Alleged anti-Igbo comment: What Oba Akiolu really said — Palace

Oba Rilwan Akiolu
Oba Rilwan Akiolu

The palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has issued a statement, clarifying the Oba’s statement when Igbo leaders in Lagos visited him on Sunday.

Read full statement below.

THE PALACE MAKES FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON THE STATEMENT BY THE OBA OF LAGOS.

‎My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.

Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu. At the meeting the visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbos in. Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighborliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.

Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to the growth of investments in Lagos. He gave the assurance that he is not disturbed or angry with South-East and South- South votes for President Jonathan as perceived by the Eze Ndigbos. The Obas thereafter called on the Igbos chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier promised.

He assured them of his continued support‎ and assistance where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and bitter kola and pouring of liberation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per tradition.

2.Oba Akiolu stated further that the Igbo people have not betrayed the throne. Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people. Lagos has done so much to make the Igbos comfortable and to prosper. For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding. The Oba of Lagos prays that the Lagoon and the throne will continue to bless and protect all those who reside and visit Lagos.

3. Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon. The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the need for unity and understanding when you do business in an environment and in this case when you live and do business in Lagos.

Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and prosperity for all its inhabitants.

Thank you Premium Times for making this swift clarification. Lagos State is a Yoruba State that is home to all. It is composed of intelligent, mature residents who will vote according to their conscience and disposition. Our common enemy is religious intolerance, corruption, deceit and the other vices that have plagued Nigeria for so long. The Oba of Lagos needs to stay away from partisan politics. Yorubaland does not tolerate Obas who dabble into politics.

    • nigeria boy

Lanre. good point about the Oba staying away from Politics. But one point of correction. Lagos is NOT and has NEVER been a Yoruba city. It is an EDO (BENIN) province. That is why it is called EKO. The traditional attire of the Oba is all you need to see, to know where the throne really comes from. If Benin people treated Yorubas like this so called Oba is treating the new immigrants, would he be Oba today. One day there might be a Calabar Oba in there. Watch out. Anything can happen in Lagos.

      • Lanre

Lagos State is a Yoruba State. Lagos City is an agglomeration of many ethnicities and has a cosmopolitan nature. However, you cannot divorce Yorubas from Lagos. Indeed, my cousins from Bini are part of the Larger Yoruba family that stretches to Itsekiri Land. So, my brother you can see the expanse of Yoruba territory. We and the Igbos need to bury the needless acrimony brought about by mistakes of the past and forge a common front. Together, that axis that stretches from Lagos all the way down to Ikom, Nsukka to Offa can form a union of states that will be the pride of Africa.

    • ibs

It is idiots like you who give these marauders from the East mouth to talk. The Kabiyesi did say what he was alledged to have said and he has my full support. The above is just PR.

  • Ayodele Eruobodo

Kabiyesi, sorry you missed the point against The election should not be about your candidate or what is good for you but the best for majority of Lagosians, indegenes and non-indegenes Please stop ridiculing your esteem traditional institution by dabbling into partisan politics Learn from history for sake of peace and development of the state

RE-BRANDING THE CRUDE – It is medicine after death. The Oba needs to be prosecuted
    ——————————————————————————————————–

This is pure Nonsense. The so called crude and clueless Oba should call another press gathering like the first, and apologize in person….To issue a fake palace statement is even more insulting.

But why is PT trying to rebrand this brandless, clueless and crude Oba with his dry chest? …they never told us that thugs become Obas in Lagos!

Last year, it was deportation at midnight by Fashola of Igbo citizens. Now is the turn of the Oba to deport Igbos to their death at the Lagoon. Welcome the New Nigeria – a grand conspiracy against the rich South & East.

  • Okafor

Palace statement is hereby REJECTED by the Igbos. It is clear that the stage is set for North & West to feel they can intimidate every one after the sham elections. They must be stopped without delay. A stitch in time saves ten. Secession is still the best option for a continent like Nigeria. If an Oba can be so daft in reasoning and careless in utterance, what about his so called subjects?

1914 amalgamation was a disaster. Ndigbo should take action about the Igbo Nation

    • Akiika

Ooo gbenu e soun! (meaning meshooonu!,….. STFU!)…You guys are so irritating with your secession threats! who is holding you back?
Look at your region, have you really had an introspection of your enormous problem? if a common political party (APGA) cannot survive, how would the BIAFRA nation you are hallucinating about survive? Look at what you allowed a terrible party(PDP) do to you, they dangled crumbs at your leaders and they greedily fell flat for it. Where is APGA now? how many states can it win next Saturday. See how stupidly you played yourself out of the political equation? You acted irrationally out of shear hatred of other tribes even when it was glaring that the wind of change is inevitable, now Ndigbo can neither be Senate president nor Speaker in the next dispensation. If the Oba’s explanation does not make sense to you, then do your worst. You really think your vote can prevent APC from winning Lagos? Have you thought of how much Lagos has been receptive to you? Are you equally good hosts to ther tribes in the east? How come you didn’t stay back in the East you want to secede to for your businesses?. I initially frowned at the Oba’s statement when i read it, but upon the clarification i believe he was misquoted, and if he is lying…at least he has come to deny it, end of discussion! move on. How many inflammatory and offensive statements were made against other tribes by your Obis during the campaigns?

      • SurveyConcepts Online

We are voting PDP, in my LGA, we voted the first non-indigene member of House of Reps and with this recalcitrant statement from the Oba, just wait and see what will happen. Even all those that had any sympathy for APC are going to vote PDP.

        • Lenz

No need blowing hot air in another man’s land…

If PDP is your preferred party then vote its candidate (and vice versa)…

You were making mention of secession and Biafra in an earlier post on this thread…

          Please go ahead!!!…

Your states have no roads, your infrastructure is delapidated… I’m sure if you transferred your ingenuity from Lagos to your home states they would fare better…

But don’t stay in another man’s land and constantly throwing tantrums in an attempt to be noticed… It’s high time you actually move back to your domains and ‘develop’ them the way you ‘developed’ Lagos…

Everywhere you go Igbo people are constantly making noise and disturbing people’s peace…

          • SurveyConcepts Online

You guys wanted One Nigeria. Here it is served on a cold plate. The Oba has not started making incantations. By the next elections, the Igbos in Lagos will be more than the Yorubas and we will see to that. We are already making everyone jittery. So live with One Nigeria, you asked for it.

          • Lenz

Like I said, it is very unfortunate that a great and admirable tribe like the Igbos is so notorious for noise-making and trouble.

How can the incantation of a traditional ruler within his own palace, i.e. within his own domain, constitute an act designed to abridge your democratic right to free expression and vote a candidate of your choice???

Does he have the power to enforce the mystical sanctions of his prayer on anyone?

            NO.

It is just a traditional incantation. So, why must you take offence? Why not just bow, laugh it off and depart the man’s presence in peace?

Oh no, Igbo who feel they own not only Nigeria but the whole world must make an issue out of it. Do you think this attitude will, ultimately, endear you to your hosts?

Look at your statement: “By the next elections, the Igbos in Lagos will be more than the Yorubas and we will see to that.” So you people actually have hostility towards your hosts in this way?

