At least 75 Boko Haram militants were killed by local hunters in Maiha Local Government area of Adamawa State, residents of the area have said.

Maiha town, which is about 25 kilometers from Mubi town that was captured about two weeks ago, and about 200km from Yola the state capital, has now been recovered from the insurgents.

Maiha fell into the hands of  Boko Haram insurgents in a fierce battle with the Nigerian troops on Monday.

Sources say local hunters ambushed the insurgents and killed them in their dozens.

“The hunters mobilized and gave the insurgents hot chase during which many Boko Haram sect members are killed,” Bello Ya’u, a resident of Maiha, said. ‘’We commend them for the gallant fight.”

Corroborating, Baba Dauda, a local hunter told PREMIUM TIMES that the hunters made up their minds to fight because the insurgents had been maiming too many people.

“We had to wake up  and fight the bastards that keep plaguing our societies killing innocents souls.

“People should brace up and start fighting them, we killed many of them. We are not afraid of being killed,” he added.

Following the attack, some residents of Maiha now fear reprisal attacks and are moving in droves to the capital of Adamawa, Yola.

The state co-ordinator of Civilian Joint Task Force, Bako  Goni,  said over 2,000 people, including youth vigilantes, local hunters, retired military, police and para-military operatives, artisans and petty traders have signed up to confront Boko Haram insurgents in the  state.

Mr. Goni said the volunteers resolved to use dane guns, sticks, bows and arrows to confront the insurgents, thereby complementing the efforts of  Nigerian soldiers fighting the terrorists.

The insurgents have taken over many towns and villages in Adamawa State, including Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South and many others.

The Boko Haram your politicians created in order to pressurize President Goodluck Jonathan is burning and consuming your people. Jonathan is a Godly man and the Almighty God is solidly behind him and protecting him from the evil machinations of your wicked northern politicians. This fire will continue to burn until they confess. Without this your region is doomed.

It is time for Dumbo to select his next service chiefs from the local hunters. I am sure they are going to deliver far more for him than these crops of pot-bellied, clueless and corrupt scout masters, called generals. What has Nigerian military turned to? The combination of commander-in-thief and corrupt generals is surely a recipe for a disaster, as we can see in Nigeria today.

  • Dr. Kay

Over to you Dumbo , where is the $33.6billion budgeted so far to fight insurgency if this is what the affected communities have to resort to for their protection .
Well done to these proactive vigilante groups for ridding from their midst these appalling insurgents .
Now can the real Nigeria army go and secure this town to forestall any Bokoharam’s attempt to retake the town and unleash mayhem ,destruction and unimaginable terror towards these vigilante to make up for their humiliation.
What all these insurgency and the fleeing of the timid military guys is showing is that never again should any community be afraid of these pepper soup and mammie market loving military outfits we have in this country.
Next year is going to be a watershed year where the military will have their noses and eyes made to see pepper , if they allow themselves to be used to rig 2015 elections.
Bokoharam chasing them away will appear like a cake walk.
My people Dumbo has been cornered ,he’s clueless and bereft of any idea on how to deal with complex Naija issues , another 4 years of this ineptitude will be disastrous for the future of this nation.

  • Ahmed Pam

I must commend these hunters. Everywhere terrorists are, normal people must rise to the occasion. They will watch their neighborhoods and report suspicions persons/movements. When it comes down to action, they will line up and defend their people.

The truth is that islamic terrorist are hard to put out. It took several years for the highly funded, technologically advanced CIA to find and kill Osama Bin Laden. We will not win the war on this evil overnight. Those who support the terrorist indirectly or directly are responsible for their courage. Those who support them morally are quick to jump out and condemn the president whenever terrorists strikes. Truth of the matter is, we have no template yet to deal with this level of insurgency.

  • Bidemi Lukman

Looking at the picture of the hunters, it is obvious that two of the hunters are likely to be muslims- the one with a scarf on his shoulder and the one with rosary on his neck. Others could be combination of muslims and christains. This prove some people wrong (including CAN president) tagging BH activites as religious war against the christains. The day Nigerians see BH as a scourge against our national unity and collectively wage war against them irrrespective of our religion and tribe, we would all chase BH away from Nigeria just as this hunters chase them away from their community.

  • Spoken word

if the hunters can do this why haven’t the military been able to do this as well. this is just not acceptable.

