EXCLUSIVE: Obasanjo writes Jonathan, accuses president of lying, destroying Nigeria, promoting corruption

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

An apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has written what clearly competes as one of the most acerbic letters in modern history to President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.

“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter dated December 2, 2013 and exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday.

He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.

He said in the letter titled “Before it is too late” that rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians, Mr. Jonathan had betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, and has been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he receives from “self-centred aides”.

In the detailed letter, dripping of anger , frustration and what appears a genuine concern to rescue a nation on the brink, Mr. Obasanjo lamented that Mr. Jonathan had become terribly divisive and clannish, destroying his own party, polarizing the country along regional and religious lines and ridiculing Nigeria in the comity of nations.

Without mincing words, Mr. Obasanjo blamed Mr. Jonathan for the crises tearing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, apart.

He said apart from using party chairman Bamanga Tukur to cause multiple crises and divide the ranks of the party, the president’s failure to keep a promise he made not to seek a second term is also generating tension within the ruling party.

“It would be unfair to continue to level full blames on the Chairman (Tukur) for all that goes wrong with the party,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “The chairman is playing the tune dictated by the paymaster (Jonathan). But the paymaster is acting for a definitive purpose for which deceit and deception seem to be the major ingredients.

“Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and the measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person who shared his observation with me. And only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honorable path.”

The former President said Mr. Jonathan told him before the 2011 election he would not seek a second term, and made the same promise to governors, party stakeholders and Nigerians.

The president’s refusal to keep that promise cast him as a man without honour, Mr. Obasanjo said.

Saying it would be “fatally morally flawed” for Mr. Jonathan to contest in 2015, Mr. Obasanjo added, “As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character. I will want to see anyone in the Office of the Presidency of Nigeria as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”

Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of anti-party conducts – supporting opposition parties’ candidates in governorship elections in Lagos, Ondo, Edo and Anambra states at the detriment of PDP’s own candidates –, and of pitting party members against one another.

Saying the President had failed to address the underlying causes of the Boko Haram menace, Mr. Obasanjo urged Mr. Jonathan to adopt a carrot and stick approach in dealing with the insurgency explaining that “conventional military actions based on standard phases of military operations alone will not permanently and effectively deal with the issue of Boko Haram”.

Mr. Obasanjo also tackled Mr. Jonathan for allegedly being clannish. “For you to allow yourself to be “possessed”, so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an “Ijaw man” is a mistake that should never have been allowed to happen. Yes, you have to be born in one part of Nigeria to be Nigerian if not naturalized but the Nigerian President must be above ethnic factionalism. And those who prop you up as of, and for ‘Ijaw nation’ are not your friends genuinely, not friends of Nigeria nor friends of ‘Ijaw nation’ they tout about.

“To allow or tacitly encourage people of ‘Ijaw nation’ to throw insults on other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as an Ijaw man is myopic and your not openly quieting them is even more unfortunate.

Two Ijaw men, ex-militant Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and a former federal commissioner for information,    Edwin Clark, who carries himself around as the political godfather of the president, are known to talk down on people opposed to the president.

Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of placing over 1000 Nigerians on political watch list and “training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his killers”.

He wondered why the Presidency was providing assistance for a murderer to evade justice.

“Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of his victim,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viwed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learned his lesson. Let us continue to watch.”

Mr. Obasanjo did not mention the name of the murderer he accused the President of protecting but he seems to be referring to Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former security aide to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who is facing trial for allegedly masterminding the killing of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of Moshood Abiola, the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election.

Mr. Al-Mustapha was freed by the appeal court in July but the Lagos state government has since appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court.

The former President also called on the National Assembly to rise up and take decisive action over the recent allegation in the country that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation failed to remit billions of dollars in proceeds of crude oil sales to the federation account.

“This allegation will not fly away by non-action, cover-up, denial or bribing possible investigators,” Mr. Obasanjo told the President. “Please deal with this allegation transparently and let the truth be known.

“The dramatis personae in this allegation and who they are working for will one day be public knowledge. Those who know are watching if the National Assembly will not be accomplice in the heinous crime and naked grand corruption. May God grant you the grace for at least one effective corrective action against high corruption which seems to stink all around you in your government.”

Mr. Obasanjo said he wrote the letter in the national interest, saying nothing, at this stage of his life, would prevent him from standing up for whatever he considers to be in the best interest of Nigeria, Africa and the world.