            Wow.

You are not going to prosper in this way…

You guys need to grow up and wake up. These tantrums are becoming embarrassing.

          • obinnna77

But, how are we making an issue out of it? We didn’t say it; he did. You cannot dictate to people who they vote for. Politics 101. If you went to Uni.

          • Lenz

So what is the problem if you know that “you cannot dictate to people who they vote for…” Go ahead and vote the candidate of your choice. The Oba does not have the power to enforce the sanction of his mystical invocation on you. That is his palace, his domain, and you went there to visit him as a traditional ruler over his domain. Simply bow and ship out quietly whether you appreciate his custom or not.

You people are always going around making noise everywhere…

        • Ogom

That is clearly the whole point of this whole broohah – Provoke Igbos in Lagos off the fence to vote JK.

Typical PDP ethnic baiting tactic. This is all they’ve practiced the past few years, which has only resulted in a narrowing of their support base (to the SE & SS) and a loss in the just concluded presidential election.

Anyone who would use such tactics is despicable. JK is no different from the rest of his scum bag party.

          Nothing for him in Lagos.

      • Colonel Mariama(rtd)

OKAFOR may not be Igbo after all
. Sheath your sword now that the election is over.
Let us now agree to get along in order to move the country forward. A Messiah has arrived on the scene to solve all of Nigeria’s problem. In actuality what has just happened is the arrival of a new breed of looters. Only time will tell where the country may yet end up. I am adopting a wait-and-see attitude while I remain ensconced in the comfort of the university where I currently make a living.

  • Frank Bassey

I cannot see the difference from what the Obas was quoted as said. Who are those “working against Lagos”? in this context? Is it not those who did not vote APC? Majority of Igbo voted PDP in Lagos. So, who was the curse directed to? By the way, is this the kind of words a “Father to all” should be uttering?

    • Omo oba

Frank… U need to understand the indebted of his comments. It is a normal tradition. N by d way, non of den should b crossed abt it if surely dey had done no wrongs. He also said he not crossed with d presidential election, he only wants Lagos to keep working.

  • Nwa _ Africa

I thought, Awo gave Yorubas free education? But they ended up not saying anything here…How can you feel unhappy that some people voted for their preferred candidate? Are we in military regime? That is how FKK cost Jonathan his mandate and you have finally cost APC their mandate in Lagos State…I heard that, Jimi is not a Yoruba man but from Somalia hence you do not want his face as Governor…

MOST PRIMITIVE OBA LAGOS HAS EVER HAD

I call on all lovers of freedom of democracy resident in Lagos State to troop out
en mase on 11th April and vote against the INSULTING instruction given by this
most execrable Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos so as to re-assert their humanity.

An Oba who runs shirtless with APC broom has descended into political arena.
Such an Oba does not deserve any traditional respect or merits hearing at all.

Rilwanu Akiolu should be treated as just another thug in the Lagos neighbourhood.
If nothing else, please come out on April 11th to put the last nail on Akiolu’s coffin.
Rilwanu Akiolu disgraces the institution of Obaship as the crudest and thoughtless.
I appeal to all Igbo people to vote PDP and uphold Igbo culture as free-thinkers.
Oba Rilwanu Akiolu is desperate because he takes from Lagos treasury under APC.

NEXT AGENDA FOR LAGOS: Jimi Agbaje

To avoid imminent armed struggle in Lagos State the following steps must start,
to recover all the stolen loot in Lagos state and punish Lagos’ official thieves; viz:

      • A PDP Research Team must be set up today to list the names of ALL persons
appointed into public office by Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu beginning May 29, 1999.

      • The PDP Research Team must list the names of ALL persons appointed into public office

by Alhaji Raji Babatunde Fashola beginning May 29, 2007.

      • The comprehensive names so listed must be ready before May 29, 2015, and copied
in advance to the ICPC, the Police, and, the EFCC.

      • Upon swearing in of your new government on May 29, 2015, all persons so listed
shall be deemed prima facie as criminal collaborators on the largely missing $40 billion
of revenues the Lagos state government has earned from 1999 till date without accounts.

      • O’oodua

……….(2) NEXT AGENDA FOR LAGOS: Jimi Agbaje

        • All business Contractors, and all persons who held the positions of Director
or Permanent Secretary in Lagos state; either in the public service or in the
civil service, must be listed alongside for arrest and criminal investigation.

        • All Judges nominated and appointed by both Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola shall be listed
as potential accomplices in extent that their judicial appointments could provably be criminal masks
for judicial imprimatur they wore to rubber-stamp the theft of Lagos state treasury under
        Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola.

        • All persons appointed to head Lagos state corporations and the Directors of the boards
of those agencies; whether styled as corporation, trust or parastatal, must be listed and
deemed as criminal accomplices for financial crimes investigation.

        • All persons appointed into the public service or civil service of Lagos state, including all those
employed in the 57 local governments by Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola must be listed along
as partakers or and part-beneficiaries of the financial crimes in Lagos state in extent of their
non-qualification for the job or and in extent they were hand-picked for civil service jobs
in violation of legally-prescribed competitive examination.

        • All persons who sat in the Lagos State House of Assembly as Legislators from 1999
are to be included and deemed as criminal collaborators for financial crimes investigation.

    • Harry

YOU GUYS SHOULD GO BACK TO UR BIAFRAN STATES TO GIVE SUCH INFORMATION, WE DON’T NEED COWARD PEOPLE ON OUR LAND………..LAGOS IS OURS WE DON’T NEED IGBO PEOPLE WITH THEIR DANGEROUS ATTITUDE………..WHEREVER THEY ARE THEY ALWAYS CREATING PROBLEMS………GEJ HAS GONE FOREVER…………WITHOUT UR SUPPORT, APC ALREADY WON THIS ELECTIONS SQUARELY……….IGBO PPLE SHOULD GO TO HELL AND LEAVE OUR LAGOS IN PEACE BEFORE WE CHASE ALL OF YOU BACK TO ONITSHA THAT BELONG TO U.

      • Lenz

My brother, these Igbo people cannot stay in their own land and do all this mess… Their states are so inhospitable even to its own citizens: no roads, no infrastructure, brazen and primitive corruption and brigandage.

So, they migrate to other ‘enviable’ regions to foment trouble. That’s all they know. Don’t allow them to make trouble in Yorubaland. They are not grateful for your hospitality.

How can a traditional prayer/incantation of a native Oba within his own palace be causing all this confusion?

      • obinnna77

Harry , you guys should let us go nah. So that we’d need a visa to stay in Lagos, and therefore won’t be able to vote. We left in 1966 , you forced us back, now you want to tell us who to vote for .We are either Nigerians , or we are not. Make up your minds.

      • Zulu

Most people that claim that they are Lagosians are not really from Nigeria. Most of them are freed slaves from sierra Leone, Liberia and Dahomey.

  • ogechi

I said so,this Oba must v been misquoted, slandered or libeled for cheap political gains, its the handiworks of the PdPigs,..it wunt work!

