Alfred Aderibigbe, the man who administered several injections on Osun senator, Isiaka Adekele, shortly before his death, has testified before the Coroner inquest into the lawmaker’s, saying he was only one of many nurses the politician had in Lagos and Abuja.

Giving evidence at the inquest on Thursday in Yoruba, Mr. Aderibgbe said Mr. Adeleke consulted him for the past 20 years on matters relating to his health.

He was led in evidence by his counsel, Lekan Alabi.

According to Mr. Aderibigbe, he first met Mr. Adeleke 20 years ago while working as a nurse at the State Hospital, Ede.

He said he had attended to Mr. Adeleke’s daughter who was rushed to the hospital under convulsive condition, adding that the senator then appreciated his effort with a cash gift.

Mr. Aderibgbe explained that after the incident, he visited the senator regularly on his instruction.

“After a while, I started treating him,” he said. “Whenever he was given prescription and he probably didn’t complete his treatment in Abuja, I would administer the remaining.

“He had other nurses in Abuja, and some in Lagos.

“I’m his nurse in Ede. I don’t know any of other nurses, but I know that whenever he was given injection by those nurses, he would show me in order to know the new area to inject him.

“He was hypertensive and he had gouty arthritis. I was close to him. I used to advise him to rest for him to be okay.

“He stopped smoking for a long time. He drank alcoholic drinks.”

The Chief Medical Director of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, Wale Lasisi, had testified before the inquest on Monday, saying the information available to him indicated that Mr. Aderibigbe had no medical status, either as a doctor or as a nurse.

He also said the Mr. Adeleke was injected with Analgin, an analgesic outlawed by the National Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, several years ago.

Mr. Aderibigbe’s testimony was deferred to Thursday following pleas by his counsel that he was emotionally unfit to stand in the witness box.

    Premium Times Editor,

The Isiaka Adeleke death: suicide or murder?

Can it be argued that ISIAKA ADELEKE therefore committed suicide on the legal principle
of volenti non fit injuria – meaning that anyone who voluntarily submits to an obvious risk,
has no claim for injury or death resulting therefrom? I ask this question because Isiaka
Adeleke was Governor of Oshun state and went to school. If on those credentials this
Isiaka Adeleke was inviting a non-qualified nurse to inject him from time to time,
and took lots of alcohol with analgesics before taking sedatives and injections,
he could be presumed, not so much daft as suicidal, and therefore for consent,
the quack nurse should be allowed to go home right away and eat his dinner.

“It is curious to imagine these people of the world, busy in thought, turning their eyes towards the countless

spheres that shine above us, and making them reflect the only images their minds contain..so do the shadows

of our own desires stand between us and our better angels, and thus, their brightness is eclipsed.”

You should have come to Lagos State Civil Service Club in Ikeja GRA in the 90s before & even after he became Gov. However he was a generous man & helped lots of members in the club who flock to him in Oshogbo then. He drinks but can’t say whether he’s alcoholic.

Is he really a nurse? With the number and amounts of various drugs he administered to Sen. Adeleke, I would be surprised if he is a properly trained nurse. To give such amount of Valium to an already drunk man is inexcusable for a trained health professional. Is it possible to have a trained nurse who can’t speak English and needs an interpreter in court? How did he take his nursing exams?

what is valium used for? ( It is used for alcohol withdrawal) for most people who dont want withdrawals to set it or have appointment same day after drinking too much, it acts like a prophylactic, valium or xanax are the best drugs. The point is your ability to know how much you really need, because it leads to respiratory depression which I believe led to his death.

What of SS3 students writing Physics exams in 2014 that cannot speak a word of English in 2016/2017 and some buhari ardent supporters said it was not unusual. It takes truth few seconds to catch up with falsehood that set off on a travel 500 years ago, covering millions of miles. This country?