He said he was ready for whatever backlash his letter would provoke from the presidency.

“Knowing what happens around you most of which you know of and condone or deny, this letter will proke cacophony from hired and unhired attackers but I will maintain my serenity because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria…,” Mr. Obasanjo said.

“I have passed the stage of being flattered, intimidated, threatened, frightened, induced or bought… Death is the end of all human beings and may it come when God wills it to come.”

  • Audu

Who is obj to say all these? This is what i hate to hear from someone who is not qualified to criticize. Obj did everything to get third term against our constitution and the same person telling jonathan not to take second term he is constitutionally qualified to take. Obj double standard amaze me.

    • deep thinker

God bears me witness, I wld prefer Obasanjo’s third and fourth terms than the single tenure of this clueless, ogogoro master with no ball.
He is a big shame to himself, his clan and Nigeria as a whole.
Can you imagine a Nigerian president in an African gathering and was not recognised. This is the biggest disrespect Dumbo brought to us. I am sure the organisers wouldn’t want a repeat of his last AU meeting saga.
      God help Nigeria.

      • Chima

this is like a comment I read in Concord newspaper in November 1983.

    • Bademasi Adedotun

Who is obj to say all these? I have one answer and one question. My answer? OBJ knows President Jonathan IN AND OUT BECAUSE HE WAS PARTY TO GOODLUCK JONATHAN BECOMING PRESIDENT. SO HE HAS ALL THE INFORMATION AND AUTHORITY TO SAY THESE THINGS. My question is: Audu, have you responded to the issues raised by OBJ? No you have not. Better to respond to those issues on behalf of your sponsors in Aso Rock led by President Jonathan

    • Bishop

And if the 3rd term failed, is it wrong to now advise someone since u’ve been there? Nigerians are suffering for each mistake by the leaders. May God answer the prayers of true Nigerians

    • Barrister Brown

Shame on you Audu for leaving the substance of Obasanjo’s warnings to chase an illusive shadow! Your likes make me give up on Nigeria! ASUU is still on strike because Jonathan can not be trusted to fulfil his promises! Very unfortunate indeed!

    • Adoki

This is why Obj is qualified to criticise:

      (1) He became president when Nigeria was the second most corrupt country in the world. He left us more than 30 places up the Transparency international ranking.
      (2) Regardless of what the egregiously corrupt Nigerian media would have you believe, he was hard on corruption, coming down hard on the high, the mighty, friends and foes alike (Tarfa Balogun, Sunday Afolabi, Ayo Fayose, Mobolaji Oshomo, Bode George etc etc)
      (3) He demonstrated leadership both at home and abroad. Mr. Obasanjo would not be anywhere in an international event where he would not take centre stage.
      (4) For the first time in this country, you had, in a single regime, a collection of performers like Ezekwesili, el-Rufai, Ribadu, Soludo, Okonjo-Iwealla, Akunyili etc)
      (5) His public finance prudence resulted in our ability to offset our foreign debt, build the foreign reserve, create the Excess Crude Account.

      • IskaCountryman

he was also the minister of petroleum for 8 years…his name is on the halliburton list…

        • Adoki

No, his name is not on any list. Bring the list you have and give us your source.

      • Gidi

You are so right on the money. I have said many times, OBJ is still the best President that ever govern Nigeria. His records from 1976-1979 speaks for themselves. His economic records from 1999-2007 was far better than Yaradua-GEJ combined. Even current minister of finance, Madam NOI, cannot say GEJ is a better public finance manager than OBJ. I recall that NOI was first seconded from World Bank to help Nigeria set up DMO under OBJ first term. Nobody knew her at the time except few people in Presidency that worked on the project.

Has Obj got some flaws? Yes, his human right records is questionable. However, if we are to choose between OBJ and GEJ, I am sure Nigeria will go for the former. OBJ is a true Nigerian Nationalist. He put country first before ethnic or tribe. No one can accuse him of been a Yoruba President as opposed to what GEJ is being accused of today.