  • Festuso

Under what circumstances did the Eze Ndigbos visit the Oba’s Palace? Were they summoned or did they ask for audience knowing what their people had done to offend their host? I suspect it’s the latter in which case they have another opportunity to remain in the good books of their hosts!

  • Mama Kay

Kabiyesi does not need to explain himself to anybody. As hosts, they have the right to express their desires. If the visitors don’t like it, let them leave Lagos.

After all, what they did in Lagos cannot be done in Onitsha or Aba by Hausas or Yorubas.

The truth hurts but it is still the truth. Tell me ŵhich Igbo town has welcomed non Igbo in their market?

        Facts please and not fiction.

I remember recently an Igbo governor sacked other Igbo that were not from his state.

Sentiments only do not win arguments.

        I stand by my words.

        • Mangara Iweiweman

And you forgot the Yoruba governor that was the first to ‘repatriate’ the Igbos to Onitsha. If you have not been caged in your wonderful cocoon, Lagos, there wont be need to be shown many prosperous Yoruba indegenes that made made their fortune in Igbo land. No, you must confine your bigoted mind to the trash you read from newspapers and internet. Pathetic!

          • Lawrence Aje

Ok, few of you that erroneously believe this evil story must reorder your minds and allow peaceful coexistence of multi ethnicity in Lagos to flourish, but if you can’t, the other option is available to you and so let others live in peace. You cursed that lady, mama Kay so much but she just told you the Blunt truth. The Yoruba rent/lease out their lands to the Igbo people to settle in and erect building to settle their family all the Yoruba get back from you is hatred, lack of trust and humiliation. You curse our traditional rulers, leaders of industries and even political leaders ceaselessly as if we are your slaves. What else do you guys want from the Yoruba people? Looking back at Igbo land can you guys here spitting fire and brimstone point the parcels of land you let others occupy in Igbo land. We advise you to cultivate the habit of respect for your host community tradition and culture and let us live together or exit the land if it is too hot for you.

          • Mangara Iweiweman

Advocate General, you and your generations has never resided or are residing in other parts of Nigeria or world.Brilliant. All the crimes comitted in Lagos state and other parts of Nigeria are perpetrated by the Igbos. The wonderful owners of Lagos and Yoruba land are epitome of righteousness;that is why most of them are established pastors and politicians, landlords and land-leasers. But the crystal facts remains that other tribes of Nigeria(especially the Yorubas) are scared, intimidated and overwhelmed by the rapid enterprise and enrichment of the Igbos(from toddlers to elders). The earlier the Yorubas and other tribes condescends to embrace the divine blessings of accommodating the Igbos, the easier it will be for them(yorubas) to be at peace with themselves.(Not with the Igbos;but amongst yourubaman and yorubaman). Attack or neglect the Igbos and you are invariably attacking or neglecting the development of your tribe and region.Established and verifiable fact! God established ‘Passover’ when the Egyptians got scared of the prosperity of the Israelites and started subjecting them to slavery.God is still God and remains the only true God the Igbos worship. HE will surely raise a standard against those that are envious of the Igbos including LawrenceAje. God will command his Angels to carry the Igbos so that they will not dash their feet on stones called by the name LawrenceAje, ObaAkiolu, MumuKay, etal. IJN Amen!

    • Daniel Ikwuagwu

where are you from? Do you have children and relatives elsewhere? Must they dance the dance of their hosts even of they feel otherwise? How would u feel if your relatives in the east or north were is subjected to this insult? Do know that many yorubas even in the civil service are campaigning for Jimi? You sound very absurd. This is the kind of hate statements that can balloon into anarchy.

  • Mangara Iweiweman

Whatever that was discussed or uttered was in the presence of some pressmen and the purported Igbo delegates/leaders. Hope they will be bold enough to support or contradict this explanation from the Obas palace. Truth must always prevail.

  • Layo

Another PDPigs gimmick to rubbish the Oba of Lagos. It has failed yet again. Vote for the candidate of your choice, as for me and my household, we vote Ambode.

    • Daniel Ikwuagwu

bro, we need to say the truth when we should. He said what he was reported to have said. And its very unfortunate. Very, very.

      • Lenz

Whether the Oba said it or not is not the issue. He merely expressed his traditional values and expectations as an Oba within his own palace. He has no powers to enforce the mystical import of his ‘prayer’ on anybody. That is his own wish. So, why all the noise-making?

Everybody should vote the candidate and party of their choice, nothing can change that. But Igbos have to learn how to behave when they are a guest in somebody’s land. You cannot go about trying to make more out of the Oba’s traditional invocation than is warranted (whether you like the tradition or not) and thereby throw the domain of your hosts into disarray.

That is typical of Igbo people, sorry to say. Trouble, trouble, trouble….

“…and the man has gone bunkumly mad…” Not man enough even to own up to his clear statement.
Another FFK & Asari put together.

A vote looser extra-ordinary. How will APC repair this GRUESOME damage?
How can a single person’s “excessive love” ruin a candidate’s months of
    HARD WORK?

I did not hear the voice of the Oba even when many
of us IGBOs he is now insulting and threatening to massacre were
canvassing for APC’s Buhari, simply because we believed he could help
reduce the current sweeping impunity in low and high places.

While I may disagree with most of my kinsmen on their reasons for voting
for Jonathan and for wanting to vote for Jimi Agbaje (another credible
Lagosian!), I will hence forth demand that the Oba retract his THREAT
and offer the Igbos a public apology.

He needs to know that not all as jelly-levered as Gordian Dimojiaku, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, who
promised him that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode as they
have sworn to do so. WHERE AND HOW DID THEY SWEAR? I DID NOT MAKE ONE!
And he will need to kill more than he can ever bargain for. RUBBISH.

For the Oba’s information, I am a die-hard progressive in disposition.
And a great admirer of Asiwaju Tinubu’s progressive brand of politics,
and his men (Govs Fasola, Fayemi, Oshiomole), even to a fault. Though I
respect the personality and capability of Jimi Agbaje, I just recently
concluded that it would be good for Lagos State to elect Ambode for TWO
    main reasons:

    1. Jimi Agbaje is great but what about his source and those STRONGLY behind him- Bode. George, Ogunlewe,
Obanikoro, and others from the now failed central who may swoop. down on Lagos for their share of enclaves? People
allude that Tinubu has turned. Lagos to his personal property (I disagree), how many jackass would you have
salivating. down Lagos IF Jimi Agbaje wins? Three angry and vengeful warlords, perhaps four, or even. more when you
add those from the central who would soon be jobless.

    2. I may have my apprehensions about Tinubu, one thing NO ONE can take away from him is his sharp nose for good
materials. None of his “boys’ have failed so far as woefully as. is rampart in other parties. He is not sentimental when it
    comes to picking an aide.

Oba Akiolu has poured a trailer load of sand in Asiwaju Tinubu and
Ambode’s progress to a possible victory this Saturday. All he needed to
have done was attempt to lay out the benefits of picking a candidate
    against the other.

This is a huge insult, not just on the Igbo people, but on all well thinking men and woman from all ethnic divides.

