Okorocha wins Imo governorship election; PDP’s Okezie Ikpeazu triumphs in Abia

Incumbent governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, has emerged winner of Saturday’s  supplementary governorship election in the state.

Mr. Okorocha, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won in 20 out of the 23 Local Government areas in the state where the supplementary election was held, polling a total of 31,326 votes.

His closest challenger, Emeka Ihedioha, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 13,624 votes.

The outcome of Saturday’s election effectively truncated Mr Ihedioha’s of overtaking the governor and winning the election. The PDP candidate trailed Mr. Okorocha with 79,525 votes in the substantive election a forth night ago.

The result of the election was declared inconclusive by the Returning Officer, Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, two weeks ago because the margin of victory between the top two contenders – the APC and the PDP – was less than the number of registered voters in areas where elections did not hold or was cancelled due to irregularities, thus necessitating a supplementary election, as required by the electoral law.

Announcing the total result (substantive and supplementary) polled by the candidates in the early hours of Sunday, Mr. Obe declared Mr. Okorocha winner, having polled the highest number of votes and having satisfied the requirement of the law.

Mr Okorocha polled a total of 416,996 votes out of the total 806,764 votes cast in the election.

Coming a second was Mr. Ihedioha with 320,705 and Emmanuel Ihenacho of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in distant third with 28,434 votes.

The supporters of Mr Okorocha at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  bust into a Christian song of praise titled “My helper” immediately he was announced winner.

“We want to assure the Imolites that their votes count and the expression of their gratitude in the works of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been clearly registered through their votes,” said Alfred Anunugba, the APC agent.

“I’m optimistic that we are yet to see the best of Owelle Okorocha at work. So the Imolites are in for something greater, something more reassuring and something enduring,” Mr Anunugba added.

PDP’s Ikpeazu wins in Abia

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Okezie Ikpeazu, has been declared winner of the governorship election in Abia.

The INEC returning officer in the state, Prof. Ozumba, while announcing the result at about 4:54am Sunday, in Umuahia, said Mr. Ikpeazu polled a total of 264,713 votes to beat his closest challenger Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who garnered 180, 882 votes.

Mr. Otti is a former Managing Director of Diamond Bank.

    2023 Rochas!

    • Nkuu

Yaradua ruled for 2 years. If Buhari or any northerner runs for the presidential election in 2019 it must be for only 2 years. There must be elections in 2021 unless power returns to the SE or SS in 2019.

In your wildest imagination. Drool all you want it is not going to happen. He is not the Messiah we are looking for.

I came to your website for the first time in my life. My friend said you are very educating.
But i don’t think so, because i am not Igbo. I must have come here by mistake. I am sorry.
I did not know you are an Igbo organization. Everything i see here is just Igbo, Igbo, Igbo.
It is either about Okorocha or Okezie or Ikpeazu or something like that. I can’t cope with it.
Next time identify yourself well. You can call yourself IGBO TIMES so that we all know what
we are getting into. But when you say Premium Times it is like disguise. You don’t have to.
No need for disguise. You are an Igbo organization. You should not expect me to come back.

I Will Bring Back Groundnut Pyramid – Buhari.

Nigerian President elect Muhammadu Buhari has promised again that he will bring the groundnut pyramids that died in the 1960s back to Northern Nigeria.
According to him, I will make groundnut oil one of our main forex revenue earner to be shared monthly like the Oil.

In 2015 and 21st century, when Nations or advanced world are thinking of inventions and technological breakthroughs in various fields of human endevour, Buhari is talking of the groundnut pyramids.
Are you going backward or forward in Life. Why not tell the Egyptians to keep building Pyramids for Pharaohs.

For those that think backwards also, investing in Groundnut is not bad, but should be a private sector initiative, driven by a sound fiscal policy. Even LGAs should not be involved in ground cultivation at this age, but will only help the local investors in terns of technical support and refundable loans or grants. Federal government coming in here is shocking. This is not 1960, even in the 1960s, it was never a Federal venture.

Can somebody tell Buhari that the era of the fake groundnut pyramids is gone and gone forever————When the Fulani north allegedly had their abstract groundnut–they could not even use the revenue from it to pay the wages of their regional civil servants—–Again and again it was money from the South West-and SS-that was used to settle the wages-of their regional civil servants—–Hence the move by Lord Lugard to introduce –his British cooked Amalgamation—-policy–which has made the Fulani North become over-dependent on the oil revenue of the South-South for the past 60 yrs—Until Jonathan came to the rescue of the Agric Sector—-Senegal–now—produces the cheapest groundnut field –in Africa————–and are not finding it easy at all————very hard to get a market for their products———If not for the discovery of oil in recent times—————No hope for the dry ground——fields—————At least some of the Apes in APC should know—-that by now

Someone tell this person that is burning that all we are interested in now is for May 29 and the new beginning for Nigeria. We know that 30 years of decay cannot be repaired fully in four years but the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step and hardworking Nigerians have taken that first step.

I know it is difficult for those who benefit from the rot to accept.