Nigerian government must not abandon locals fighting Boko Haram. The government must arm them.
It is not right to allow local hunters face Boko Haram militias with just bows and arrows – that’s suicide.
At a time of war it is the bounden duty of government to arm defense forces of an invaded community.
Otherwise, everyone will become desperate to import arms in self-defense and turn Nigeria to Somalia.

      • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

It is an open sectret that the northern jihadist politicians ganged up to oppose state policing in the past despite their insistence on Islamic police Hisbah which is a huge recruiting ground for the Boko-haram terrorists.
        Stop disseminating falsehoods !!

  • tuco

Impressive, job well-done local hunters. If the coward soldiers can’t take them and their fat cat leaders who are only poisonous lairs that leave in abuja in their big luxurious mansions, safe and secure while their home-town is being taken over by rag-tag insurgents. The most unfortunate thing, they don’t even give damn. Shameless cowards.

  • Alcindo Satori

very impressive job you guys! As always however, PR times fails to tell the whole truth; “THE military has begun an all-out offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists in the northern part of Adamawa State.
Informed military source disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that some foreign troops had joined the Nigerian military in the fight against the insurgents.
The source revealed that foreign fighter helicopters were also involved in the operation to wipe out the insurgents in the area.
It was gathered that one of the foreign helicopters crashed on Monday, but the pilots survived and were rescued. The crash was attributed to technical faults and not enemy action.
The military source said the Nigerian troops, in company with their foreign counterparts, had captured most of the towns hitherto in the hands of the terrorists and were now advancing to Mubi.
It was also revealed that local hunters in the area had joined in the war against terrorists, as they captured them alive and handed them over to the military.
Some of the foreign troops said to be involved in the onslaught were Israelis and Americans.
It was learnt that intelligence reports revealed that ISIS terrorists had been giving Boko Haram terrorists support and this made the foreign troops to join the fight to send them out of the North-East.” Now, that’s sounds more complete!!!

      Wake up dear.
We blame Jonathan for the crises in some states with elected governors. Do we also commend Jonathan for the relative peace in Lagos and other states? Something underlies the silence or support of the locals all this while.

      • Oladele

Sometimes you wonder why we got to this low: when the Senate approved $1B to Fed govt did you hear allocation for security went to the governor? in the current year defence allocation was 1.3Trillion Naira, did that went to governors? a state CP of police can even collect money from a governor but does not carry out his instruction because by hierarchy he takes orders only from AIG to DIG and IGP who himself takes orders from president. No soldier takes order from governor so all the military deployment to the states in crises answers ultimately to the C-I-C and if his field commanders up to CDS does not carry out his orders he should be man enough to sack them. I hope you understand better and let us stop been clever by half.

I have been vindicated.I made these comments yesterday” I have said it and i would say it again without fear, there are 2
reasons boko haram has fostered stronger. 1 sympathetic elements both
from the army and locals. I remember vividly when bagdad fell and tikrit
was invaded by al qaeda, they planted road bombs, committed suicide
attacks from tikrit to mosul to kirkut, but once the locals united they
were able to chase al qaeda off tikrit during the peak of the war” The point i always maintained over experiences in islamic militancy and war is the experience of local forces. If the locals do not want boko haram in those territories they can take them off. All militant activities border on the local support. Our military has failed primarily because they have not been getting the cooperation they need from the locals, there are many sympathetic elements. If anybody is listening my 2nd point and most important is the end of extremist islamic radicalization, this would be the nail in the coffin for boko haram.

    • Ote

      @the truth
      On point.
      The
locals and their state governors in Anambra and Abia States fought and are

The question now is: are those targeted for genocide bound to ‘national unity’

with those who intend to kill them, and, in the case of Yoruba Christians –

buffeted by Muslim-led governments internally; are they entitled to self-defence
by force of arms under international law?

President Jonathan sees Boko Haram as an insurgency but it is not!
Boko Haram is out and out a genocidal, armed Muslim Salafist militia

I hope this is not a publicity stunt and an attempt to showcase some jobless natives. If this is so, I advise whoever is playing the tricks to move the boys out of that place fast because the insurgents will mobilize and finish all of them including the remaining innocent residents.

    • bubba booey

If they’re smart they’ll move out and let the scumbag Islamists take the town over again and then they’ll come back and ambush more of the fuckers.