    • ibs

Why cant the Igbos stay at home Bros. I dont care which side of the divide you are. Respect your host or ship out of our land. You people are irritating and far too bombastic and rebellious for our liking. F*ck Igbos. Go and campaign for Owelle in Imo State.

    • Concerned

Point of correction the SS :SE votes for GMB were less than 500,000 in total

It is not surprising that some feel somewhat uncomfortable with this statistic

I for one was surprised by the bloc vote for GEJ given how Ibo people have traditionally sort to live among other peoples in pursuit of their livelihoods

My expectation was that they were more cosmopolitan and tolerant than these elections and the commentary in these fora have shown them to be

      • Daniel Ikwuagwu

It is also a known secret that votes in Anambra, Imo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers were manipulated. Even if Buhari had lost, it could not have been by the declared margin. Some political jobbers were at work, just as some were in Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, and Ondo.

        • Concerned

Disagree about your point about the vote in Yoruba land – the margins were roughly 35:65 which is very credible overall

          • Daniel Ikwuagwu

I meant the votes in the east and south east. Buhari got much more votes in the east and south-south than the number recorded for. The ordinary Nigerian has been fed with so much hate and bigotry that we leave issues and common grounds to tear one another apart. The same people who set us against one another end up cooling off in foreign lands till we might have finished ourselves off.

The oba erred. The looser here is Ambode who might have already lost votes after months of gruesome work. Should Jimi win, I assure you that Akinolu will change his tone.

This is sycophancy of the highest order.

May I say this: Jonathan, through some Igbo political jobbers (not leaders) got more follower-ship weeks before the election through the power of the dollars. Some Igbos and south-south people were not alone, Gani Adams and co made an audacious statement, bringing a part of Lagos to a halt with fear and sheer thuggery, all for Jonathan. Where was the oba?

With the loss of Jonathan, many were going to have a rethink. All Ambode need to do is go round again and woo and win them over- but not with power of the dollar this time.

What goes around, comes around. Nigerians need to speak with one voice on this.

This so called Oba is a coward. Is Lagos not a province of Benin? I am from Middle Belt and support Buhari, but I will make sure ALL my friends vote against this APC candidate, so we can see what this so called Oba can do.

    • Comfortkay

If your middle belt is good enough for you why dont you just move down there. Leave Lagos alone we did not call for anyone to come here.

Those of you who believe in traditional breaking of cola and pouring of libation, what do you expect? are there no rehashed kinds of prayers with cola and “hot drinks” ? This is bloody PDP propaganda and as always it will fail. I don’t pray with cola or pour libations so I don’t care for all this noise about a non-issue, all you shouting and making useless threats go vote, one-man-one vote after which you all go get a life!

    • Lenz

My brother, you are correct. This is all very contrived, infantile, and unfortunate…

    DEAR OBA RILWANU AKIOLU,

Just in case the White Cap chiefs in Lagos are shy to tell you the whole truth,
you are the least regarded, least respected and the most hated Oba of Lagos.
You simply don’t know what to say right; when to say it or how to say it rightly.
Your ancestors were not as bumbling. Oba Adeyinka Oyekan was a wise man.
Only a daft man would dictate APC to all Lagosians as the compulsory choice.
No thinking led you into this verbal blunder in public – except your love of money.
Lagosians know you will be implicated as a contractor on Lagos’ missing $40b.
They therefore know why you throw away all the dignity of age and office like this.

    • Question n’ Answer

WHERE DID OBA RILWANU AKIOLU – AS A RETIRED POLICEMAN – GET THE 250,000 DOLLARS

TO CONCOCT CHARMS WREATHED IN ISLAMIST CHANTS TO BEFUDDLE LAGOS VOTERS, IF HE

    • Lawrence Aje

You only spilled out bitterness against your king and nothing more. He has clarified the story now we know how the twisted mind of Femi Fani Kayode disciples work in this bloody propaganda war. You PDP guys have nothing good to offer this state in particular and Nigeria in general but set people against themselves and create chaos, confusion and anarchy. A rational mind will first have a doubt about that story but the wicked souls will pounce on such malicious news and start vilifying victims of the unconfirmed rumours. The Igbo leaders who paid visit to the Obama must now speak out to make the evil liers eat their shame.

  • burning spear

The just concluded March 28th 2015 presidential election in Nigeria was undoubtedly the most keenly contested ever. In a recent article, MARCH 28TH 2015 IS AN UNFAIR CONTEST BETWEEN BARACK OBAMA AND GOODLUCK JONATHAN, it was explained how the Obama White House, deployed its formidable bully pulpit in an orchestrated campaign against President Goodluck Jonathan, while clearly supporting the All Progressives Congress (“APC”) candidate (now President-elect) Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retired).

One argued, therefore, that the election was effectively a competition between Goodluck Jonathan on one hand and Barack Obama on the other. In other words, General Buhari was not really on the ballot, as far as one was concerned.

President Barack Obama’s decision to provide undeclared backing to the All Progressives Congress (“APC”) and General Buhari, violated a long-time American convention of non-interference in the elections of other sovereign nations.

The series of patronizing actions, sponsored by the White House, culminated in a joint statement on March 30th 2015 by the American Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry and British Foreign Secretary Mr. Philip Hammond, alleging that the election results “may be subject to deliberate political interference”.

This broadside was released when the vote collation was still ongoing, thereby casting undue aspersion not only on the entire electoral process and the almost thirty million voters who participated in it, but indeed the nation itself. What a shame

This was the second unsolicited and unwarranted diatribe by the American and British pair, the first being the denigrating joint missive authored by the same duo on March 21st 2015, precisely seven days prior to the election.
The said election has already occurred, but the repercussions from the historic event shall continue to generate reactions for many days, weeks, months, years and perhaps for all time.

This arrogant Oba needs to be called to order. Traditional rulers should not be partisan. How come a traditional ruler hates one of his own Jimi Agbaje so much that he is openly cursing his subjects that vote for him. Agbaje is a law abiding citizen wishing to rule his state through democratic competition. The Oba is being so silly to display such open campaign for Ambode. His statements imply that he is wishing Jimi Agbaje to drawn at the lagoon for daring to contest Lagos governorship. The Oba is so primitive and a bad example of traditional leadership. This is why I support a law to ban all these courtesy visits as a lot of sycophancy is associated with it.

      • ije2014

It’s because of parasites like you that Nigeria is dead on arrival. It would never work. Thanks to this Oba for making you reveal your true colours.