I know most Nigerians are quick to forget state of affairs in 1999. But some of us knew what it took to bring Nigeria back to committee of nations after enduring multiple sanctions under Military regime. OBJ personally double down as Foreign Affairs Minister in the first 3 years, traveling all over the world to repair country’s image. Nigeria went through 4–5 foreign affairs ministers until 2003, when OBJ found a solid professional, with gravitas, to run his foreign policy. OBJ’s effort yielded EFCC, ICPC, NEEDs, Debt Forgiveness, Economic Growth etc

  • wissy

i laugh. G-7 Govs wouldnt have defected if not that the initial plan and promises crashed. God bless Nigeria

    • Ademola Michael

Can you answer OBJ’s questions? Can you ask President Jonathan, minister for finance and coordinating minister for economy-Dr. Iweala and minister for petroleum Mrs. Alison -Madueke to tell us where the 8 trillion naira is? We need explanations and NOt your diversion.

      • Orisadare Stephen

        abi oooo

      • Chima

read NNPC response in today’s thisday newspaper

        • SUNDAY

Yes, Thisday and Nduka would cherish this moment because that is how they make their money. NNPC and Dumbo are on the rack and it is an opportunity for the ‘Duke’ to make his millions through his cash-and-carry journalism by emerging as medium to fight back. These are definitely the best of times for plc journalism.

          • JI

Jonthan, Ngozi and Diezani are great people.

What about Sun Newspaper that published it?

The enemies of the nation daily expose their folies and Sanusi has just disgraced himself

          • Chima

You can also find it in Daily Trust of Today. I am very certain this ASUU strike need to be called off immediately.-The intellectual reasoning is getting more porous everyday among Nigerians.

      • JI

over N4 trillion of it went to Petroleum profit tax. Go to FIRS to confirm. Does Sanusi claim he does not know? The taxes are remiitted directly and is statutory

Mind you it is from both NNPC and JVC’s

I am so upset at the reactions to these fictitious claims

      • IskaCountryman

let obasanjo give us his 8 year account as minister of petroleum…

    • IskaCountryman

after the crash of his plan the big masquerade is here calling for a coup…obasanjo, the young boys that would carry out the coup will not salute you…

  • What do you mean by “Who is Obasanjo to Say this”. Are Nigerians better off economically now than under Obasanjo’s Presidency? What was the state of Corruption then and now. Are there merits in his utterances. Please respond to the message and not the Messenger.

  • ANIETIE EKPE

Mr. Obasanjo is saying all that he did when he was President of Nigeria. Since he could not change Nigeria during the two times he led this country, he should shut up and face the consequences of the bad society he assisted to create. He did no better than Jonathan is doing.

    • biddy

Aniete Ekpe, can you please respond to what OBJ said? That will be helpful to the country. If you cannot, you may need to shut up.

      • ANIETIE EKPE

OBJ was no better President than GEJ and by that fact should not play a saint. What did he do that Jonathan is not doing? He should examine his failures and look for solutions rather than dance to the gallery.

        • maimalari

Obj may not be the best, but he is by far better than the present president

          • Orisadare Stephen

            yes

          • John

Yes..even though we know all Politicians have there own selfish interest, OBJ is far better than Jonathan or any other president Nigeria ever had. He is rugged and the only man that could step on toes yet he tried for Nigeria. Have you forgotten about the DEBT relief from Paris club, the fight against fake drugs (As compared to when you buy chalk called paracetamol or when drugs were sold per derica in the north), Telecoms(or was it not this same DAVID MARK that said “Telephone is for the rich”. I know OBJ couldn’t solve the power problem but yet OBJ will never condole the kind of corruption we have in Jonathan’s administration.

          • IskaCountryman

the first johnathan should arrest is obasanjo…open the halliburton file…

          • Adoki

            Who closed the Halliburton file?

          • Abu

Obj should realize that there is time for everything & when you have the opportunity use it well. Obj was a military head of state & 2 times president for 8 good yrs, pdp bot chair etc he had all the oppotunity to correct the rot & ills in this country today but did not do much to right the wrongs now he is crying wolf bcos he has failed politically, as it is now he cannot even win a free & fair election in his own constituency & the North has now known the dirty politics he played on them, he deceived them.
Ojb even wanted a 3rd term, but now he wants Goodlook to do only one term, is he a better Nigerian than Gej, is 2 term meant for only obj. Gej have the right for a second term if he wish & let Nigerian decide through a fair & free election. Not Obj or any interest group for that matter can force, blackmail or intimidate Gej to drop his 2nd term ambition Nigeria belongs to all of us.
Talking of corruption, were is all the billions of dollars Obj spent on power without results ehat of roads. Obj is the real problem of PDP & Nigeria.

