Ogun State Government has disclosed that the immediate past administration allegedly sold the Governor’s lodge in Ijebu-Ode to an individual whose identity would soon be made public for questioning.
The 7-Man Committee on land acquisition, allocation, revocation revenue and sale of government properties set up by the state government made this known yesterday at a press briefing to herald a legislative enquiry into the activities of government between January 2004 to May 2011.
Chairman of the Committee, Remmy Hazzan further informed that following incidences of complaints from members of the public in their dealings with the Bureau of Lands and Survey, lots of illegalities, which include scandalous sales of many governments owned buildings were revealed.
He said the committee would sit for 30 days to investigate the number of allegations and discoveries, adding that anybody found wanting no matter how highly placed he or she is would be invited by the committee for questioning.

Mr Hazzan who was accompanied by other members of the committee said the body is not set up to witch hunt but will strive to regularise the obvious irregularities, further adding that corporate bodies that have questions to answer will be made to answer for whatever is seen as their act of omission or commission.
The Chairman said the terms of reference for the committee as contained in House Rule 042/2011 include; to appraise the entire acquisition process of the bureau of lands, determine the incidence of any form of illegality, appraise the process of allocation vis-a-is the land use act provisions.
Other are: appraise the process of revocation in relation to observance of the provision of the land use act; ascertain the revenue derivable in the period vis-à-vis revenue derived with a deep look into Bureau of Land and Surveys, reappraise the entire incidence of sale or concessioning of government properties during this during this period.
However, the committee said its preliminary findings points out there are revenue leakage, improper acquisition, illegal revocation, unconstitutional handling of revenue, and improper/irregular sale of government properties with undercurrent of gross undervaluation.