      • Dave

Yeah many of you Yoruba (not all) play “everyone hates
you” card a lot to justify your hatred of Igbos. Igbos are in other
countries too. In the US and other places where they are thriving no one
singles them out for hatred it is only in Nigeria. So it is the country Nigeria
that has a problem. Some of these Yorubas quickly look for opportunity to paint
the Igbos in bad light and to demonize them and to employ all kinds of
semantics and polemics, both civil, uncivil, reasonable and very unreasonable
to make their case against the Igbos even in cases where it is clear that the
Igbos have been unjustifiably wronged. They believe they have some political
advantage to gain by diminishing the Igbos. When the hausas and northerners
register a different voting pattern from the Yoruba they never get any hard
knocks but for the Igbos they are supposed to be happy with a different
treatment. When the Igbos decry an unjust treatment these elements begin to
attack them on issues that are remote to the matter in view. You begin to hear
things like ungrateful Igbos. Why should the Igbo race be singled out to show
special gratitude to other parts of Nigeria? All these giving the impression
that all is fair when it is against the Igbos. I guess many of these people
expect that after the civil war the Igbos will be a nation of serfs and paupers
but it hasn’t turned out so. If an Alani akinrinnade speaks out against the perceived
non-inclusion of the Yoruba in the centre all these Yoruba elements will grow
quiet but if the Igbos show resentment to any slur particularly from a Yoruba that
reeks of segregation, discrimination and exclusion of the Igbos these elements
will rise up with all kinds of clumsy and desparate defences as if it is an
abomination for a Yoruba to be wrong when it has to do with the Igbos. Even now
I am expecting those irresponsible abuses that don’t even correlate or address
the points of my write up.

Lagos is not the only place that the IGBO have been accomodated,I am sure that before now, if you went to Gworza or even Chibok, you will find IGBO who survived in those areas not to talk about the rest of the world so the issues of biting the fingers that fed the IGBO does not arise since the IGBO are not the only people that prospered in Lagos, after all some IGBO were sent packing by agents of the state because they did not survive, did Lagos also feed those ones?

This is getting too much. Anyone who does not want to live and respect the people in the part of Nigeria where they live might as well pack their things and go back to their own part of the country. Today Igbo these and tomorrow Igbo that and yet they cannot survive without the other parts of Nigeria.

    • Lenz

This is the question I am also asking? If they cannot respect the custom of their hosts why can’t they go back to their own state?

The Oba has EVERY RIGHT, within his own palace and domain, to conduct his traditional invocation the way he does it. If they don’t like it they should ship out to their state and consult with their Obi or whatever they call them there…

As far as the Oba has no powers to physically disenfranchise them of their constitutional right to freedom of expression in the democratic space and was only making his own customary invocation within his palace they have no cause to make this an issue…

    • Na wa

      Really?

Are we talking about the same Igbo people who not too long ago asked to be excluded from Nigeria?
Are we talking about the same Igbo people who not too long ago had a mass exodus to the East and asked to form their own country?
Are we talking about the same Igbo people the rest of Nigeria fought to keep in Nigeria?

Are these the same people you think cannot survive without Nigeria? Something is seriously wrong with your thought process or maybe you just need a history lesson, Geez.

Some people are obviously so tribalistic they are pretending certain events did not occur. Events which are captured in history books read the world over.

The question is not whether the Igbos can survive without Nigeria because given their traits & history, that’s a non issue. They can.

No, the question is “why, did Nigeria wage a horrible war to prevent the Igbos from having their own country only to constantly attack them & make them unwelcome?”

    • kk

You clearly are an ignorant person as revealed by your comments. I suggest you read up on the history of Lagos to get a better understanding of its genesis. Lagos is not Ile-Ife, Ibadan or any other Yoruba town. There is, therefore no justification for your claim to ownership of a city that has been built through the collective efforts of Nigerians from all ethnic groups, the majority of whom aren’t Yorubas. I wonder if this new found synergy between the Yorubas and the Northerners would have come about if Buhari hadn’t been the candidate. I am for Buhari. He is a great Nigerian but, I worry about those he is surrounded by. Nonetheless, I’ll urge anybody who likes what Agbaje has to offer to go ahead and vote for him as I intend to, regardless of the utterances of a partisan king. Let the heavens fall.

    • Ogaa o!

Where was your oba when Tinubu and his wives took over all the markets in Lagos? Besides. doe the oba rule Lagos these days? The Ibos are in Lagos to develop it, and will NEVER drown in the Lagoon for any unjustified curse by an oba that does not know where his rights stop.

The heart of the king is in the hand of GOD. Election 2015 will be full of surprises, it is Lagos turn to witness surprises. Tinubu just accept the your OBA played a partisan politics and stop deviating from the truth, Ebuka merited it, under the Nigeria constitution if you have lived in a place for more than 5yrs you can via for an elective position there. Yes Lagos is trying just like some other states too. Sometime ago an Hausa man was a counsellor in Imo State. Your Oba should not remind the Igbo’s what they are trying to forget nor make statement that will sour the long standing relationship between the two tribes. Remember The NDI IGBO are major stake holders of Lagos State. With due respect…………

  • Patrick Iroegbu

“…Whoever works against the royal throne, its interest and peaceful co-existence as per rites of tradition will end in the lagoon.”

This curse was reinforced in the breaking of the koala nuts and pouring of libation to bring to an end the meeting of the Obama and Igbo crown chiefs.

What other clarification does the palace want to make wgen the Oba had stated he wants a a continuity from Fashiola to Ambrose, his personal choice of candidate?

The Oba went too far and must denounce this curse. He cannot intimidate voters with his vested and inordinate interest and still think we can’t read out or understand the polemic of ritual curse.

Political offices open to public contest and voting to determine a winner is different from land disputes and settlements.

The Oba erred completely here and must apologize for the misuse of his traditional kolanut prayer rites aimed at coercing Igbo chiefs to vote for his interest on Ambode.

    • Mac Inoma Diri

His prayers will NEVER be answered. He is not God and Ibos will continue to have their say in Lagos. I am not one but I think the Oba needs to check his statements in future.

      • Benny

        GOD BLESS YOU

  • tundemash

    Lies! Lies!! Lies !!!

The above release was not what Lagos thug said. He actually threatened anyone who goes against his choice.

This is what Nigeria has turned out, a lawless country where everyone has become a law unto himself ………. where are the DSS and Police to pick this primitive man who called himself an Oba up ?
Last time i checked, this thug in royal garb does not have immunity !!

    • Titi

i can see why fashola was sending u back home, devilish people… why not go back to Enugu. no one travel to your place but you travel everywhere to cause mess and have guts to abuse our elders

      • tundemash

You an idi0t who judges people’s ethnicity by their contribution. Ever before you were out of school, I have been on SaharaReporters and PremiumTimes and an unrepetant supporter of AD, AC, ACN, APC and ofcourse the person of General Buhari.
What the Lagos thug, Akiolu, said is very primitive and totally out of place. No Oba, in Yoruba land, dictates to anyone or threatens anyone who to vote for except if you are a f00l !
For your info, I am full-blooded yoruba but i suffer no f00l unlike you !

        • Guguru

          tunde,

          LOL. Very well stated.

        • Benny

GOD BLESS YOU> YOU WILL LEAVE LONG

      • victor

Please, all of u should be matured in ur write ups. Promotes what units us and play down on what divides us

        • But the igbos are always against the unity of this country.

