The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has given an assurance that the Calabar-Port Harcourt Coastal rail line and the Lagos-Kano rail modernisation project would be completed before the end of 2018.

Mr. Amaechi said this on Wednesday in Abuja while signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project with a Chinese company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CECC).

The minister said the MoU was being signed in compliance with the China Exim Bank requirement.

He added that the Ministries of Finance, Works and Housing, National Planning and Justice were all involved in efforts to drive the project to completion in record time.

“I am told that before November, we can commence the Lagos-Ibadan construction.

“So, we can begin to count for CCECC in the case of Lagos-Ibadan from November, hoping that in November 2018, you should have finished work.’’

The minister further added that the Federal Government would get the counterpart fund for the project expected to cost 3.4 billion dollars.

In his remarks, Jack Li, the Managing Director of CCECC, said that the project would be completed in record time.

He expressed optimism that the project, when completed, would not only benefit the people but the society at large.

He further gave an assurance that the Calabar-Port Harcourt Coastal rail line would be built in line with international standard.

“I want to give my commitment and assure you that on completion, the rail line will be as good as, or even better than the completed Abuja-Kaduna rail line. (NAN)

  • Truth Justice Equity

Let’s watch and see, with APC and buhari no promise can be taken to the bank, they may deny it tomorrow and blame good luck and PDP .

    • Mufu Ola

Goodluck & PDP are legitimately blameable.

      • Otile

        Imam Olodo’s incompetence is blameable.

    • Otile

They may even blame Avenger boys.

  • emmanuel kalu

is this the only company that can build anything in Nigeria. They seem to have won every major contract. they are build the railway in Lagos, ogun, kano and kaduna. now they are building this one.

    • Dejandon

Because China is the one financing the projects. He that pays the Piper dictates the tune. At least they are helping to build and reasonable rates, Western Companies would build at rates that will cripple us under unimaginable debts

    • Mufu Ola

If they are good, so be it. We don’t want ‘man know man’ contractors who helped destroy SE roads.

  • So oju abe niko

What is wrong with Nigerian Newspapers and misleading headlines. According to the article, Lagos-Ibadan rail-line, expected to begin in November 2016, is the one the minister expects to finish by 2018.

    • bib

Let it begin. That will still be kudos to FG.

      • Otile

This another pie in the sky. Imam Olodo is steadily leading Najeriya into the ditch, thanks tp praise singers like you.

        • bib

Do you mean the ditch dug bby Dumbo GEJ with money:
          1. meant to buy arms to save Nigerians which he distributed to army (c)thiefs, political marauders, tribal and religious bigots, etc, while soldiers and civilians were dying?
          2. Given to Niger Delta Avengers to arm themselves and mine pipelines so that Nigeria’s economy could be brought down?
          3. Government money kept in deposit accounts at zero interest to government while public servants and bankers share interest?
          4. Used to buy obsolete military equipment?
          5. Etc?
If that is what you mean the purposeful government of PMB is already filling The ditch and recovering the money. And in spite of NDA activities he is succeeding in building a foundation for a greater Nigeria, but dumbos cannot discern that now.

          • St

            True

    • Paul Young

There are two different rail projects. Nobody said Lagos-Calabar will be ready in 2 years

      • So oju abe niko

Paul, it seems both my eyes and mind are failing at a relatively young age of 71. On reading the article again, Lagos-Calabar rail was not even mentioned at all. And the headline was on Calabar-PH coastal rail line. I guess my mind just jumped to Lagos-Calabar coastal rail line for inexplicable reason. Thanks for the correction.

      • Otile

It may not be ready at all considering that Imam Olodo is in charge.

  • favourtalk

That is a working minister, the country will ever move forward and we will soon get there by the grace of God, i so much believe in this leadership. serious and not looting one like PDP

    • GameChanger

You’re funny oh! The same minister that could not complete light rail project of how many kilometres when he was in PDP and there was oil boom is now suddenly a working and non looting minister because he’s in APC. The hypocrisy stinks to high heavens.

      • Rommel

How many governors experienced what Amaechi went through under Goodluck Jonathan?

        • Otile

Yes, Governor Fayose has suffered more assaults from you hero Imam Olodo under 15 moons than any other governor since Luggard lumped the sheep and goats together.

          • Rommel

All of Fayose’s woes are self inflicted so I do not feel sorry for him

  • Bebeto

But the Minister promised that work will commence from Calabar? Now I’m reading Lagos – Ibadan.
