,
and beg for re-admission into the PDP. No need for all this long talk now, abi?

What he said with action carried out are in consonants because the card was shredded, the final objective. Yes President Obasanjo has joined the bandwagon of change, as simple as that and CHANGE! YES WE CAN.

  • favourtalk

Honestly, PDP Should forget about the next general election because they have failed totally and nothing can stop the change train. Obasanjo warned him several times but he listened not.

  • warry

May be it’s true that most Nigerians do not Know anything after all due to the low literacy level. How can a Buhari or Obj be a change where GEJ is performing? It is not a change but shame. The greatest manipulation, deceit,or lie in the history of Nigeria. I recall that when Obj was in power our democracy was called nascent. Real democracy, change and progress started in 2011 .Liars for whatever reasons should spare us the global embarrassment of having a senile imbecile as president I am pleading. Buhari does not know anything. He doesn’t know the name of his political party or INEC. Please I am begging those who are promoting ignorance as change or shame in the name of God to stop it.

But the masquerade could not control his dance in the public market. Hence he mistakenly flogged his own mother who is also a trader in the market. Nigerians, I am left with no option than to tell us that, these ex-generals and their boys are up to something.

The issue at hand is not all about the presidential seat. But rather, the national cake (oil blocks). Less I forget, is it not the same Obasanjo who woke up and hand picked his puppet 2011, who eventually grew like Joseph the messiah of Egypt?
**Is it not the same Obj that told us 2011, that General Buhari is too old to rule this country?
**Is it not the same Obj that told us Buhari is a dictator? Somebody should have a rethink like me.

We must understand the preacher’s language before decoding his message. If Obj can take a swift and prefer General Buhari to Jonathan, a puppet he dedicated his energy and resources to win 2011 election, then as an average Nigerian, we should have a rethink and ask our leaders what is so special in Aso Rock.

    • burning spear

If leadership is to serve the people, why is it that, the ex-generals finally gang up against their new recruit on account of change? If we’re to outline the sins of Mr.President, are the ex- generals not guilty of such sins? One may ask why is SPEAKER taking a swift? Everybody wants change. But I am astonished the way and manner these ex- general joined the train of change. Is it that, this is the first time they heard the word change? If NO, why did they not change this country when they were given opportunity?

**Why advocating for change now when the puppet body language shows he Will not renew their oil blocks licence?

**Why advocating for change now, when the puppet purchased equipment to monitor and reduce vandalism?

*Why advocating for change now, when the strong headed puppet wiped out their ghost names from the civil service payroll?

**Why advocating for change now, when the puppet sacked your boys as corrupt ministers?

**Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to dump Sambo for another puppet?

**Why advocating for change when he refused to kill Nigerians indiscriminately.

But rather he is exploiting all means of dialogue. Unlike your Odi brutal killings and destruction. Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to twist governors hands with EFCC to pave his way like you did?

Why advocating for change now, when at 72 years, you still tell your children of 50years they are the leaders of tomorrow?

Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to give you the fertilizer deal?

Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to jail your enemies?

Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to rig election for your daughter?

Why advocating for change now, when in your time railways were not working?

Why advocating for change, when in your time, our judiciary could not delivered a fair judgement in favour of oppositions?

Baba, Nigerians are fed up of you sitting in Otta, deciding their future. We want to decide our destiny with the help of God. We want to practice true democracy by using our votes to decide our future. Let the good works or antecedents of our leaders speak volume for them. Just after the presidential chat with Mr.President, we discovered that, you, your colleagues and errant boys, are spreading false informations to pave your way to aso rock.

Lastly, I challenge you Baba, ‪#‎Tinubu‬, ‪#‎Atiku‬ and others to tell Nigerians that you don’t have oil blocks or you Generals are not fighting the last battle to protect your oil blocks.

They won’t come out and speak my brothers and sisters. They want us to believe they are fighting for us. When they have their own local refineries at their backyards. R..I.P Fela: Animals wan dash me my human right. – Hope For Nigeria.

We BELIEVE IN GOODLUCK JONATHAN and supports his re-election Bid.

Goodluck Jonathan has turned to Badluck Jonathan to Nigerians therefore he doesn’t deserve another four more years.

JONATHAN IS ONE OF THE GREATEST LEADERS–TO WALK THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH IN NIGERIA—THEY HATE HIM BECAUSE AFTER HIS DEPARTURE THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO STEAL—–AGAIN

Address Jonathan’s failure!!! The issue here is not about retired soldiers. It’s not about Obasanjo as a person either! Rather, it’s about a man who been internationally-acclaimed as a monumental failure and corruption per excellence. So, stop chasing shadow and talk about the real issue.