      • Benny

Your oba with his basket mouth? Former olokpaa, bribe has entered his blood stream, who knows how much APC has given to him to start insulting the ibos. We shall see how far the election will go. Tell your Oba to say sorry to the great NDI IGBO. With whom their taxes are used to run his palace. SORRY will heal the wound

  • Okey

.Is another pogrom against the Ndigbo in Nigeria the offing ? Last election, I learnt all of them in the far North did not come out to vote but, instead, ran to the Barracks for their safety and had to remain their a few days more when oddballs went to internet to launch “kill every Igbo” if the result did not go in a particular direction. Now, it is Oba Akiolu of Lagos threatening pogrom against Igbos in the West should Ambode fail to win next Saturday.

But my advice to my people in Lagos is simple: Retired Policeman Akiolu’s threat is mere swashbuckling, empty threat and utter bunkum. Instead, it is a realization and recognition of the fact that Igbos can help in deciding who becomes Governor of Lagos State and that they may dash Akiolu’s hope, if they choose to. Secondly and more important: the fact is that there are Lagosians, Yorubas and indeed, other Nigerians who DO NOT LIKE JONATHAN and at the same time DO NOT LIKE WHAT AMBODE REPRESENTS. This set of Nigerian’s voted against Jonathan last Saturday and are set to vote against Ambode this Saturday. But this set of Nigerians will not succeed without the Igbo vote. It is certain that if Ndigbo in Lagos drop just a single vote in the basket of those set of Nigerians – who do not like Jonathan and also do not like Ambode for what he represents – a huge and mighty upset will be established in Lagos. So Igbos are key to making a decision in that respect and should NEVER be frightened. Lagos and, indeed, Akiolu’s palace is run on taxes extracted from Igbo business in Lagos and therefore should exercise their franchise in any manner of their choice.

Now, unlike Retired Policeman Akiolu, I cannot dictate or even advise any Igbo person in Lagos on who to vote for, but one thing I will let them know is, Akiolu’s threat is as empty as the air. Igbos in Lagos should vote based on their knowledge and conviction.

    • Guguru

      Okey,

Thanks for bringing back the victm mentality again. When will you quit being a victim?

      • Okey

Bunkum ! Akiolu statement is there on stone, it is either you say he is right or you say he is wrong. Your inability to take a position clearly depicts you as one of the greatest dangers to Nigeria’s longevity.

        • Guguru

          Okey,

What position are you referring to? Igbos position themselves to be used. PDP raped the Igbos and they got nothing out of the PDP. When APC is ready, they will also use the Igbos and dump them as well. Every time the Igbo person opens their mouth or shows their hand, they are always indirectly teliing politicians to use and dump them. LOL.

  • Zulu

This is an after thought. The Oba needs to apologize to Ndi Igbo. After all both Agbaje and Ambode are Yoruba. So the threat is unwarranted. Why should the Igbo apologize to him for voting for Jonathan? Is Buhari a Yoruba? The OBA should remember that the Yoruba did not vote for OBJ, yet he won the Presidency from the votes of Ndi Igbo and the Hausa/Fulani. This is democracy for God’s sake or are there plans to repeat the 1967-70 conspiracy against Ndi Igbo. The so called Ohaneze should wade into this. They should not only be heard when political candidates are to be endorsed on behalf of Ndi Igbo.

    • pampam05

So this after thought, can you bring the one before the thought to see.

  • Titi

This is the common problem with Igbos all over the country, Evil Agenda… U take them with one heart, give them a good business environment that they can not even find in their own home, but they will always run an agenda against that of the people…they always vote differently from their host community, and after elections they will complain of being marginalized…Very selfish shallow in thinking people

    • Na wa

Titi, you are the one being shallow and narrow minded. You should be ashamed of yourself. Even if you met one Igbo person for each year of your life, you would not have met enough to make such a sweeping general statement about an entire people.

You share the same mindset as racists who will look at you and condemn you for your skin colour.

If I judged Yorubas by some that I have heard talking, I would say, “Yorubas are the most tribalistic people in Nigeria” but no, I rather believe that I have been unfortunate to meet some very narrow minded Yoruba people like you. I refuse to Judge an entire population by a sample. Renew your mind or you will reap the hatred you sow

    • Jasper ojukwu

Titi you are very silly making this comment as a Nigerian. You did not witness Biafran war to see the devastating impact. You guys should not ignite any civil war with your utterances. Your Oba of Lagos Island must apologize for daring us the ibos. Enough of these insults. Who developed this your so called Lagos if not the ibos?

      • real2x

Why can’t you go and develop or place?

        • ije2014

As an Igbo person I’ve often wondered about that. Why we must insist on living everywhere else apart from south east zone is a mystery to me honestly.

          • Tunsj

Please do not say that. You have the right to live anywhere you want in Nigeria and be protected.

          • Benny

My dear you have spoken well, there is nothing there to clarify, the deed has been done all your oba has to do is just to open his mouth to say sorry to the NDI IGBO but I doubt if his candidate will win the coming election. We went to school and we can read and interpret English language. See the amount of seriousness on his face while talking, he went as far as swearing to his fore fathers CHEI’ An average IBO man in Lagos should watch his back when PDP wins comes 11th April. GOD save Nigeria

          • Tunsj

Like I said, I do not agree with what the Oba of Lagos said and I hope you read what the APC candidate for governor said. I want you to know that the Oba of Lagos does not speak for all the Yorubas in Lagos. He should not have said that at all and I’m disappointed. Lagos belongs to all Nigerians and I’m sorry for the Oba’s comment.

          • Niyoma

Sincerely, as occupants in Lagos, it pays us if APC wins; there will be synergy between the center and Lagos. And I hope that happens….
More Importantly I am afraid…reading and hearing all these hate speeches coming from both camps. Please guys remember that this how it all starts….we cannot afford any civil war….
Igbos, whether the Oba Apologies or Not, please move on and vote whomsoever you wish and not as a retaliation to the Oba’s statement…we need APC to remain in Lagos now we have APC at the center. This is strictly for development

        • Ogaa o!

@real2x. When Igbo left for Biafra in !967, what happened? Did they not draw them back by force? Why? Please tell us why.

        • Benny

Is your place more developed than any of the ibo state? An average Yoruba will claim to have come from Lagos, I have been to Osun, ondo akure, ibaban ogun etc with marginalization we are waxing stronger, we can stand on our feet if allowed to go

    • The igbos were actually expecting another civil war but unfortunately Jonathan disappointed and abandoned them. one can understand how frustrated igbos are.

      • Benny

We are marginalized not frustrated mind you. What goes up must come down. Its a matter of time watchout

    • Arrest warrant

The ibos are always ungrateful and parasites in nature, after knowing the facts, they will turn against the truth..you not the only Nigerians being marginalized and after all you are lying of being marginalized..Nigerians are wiser than any evil stand of ibo people, therefore be among the good Nigerians or keep your distance as usual..

      • Benny

Igbos have open your eyes now they have turned parasite. We have all it takes to stand on our feet. We are the Israelites in Nigeria. Are we not marginalized? Anyway I don’t know how old you are. Think before you say……….

  • Mindset

    Stop deleting my comments!
There are worst comments on here that you allowed.
    Let’s balance the narrative!!

  • Lagos boy

We want change of government in lagos and jimi agbaje provide us with that ever waiting opportunity. This is the time to have it, the peoples choice. Jimi Agbaje is our choice. This is the time to know what INEC is up to

  • Mindset

Ok, they keep deleting my comments maybe I am too harsh on the Oba
So let’s try a different approach.

