NBC Director-General, Emeka Mba, arrested

Emeka Mba

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Emeka Mba, the Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission over an alleged N15 billion fraud, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report.

Mr. Mba was arrested on Monday morning in Abuja and taken to the EFCC’s headquarters where he is currently being interrogated.

Those familiar with the investigation told PREMIUM TIMES the EFCC had been investigating the NBC in the past one month.

Last week, some detectives stormed the headquarters of the NBC, ransacking computers and files in the Finance and Account unit.

During the operation, some key Accounts staff where taken away.

Sources said the arrested officials made confessional statements to the EFCC implicating Mr. Mba and some top officials of the NBC.

When contacted, the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was on an official assignment in Lagos and had not been briefed.

But a top official of the anti-graft agency said: “Yes, he (Mr. Mba) is with us. We are investigating massive diversion of public funds and we’re making progress. Mba definitely has questions to answer.”

This seem to be a new era where stealing is actually corruption.

There is no hiding place for the looters, its no longer business as usual.

  • Darlynstar

Take him to court for prosecution with evidence directly linking him….most people read on the internet that they have been arrested even before the security personnel effect the arrest….let the judiciary handle the case

  • persona

This is another reason why the TSA should be upheld. This new administration is going the zero based budgeting route and this makes it hard for MDAs never to eat yams that belong to the nation.
MDAs that generate revenue still present budgets and hardly return anything.
If this happened at NBC, you can imagine the rot in the past years.
It was free looting with zero accountability BUT no more.
All yam eaters must purge and return the loot intact else dem no go chop again like Methuh.

Nigerians these individuals remain ‘accused’ for ‘alleged’ crimes! Until our courts find them guilty stop showing your ignorance of the way our judicial processes go! Until they are arraigned, prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced for their crimes, Buhari is only playing to the gallery simply to manipulate public opinion to his favour. Can I just remind you that Buhari’s hand is full of graft and because of that these numerous cases of corruption will not the see the light of day. This is because somebody somewhere has Buhari’s dossier which the mallam by no means wants to come out in the public domain. When Amaechi Rotimi and Fashola used to their state monies to bank roll Buhari’s presendential election what was Buhari thinking? It is not graft or that those monies were not distributed by Nigerians and who are now ready to return fire for fire? Again people stop being ignorance. And I am in no way supporting those who engaged in corrupt practices including Buhari but I dont want this trial by the media. Returning the loot does not set you free from the crime – so if a crime has been committed, returning the money means nothing as the law must take its fll course.

    • Abiboss

Which court? The judges will grant them permanent injunctions. The judges are more corrupt than these looters.

      • You with your tyrant president should kill him then. Animals in the zoo. No respect for the rule of law.
If the judges are more corrupt, why not start with them?

        • No Bull …..

If you start with the judges, who will try them?

          • BankyMons

The whole system needs to be re-structured! The current system was put in place by the northern military to perpetuate corruption – Buhari will ACHIEVE NOTHING UNDER OUR CURRENT STRUCTURE. He understands this well because he has always been part and parcel of the establishment. He is simply playing on the ignornace of the majority and he is enjoying it. I lived through Buhari’s 1984 and sadly enough he is still using the same strategy 32 years later. What a shame!

          • No Bull …..

“The whole system needs to be restructured” I am not sure I understand what you meant by that. But I must tell you Buhari is a God-sent to Nigeria.

          • BankyMons

Why comment on something you do not understand then? Is that a new form of aproko (as they call it in Nigeria)? On Buhari – I will say ”don’t count your chicks yet until they ‘ve hatched”. We have seen it (Buhari) all before.

          • No Bull …..

What makes you think you know better than millions who chose him over Jonathan? With your mindset, Nigeria can never move forward.

          • BankyMons

That doesn’t answer my question – you have to wait until he completes his one term just as Jonathan did, then we can compare the two governments with facts not sentiments. Again.,going by what we already know about Buhari, his 1983 – 1985 government remains the worst in Nigeria history. If you want, I can give you a day’s lecture on what Buhari brought to Nigeria and Nigerians in 1983 – 1985. And aagin, nobody voted for him, he was given the chance to hang himself because he was throwing tantrums that blood of monkeys and baboons will flow if he didnt win. So how best to shame him eternally than to give him a job that we was never up to? We did not want blood to flow in Nigeria again, so the elders said, give it to him after all it’s just for four years and his mouth will be shut forever. You kids did not know what happen and you are on here talking giberish!

          • No Bull …..

Sir, there’s a little thing called substance missing in your comment. I don’t how the elders would have handed him over the presidency after the tough fight the PDP put up.
I don’t know how old you are but I was old enough the first time Buhari came to power. Unless you are wiser than everyone else, Buhari is duly elected president of Nigeria, and you better get used to it

          • BankyMons

Buhari was duly elected? With 2 million ”valid” votes in Kano alone? And millions of votes in some northern states that have less than 200,000 adults. Ok no problem, good to know that you are an adult – I am sorry for using the word kid in my previous post. Let’s leave this until 2019 and we can come back and reassess Buhari’s performance. I am gobsmacked that you were around when Buhari just as he is granstanding now ruined Nigeria economy in 1984 that eventually led us to SAP. SAP which Nigeria didnt come of until Okonjo-Iweala bailed us out. I am now saddened more than before. Cheers and bye.

          • No Bull …..

Your perspection of histroy is interesting but I am glad people know better. You might want to update your information to help you understand current events. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala rescued Nigeria with high oil prices while her boss and his officials split up the gains. I am now happy more than before that integrity has made to Aso Rock

N15 billion in fraud? We are now talking in Billions not even millions. How low can we go in this country? It seems the public officials in this country have lost their moral fiber and raison d’etre for public service.

For those that will come out quickly to defend this madness, in the name of witch-hunting, here is what N15 Billion can do:
    1. Provide furniture to all primary schools in Jigawa State
    2. Provide books to all primary school in Jigawa, Abia, and Ekiti
    3. Feed all primary school pupils in any state in Nigeria (excluding Kano and Lagos) for 8 years
    4. Pay salaries of doctors and Nurses working in primary health care centers for 3 states for at least 4 years.

Security Operatives Arrest Buhari’s Nephew in Port Harcourt Over Crude Oil Fraud, so reports Igbere TV

Nigerian authorities have arrested one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephews, Salisu Mamman, and have detained him and his gang at the Federal Prison in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over allegations of fraud, name-dropping, forgery and attempt to swindle some unsuspecting businessmen reports say.

Igbere TV gathered that the gang led by Mamman obtained money from the individuals on the pretext that he will introduce them to the President and use his very close relations with him and purported ties with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who doubles as the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, to help them secure crude oil allocations as well as licences to import petroleum products. The scam blew up when the businessmen’s companies were not amongst those awarded oil contracts by the NNPC.

Confirming this development, impeccable presidential sources who opted to remain anonymous over the tricky nature of the matter said, “Mr. President has been briefed on the involvement of his nephew in the alleged crime. what a shame–This is the second time–the first was a relation of the wife Aisha now the man Buhari