  • Ajayi Ifayemi

Something is smelling and it is not a sweet smell at all. If the news reported here is true. Then something is smelling badly.

    • Danny

sniff sniff, I think I smell it too

    • Sally

Believe it or not it is true. Bad Nigerian leaders beware you have pushed your own people the wall and they shall retaliate. Once they finish the bokos they will come for you! Yes You! You who have created the bokos and hid them behind Islam so that you can make the country hate Muslims. All Muslims renounce Boko Haram. They are not of us and they will never be. And do not comment on the Prophet of Islam with gross ignorance. And do not forget the Christian Crusaders too… If you think Muslims forced ppl into Islam, same goes with christian crusaders go back to your history books you ignorant fools

      • Ajayi Ifayemi

This has absolutely nothing to do with me sir. I do not hold any of the views you talked about here. Unless you are just using the vehicle of your response to clear you mind.

    • Qur’an 2.256 “Let there be no compulsion in religion …”, yet Muhammad
destroyed/desecrated all the idols of the Kaaba, all the idols of Arabia,
except the Black-Stone (his choice idol).

The Qur’an and Hadith doesn’t limit the expansion of Ummah al-Islamiyah, the lands over
which Sharia’s Theocracy must be administered; in comparison to the
Torah’s Theocracy over a specified land: Eretz YisraEl.

      • moustachio

The difference lies in Mohammed asks his followers to spread his word to all corners of the world and expand the kingdom (same as Christianity) and the God of Judaism gives them explicit right to Israel and tells them repeatedly to kill every woman, man and child.

All made up fairy tales but don;t play games that your imaginary friend is better than the rest – he is just as full of pride and evil and his followers are the best examples of modern day terrorists

        • “Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him” (Sahih Bukhari 9.57).

          • BCEOD

God is answerable for his behavior in both testaments…I always laugh when Christians try to ignore the horrible behavior of their god. The fact is, the gods from the Abrahamic religions are horrendous violent brutes. Slavery, rape, genocide, infanticide, selling of people as property were all ok…funny as secular culture has evolved the bible can be seen for what it really is…a collection of myths and legends from the bronze age.

      • John Cowlen

My comment has nothing to do with religion, but, thank you.

  • Fraga123

Rock on my true naija brothers!

  • Yeah! Take ’em down! If everyone in Nigeria killed just one Boko Haram insurgent a day, Boko Haram would be gone in..well, a day, I imagine.

  • Jack D. Ripper

I say we send a couple of White Supremacist groups over there. Tell Bubba and the boys “Boko Haram” tastes just like chicken!

    • Captain Obvious

Yeah, because they would definitely only kill Boko Haram and not just slaughter everyone they saw.

Laudable. But Femi, admirable as your appreciation of the man is, do you suppose you would have gotten on well with him?

  • Lawrence Efana

Femi it is gratifying that you put it across this way. Nigeria was cleaner, respectable and progressive. Those leaders who followed after tried in different ways. The important thing is knowledge is incremental in the area: our circumstances and the forces informing our diplomatic style and quality notwithstanding. But all said and done, we are glad to know that diplomacy here and there is becoming more and more sensitive. Some of the raw elements in it are undergoing serious ransacking re-evaluation because things were not right with them. There is a course to rethink outside as well as in Nigeria. Foreign policies have left so much to wake-up many in and out. We know it is about dealing with unpredictable human values, experiences; the lessons of history, politics, economic progress and environmental sustainability. There are things about it to make us work hard to invent new values and approaches. It is still an open sphere showing that there is or will always be better alternatives to things and the challenges faced that do not serve the values of peace, progress and indeed sustainability. Excuse me for taking it “the generalist” way rather that go into the tacit contents of your article.

    • AFRICANER

I had just finishing responding to your comment in another article, thus:

It is said: “You cannot legislate morality”. These has-been military dictators, such as M. Buhari have to realize that the world has changed, it’s now digital, and a competitive global economy. The military are only good at defending their nations from foreign enemies; the military take their orders from civilian, democratically elected government.

To read, or listen to Mr. Buhari harp on about “the path of order and discipline” is a bit embarrassing. It’s about time this man, along with other generals, exit the stage, to enable Nigeria get back to educating the masses, ushering in a spirit of innovation and the rest.