I am merely challenging mindsets that hold this Nation back.
    1)
Not too long ago the Igbos wanted their own country, Nigeria said “No” and a horrible war was fought to keep the Igbos in Nigeria (history lesson) Yet so much time is spent hating this same people. Something is wrong with the tribalistic mindset

    • Koffa0319

No! You are not too harsh at all. I am a yoruba woman, born and raised in Lagos; Living with no restrictions whatsoever in the USA and no white person can openly tell me to go back to Africa without facing some sort of consequences for saying such. This Oba shouldn’t be forcing his wish, will, his whatever on anyone. Igbos are Nigerians with the freedom to live wherever they so choose in the nation without feeling threatened by any individual.

  • Mindset

    2) know this, every time you make a tribalistic statement against another group you share exactly the same attitude that racists exhibit towards Black people all over the world.

How would you feel if you heard some white supremacist saying all blacks should go back to Africa?, how would you feel if you had family living in (for the sake of clarity) America, & someone told them that they had to vote for a white guy or else?

People wake up!!, we are our own worst enemy. We are the reason why we are a failed nation, we are the reason why, despite all the resources and potential, we are unable to achieve a modicum of international respect.

  • Mindset

The world we live in is a by product of our mindsets!!

If you are one of those, inclined towards being tribalistic against any group,if you are one of those justifying this hateful statement then, every time you hear of racism against a black person, just know that you are part of the problem and as sure as night follows day, you will reap what you sow one way or another. Fact.
How people can call on God & then with the same breath condemn a fellow human being created in the same image & likeness just because they speak a different language or come from a different place is just shocking.

People should be free vote for whoever they want & not be attacked for it. Anything short of that is prosecution.
Nigeria is a country with great potential, and the world knows it. Stop wasting time on minor differences and utilise the strengths of the different groups to make this nation a super power.
Stop being tribalistic!!! This is 2015. The rest of the world is advancing in lifestyle, technology and medicine.
    Stop being shortsighted.
    Emancipate yourself from mental slavery!

    • Mindset

Finally got my points across (assuming they don’t get deleted).

Please my people stop with the hate. If you step outside Nigeria, you realise that so many wish this country would live up to her potential. Each group has it’s strengths. Let each group thrive and the nation thrives, oppress or mistreat any group and we simply store up chaos of our children.

I have on mission & hope you can share it too. – Challenge mindsets, to cause you to pause and think before you speak or act against you fellow human being irrespective of their ethnicity, race, religion, etc.
If we cannot get it right in the largest black nation on earth, how can we expect to effectively challenge those who look down on black people and Africans?

The ball is in your court. The world we live in is a by product of our mindsets. Let’s create a better country for our children

      Peace

      • Na wa

        Mindset,
Thank you for the voice of reason.
All your comments are indeed valid. One of the best comments I’ve read so far. Hopefully, more people share your mindset.

  • Exceptional

It’s so appallling to see fellow Nigerians raining insults and ranting without rational thinking or to say the least; without common sense. For the most part of it, a lot of us need to re-visit the true Nigerian history. Before the event of the civil war, the Ibos were the most succesful tribe in Nigeria and there was fear from the North losing their control over power, if the then Head state continued is regime… A coup was plotted against Gen. Agonyi, as it as always been in the Army, but the ibos were killed along side which made them flew to the East for safety. And the rest is history… What legacy do you intend to leave for the unborn children/generation in your loins? Hate? I wonder! Aside the fact that Lagos was the formal capital of Nigeria, Ibos, Egbas, Aworis, Efik, Isoko Urhobos etc contributed to her prosperity. Nigeria is a nation with over 400 ethnicity/tribe, and over 500 recognised languages, and not for a sub-set of tribe. Please, don’t sow hate and bitterness, cause your children unborn will surely reap in immeasurable immeasurable folds without fail. Be wise! God bless Nigeria!

    • NIGERIAN

Point of correction the IGBO senior military men conspired and truncated the 1 civilian Government in Nigeria. The Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa,The Northern Premier Ahmed Bello,South West Premier Samuel Akintola, the Most Senior Army from the North Colonel Maimalari other notable non Igbo individuals like OKOTIE egbo were all killed by the 5 Majors of Igbo extraction. The Igbos cummunity in various part of the country upon realizing it is their kinsmen in power they became much more arrogant to other ethnic groups in Nigeria especially the Hausas and Yorubas who were the major victims of January 15, 1966 coup against democratically elected Government hence the need to stop their arrogance by counter coup against General Ironsi.July 1966 after Ironsi’s death Colonel Odimegwu Ojukwu led the Igbos to wage war against Federal Republic of Nigeria which lasted for 3 years with death of millions of Nigerian. The rest is now history which we don’t want it to happen again in Nigeria as no country survives 2 civil wars.

      • Hyacinth Osuagwu

The good thing about history is that it will always repeat itself because fools refuse to learn from it. Mr. Nigerian, you have tried to rationalize the injustice done to a people by your unholy alliance and conspiracy because non of your relatives were involved in the carnage that followed the 1966 debacle. Never mind, the even handed justice would commend the ingredients of our poisoned hearts to our own lips. What you did in the last election was a re-enactment of the 1966 conspiracy. Now, you have power, lets see how well you dispense of it. Remember that power is like a poison coated with horney and the operators are like bees that perch on it. They never know how deep they have sucked the poison until the become drunk. According to Shakespear ” the near in blood, the nearer bloody” We are watching!

  • Bola Gold

Go to hell. For this and for threatening the lives of your follow human beings, just because they r igbos and came all the way from east to settle among us, we are gonna vote for Jimi Agbaje, let the gate of hell be lose. Mr Pharaoh.

    • Bombshell

I guess dis is ur mother,s urgly ass?. You see why Oba Akinolu curse must prevail on u
      & ur generation?

      • Anonymous

@bombshell, you are too immature for making such statement. I return dat curse back to you in a hundred fold if I be a servant of God.

        • Peace

Political Propaganda, this statement made by Oba of Lagos taken out of context. When will this opponent stop using tricks to achieve their political goals, someone should stop this PDP, sad, how can we trust such a party, their leaders should step in and stop this nonsense.

  • Koffa0319

Whatever Oba!!! Your utterances were still uncalled for sir. Totally unnecessary. Igbos have the rights to vote for whomever without feeling threatened by anyone, even if you are the Oba.

  • UNAFFECTED

In my mind, we Igbos should boycott the Lagos state election. This state was built with Federal money and many people who live here today came because the Federal Government made it the financial and business capital of Nigeria. Since its location is in the west and the Oba wants those who do not do his wish to perish in the lagoon, then leave the election for them. I am sick and tired of the tirade of many ignorant people who feel they can say anything because the issue revolves around Igbos. Besides, is Jimi Agbaje not Yoruba?

    • Kayjay

Don’t boycott alone, go back to Igbo land.
You have to respect our Yoruba culture, not just dwell and make money.