Ulysses S. Grant was an American General. He was the commander that led the Union Armies to victory over the Confederacy in 1865 and later became one of the best performing Presidents of the United States from 1869 to 1877. My point is this: being a retired soldier is not something anybody should be using as a propagandist campaign strategy against Buhari or any other retired military officer aspiring to hold political office in Nigeria.

Ulysses Grant did not plot a coup. He won an election. He did not abuse human rights to the point that people began to pray. Mr. Grant who is honored with his portrait on the $50 bill did not ban political parties, detain innocent people and altogether forbid plans for a successive regime. General Buhari did these and worse. When he got the chance to launder his image in the Abacha regime, he did worse. He favoured the north with his projects, kept mum on the level of corruption in the regime and supported Abacha who killed Saro Wiwa and imprisoned Abiola. GMB is a tyrant through and through.

GEJ has performed credibly with new schools, better agric policy, better roads and a dwindling corruption profile. Where he’s not been successful is the battle on terror thus far. A vote for him is decent and in order. A vote for GMB is to validate all the injustice that GMB meted out to hapless Nigerians during his 20 months reign of evil. If Nigerians want change, they’d vote NCP. If they want stability and progress, they’d re-elect GEJ. A vote for GMB is an own goal.

      • Chukxharry

You’re not in touch with reality, to reckon among his portfolio of achievements that he has fought and reduced the monster “corruption”,which represents the core of the many woes of Nigeria today. Granted GEJ came to power with good intentions for Nigerians, but he put together the wrong team who derailed his ORIGINAL visions!Corruption is a deadly virus, you can’t maintain contact with the infected and avoid contamination. ‘Contact’ and contamination in this context are not mutually-exclusive events!

Busy now. But just a response. New schools? You mean the “glorified secondary schools” he established and called federal universities? When shall we stop deceiving ourselves in Nigeria? Instead of developing the existing, former universities to world-class standard, he went ahead to multiply without necessity, thereby turning them into “glorified secondary schools”. How many universities in Nigeria have libraries that are well stocked with books and can afford to lend up to 5 books to a student at a time. At the University of Glasgow in Scotland, for example, a student could borrow up to 40 books at a time. This a university of more than 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. So, imagine how a single student is still able to borrow up to 40 books at a time, if not because the library is adequately stocked. (Note: I’m telling you what I know and experienced personally, not hearsay.) To me, that’s what a university should, not establishing backyard classrooms and start calling them universities!

You said corruption is dwindling under Jonathan. Haba! I can see you’re living in another planet! If not, then you’re as corrupt as Jonathan himself. A sitting president who rationalised corruption vis-à-vis stealing publicly! May God rescue Nigeria from Jonathan and his corrupt co-travellers

Baboon OBJ you actually said in Yoruba: “E ba mi yaa welewele” (Tear it into shreds). Sane Nigerians have concluded that you are insane and do not want any explanation. You are a deranged animal that should be confined to a cage in a zoo.

The criticisms that have arisen over OBJ’s manner of exiting PDP border on hypocrisy and mutual individual guilt, between the critics and the source of OBJ’s anger. When a child has offended and his father chooses to discipline him in public, only the child’s partners in crime or strangers that are guilty of the same offense will accuse the father of being too harsh.

That is what is going on in this situation. Obasanjo has come out to publicly disown his political children. Unfortunately, these children are beyond the point of repentance and have gone rouge. Sinister people of same character will also take sides with them against their father.

If OBJ can disown one of his own sons in the past, what stops him from disowning mischievous rascals who now parade themselves as members of his party…?

This is how an ‘elder statesman’ behaves.

“Former President George W. Bush explained Thursday that he has avoided publicly criticizing President Obama because he feels it would undermine the office of the presidency.

“I don’t think it’s good for the country to have a former president undermine a current president; I think it’s bad for the presidency for that matter,” Mr. Bush said Thursday evening on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Mediaite reported.

The former president said that, though he follows politics and is “very aware of what’s going on,” he has no interest in generating headlines for himself by bashing his successor.

“Secondly, I really have had all the fame I want,” he continued. “I really don’t long for publicity. And the truth of the matter is in order for me to generate publicity I’d have to either attack the Republican Party, which I don’t want to do, or attack the president, which I don’t want to do. And so I’m perfectly content to be out of the limelight.”

Mr. Bush is currently making the media rounds to promote his new book, “41: A Portrait of My Father,” which he calls a “love story” about his dad, Former President George H.W. Bush.

OBJ is an old man. He should go and sleep. I wonder why so much attention is given to him self.

  • Ibrahim M

It is clear what he is trying to do: divide and conquer. He is trying to scatter Nigeria, ‘trying’ because he wouldn’t succeed.
