Anxiety and fear pervaded the entire Ogun State and environs late Sunday night as rumour spread like wildfire that the wife of the late politician, Obafemi Awolowo, Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, had died.
The rumoured death of Mama Awolowo started at about 10 p.m, which resulted in frantic efforts by individuals trying to find out the true position of things. The fake news became more pronounced on the social network.
The speculations also saw some Nigerians in Diaspora making telephone calls back home to ascertain the unconfirmed demise of Awolowo, which was later discovered to be a ruse.
However, as at the time of filing this report a family sources from the Awolowo household denied such incident, telling our reporter that, Mama was still alive.
“Mama is alive, there is no such news. Don’t entertain any fear; it was just an unfounded rumour, which has no substance. You can go to bed and thanks for your concern, we shall talk better tomorrow,” a family member, who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES, said.
Meanwhile, as the news became source of concern to many residents, investigations revealed that many have resolved to visit the Ikenne home of the Awolowo on Monday, to further be convinced about her safety.
“Seeing is believing, so we shall make sure we visit Ikenne,” one of them said.