  • Arrest warrant

Pastors, chiefs, lawyers, day to day people of ibos origins openly called for reelection of Dumbogej, for being one from thier southern empire not even the same tribe and religion And threaten to destroy the country if the DOG-GEJ LOSSES..YOU IBOS TROUBLE MAKERS WHERE IS THE CHIEF WRONG TO CHOOSE HIS OWN TYPE IN HIS OWN TOWN AND HIS OWN GROUND….GO OUT OF LAGOS IF YOUR VILLAGE SS/SE IS GOOD ENOUGH LIKE LAGOS…WAHALA PEOPLE..

  • Victor

Sorry Chief Lateef, much as you have tried to put a spin on the oba’s comments, the audio recording is already in the publi domain and puts a lie on your spin. The deed has been done and the oba’s reputation has been irretrievably damaged in the eyes of any reasonable person.

  • fglakeside

I believe his words were taken out of context bro.. “Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, they have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon.” Though I believe there should be freedom of association and thank God its well speculated in our Constitution.
THERE IS A NEED FOR THE KING TO ADDRESS THE IGBOS IN LAGOS CONSIDERING THE LAST ELECTION RESULT: And don’t forget the development and peaceful Co existence of the people in Lagos State is paramount to the king more than anyone and that’s the truth. The IGBOS should please understand king’s view.
THE LAST ELECTION : We saw how the IGBOS voted for PDP in various states in the South East and as I speak there is no single IGBO man in APC at the Senate, a people who want political power, progress and development wouldn’t voted out their own child based on political sentiment and by so doing they committed a political suicide and lost the opportunity to have produced the next Senate President.
Politics is a game however you see it. they should have planted a Senator in APC and others in PDP because of their dream as a people rather than flushed off the APC Senator and killed their dream once again. Lagos State has been an opposition for almost16yrs and finally the party has produced a President. Therefore,Lagos State can not afford to be under the control of the opposition in its own government, it doesn’t make sense politically. With APC at the federal level Lagos State is politically stronger and now have tremendous federal willpower to bring more outstanding development to the people of Lagos State.
I believe these were the reasons the king called them to order..strongly I support that.

    • Oluwatoyin Samson

      He is not my father…

    • Benny

My dear condemn evil and evil will never befall you. WHAT YOUR OBA SAID TO THE IGBOS IS WRONG AND UNACCEPTABLE> you guys wants to divide this country. ONE NIGERIA WE STAND

      • Kayjay

One Nigeria my foot. Have you ever seen a Yoruba man trying to dominate any of the Igbo land?
You are in Lagos, a Yoruba land and claiming it’s a no man’s land. What an insult.
Can Onitsha become a no man’s land to a Yoruba man?

        • Hyacinth Osuagwu

Yes, if Onitsha ever gets the chance of becoming a federal territory. From all indications, you are suffering from verbal diarrhea and should not be given the attention you are getting. From your comments, it appears you have never travelled beyond lagos.

  • MushinSpeaks

The unserious Jimi started this ethnic divide; going to markets to pitch the igbos against the yorubas. Ambode is our man and we will ensure he secures victory at the polss.

  • Ayodele Bakare

What have you been smoking? For God’s sake; there is video and audio evidence all over. I saw the entire debacle with my own eyes on Channels television. An apology is in order here; not further insulting our intelligence and ridiculing the Yoruba race with ludicrous and untenable explanations.

  • NIGERIAN

‘’He assured them of his continued support‎ and assistance where needed and
the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and
bitter kola and pouring of liberation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition
of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne
and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon
    as per tradition.’’

Why on Earth these defeated Jonathanians will not give up and go about their businesses. How can a mere incantation by a traditional ruler in his domain suppose to attract uproar? Why Nigerian press will deliberately carry out of context head line news just for the sake of mass sales without thinking of the repercussions having fully knowing that mischief makers don’t sleep. When prior to 2011 election GMB used a popular Hausa idioms that describes fierce hunting contest between Dog and its usual rival prey monkey the mischief makers till date are capitalizing on it. Journalist should be able to master peoples culture, language and tradition very well for them to report correctly.

  • Sadiq Garba

So, afterall it’s not what you are saying that he said. Royal statements are not for street consumptions. I believe nobody can convince those who pass the negative meanings of the statement, for most of them are either ignorant of what Royalty mean, because they have none, or they are looking for what to promote against the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria.

  • Toks

Take it or leave it, the oba has spoken he might be right or wrong but there’s nothing you can do, you guys are just keyboard warriors. if you won’t to sought it out yourself the palace is always free.

  • Gilbert Utubor

All the Oba, had to say is he is sorry an appeal for support or better still endorse the candidate of his choice. The Oba’s action is very shameful unless he is a complete illiterate or without any wisdom or leadership skills. Their is audio evidence, it’s not defendable as a matter of fact and embarrassment to Lagos APC. Oba’s actions defeats the purpose of having an election.

    • Kayjay

      Because you an Igbo man

      • Kayjay

All respect a country, town or village that make you comfortable.
And stop trying to dominate, you can never be a Lagosian but an Igbo man living in Lagos

        • Hyacinth Osuagwu

Is there any difference between you and those xenophobic redicals in South Africa or between your Oba and King Buthelezi? Here yourself talking and read again what you have written and tell me what moral right you have to condemn those folks from South Africa, A man lives in your house and pays the exorbiant rent that you charge, invests his income into a business, pays his tax (which most of you do not pay), rents shop space from you and even employs some of you and also buys land from you to build his house, provides his own water, light and security and you suddenly become envious and cry domination without considering the fact that you had taken his money in exchange for your land or house. Is this what you call fairness?

  • Niyoma

this is how ethnic violence starts “LEARNERS”!!!: A hate speech here, a threat there….a propaganda here , a detest there….LETS BE CAREFUL.

Please Be aware that if there is a major crisis , the Oba, the politicians and the elite have kept their families in secured places in the UK and US….its the “poor masses” that will suffer it; be it Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa or any other tribe….Or do you think when yorubas start ‘throwing’ the igbos into the water, the Igbo will stand and be watching or begging? trust me the ratio will be at least 1:1 in that lagoon(we don’t know who the other tribes in Lagos will support…lol)…at the end , its still we the NAIVE FOOLS that will LOSE…

The Igbos are occupying “your Lands”…. Did they steal it? or they bought it?
I grew in FESTAC in the 80’s . Then, it was dominated by Yorubas. now it is dominated by Igbos. More than 95% of the houses built in the estate i live in Lagos are built and owned by Igbos. who is to blame? the igbos or the Lazy Omonile? you cant eat your cake and have it nau…this is a basic economic dynamics…Do you castigate a Man for choosing to buy what you chose to sell?

Take is or leave the Igbos are enterprising. Destroy all their business…with time, they will bounce back doing the same things…Bear in mind that the “Igbos” are also buying lands and building the “best” houses in Benin republic and Togo as well….some even own private beaches and the locals there are Angry… (Igbo and Lebanese control Benin Republic)…

Why cant we live together and harness each others strength and manage each others weakness…There is strength in our diversity…the earlier we begin to recognize this, the better for us all.