    • bade

I prefer that you tell president Jonathan to explain to the country how he and his two madams-Ngozi Iweala and Diezani Alison_madueke cornered 8 trillion naira. That will be relevant to Nigerians than your response-okay?

    • Ide4u

OBJ should have left Jonah in that creek where he rightly belong. We all blame OBJ for sell this rotten tomato turned mold to Nigeria.

      • osas

OBJ HAS FORGOTTEN WHAT HE DONE TO BAYES SO SOON, WE ARE GOING TO REPEAT IT TO OTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY COME S 2015 .
i belief that knowledge is obtain or comes from reason. intellectualism.MORE ARM FROM IJAW . LET ME ALSO ASSURE YOU THAT WE THE IJAW ARE FROM BENIN AND LIBERIAN TO SETTLE DOWN IN NIGERIA SAYS DOKUMBO.

        • john

lol….Bad statement from a south south illiterate

        • Nasir

Osas Do yu “think” thru your anus?

        • Ali A-ly

          we are waiting for you

        • chinda babba

The biggest fool in the world, ordinary sentence is a problem. .go back to LIBERIAN

    • Okikiola Beckley

No matter what Mr Obasanjo did in the past,it takes some moral courage to write this kind of letter. We want more of this.

      • DanielOsazuwa

Sane mind, you have said it all. This is the beginning of the end of years of locust fostered on the Nation by the corrupt ruling elites if we can stop this stupid tribal and ethnic affiliation.

If Baba Iyabo has realised his gravely error and aboninable mistake, he should be commended.

        • akpos1

I think you have a problem. Have you ever bothered to find out the reason why continent Nigerian ‘leaders’ only discover their errors when they leave office & another ethnic nationality occupies their post? OBJ did not realise his error for eight years, Gowon for 9 years, IBB for eight yrs too.

Haba Daniel, I suggest you see psychiatrist with 99yrs experience. Pls treat my advice with exigent urgency. Thank you.

          • Ikechukwu Okey Martins

I strongly believe you are the one that need his or her head examined. Either you don’t understand simple English or you are drunk like the “drunken fisher man”. What did Comrade Daniel said that is making your father run mad?

I know people like you don’t read. If you read the full text of OBJ letter, you will see the complete failure of this your Jonathan.

Shame on you and your family.

          • Doctor

My people, make we nor let OBJ letter fool us o. The same old fools from the days of military day nah e still want to deh dominate us. OBJ plans nor go work this time. he carry Yar’ Adua put there 2007 and they look for another way to carry another incompetent one give us for 2015. God nor go gree o OBJ.

      • armrod

Obasanjo has strong immunity against SHAME. This country was heading towards rock as a result of his third term ambition. Then he claimed that he kept study silence.
If this is moral courage then Authur Nzeribe has it more than obj. This has been the habit of obj since he came to power. He has been carrying along this path because everybody know him like that. It was only Abacha that could have finally tamed obj.
He said all these out of sence of entitlement and frustration. He has decided to ventilate his bitterness because his plot has failed and he paid dearly by helplessly seeing his foot soldiers decamping to his enemies camp. The only option left for obj is to bite his ego and reconcile with Tinubu or completely resign from active politics. Obj no longer have political base. Jonathan is effectively in charge of pdp southwest. It is between Tinubu and Jonathan in southwest. Now, that his political sons refused to remain in PDP he has caused the part of north he is fighting for to go into opposition in PDP.It is still not clear how those who decamped will fair in APC.

    • PolyGon2013

Nobody could change Nigeria in 2 terms, period. And you you should stop defending the indefensible. OBJ prepared the way for GEJ, and I’m sure, he is regretting it today.

      • Badejo Ademodi

But can someone begin to PREVENT a SLIDE INTO corruption in 2 terms? yes baby. So GEJ should begin to PREVENT a SLIDE so that things will STOP adding up-period.

  • armrod

The masquerade has finally emerged we know it long before that Obasanjo is the brain behind all that is happening in this country. His failure to control Jonathan and determine the flow of political power is the cause of his frustration and bitterness. His political children he sent on errand to pressurize Jonathan and bend him to abandon his ambition have failed and have been captured by his political enemies. This is the source of worry for obasanjo. that because the G7 failed to force Jonathan to handover power to them and by extension to him obasanjo has become a sad man. He has been attacking Jonathan long since when he realized that jonathan has become his own man. When his attacks could not work he planned to destroy pdp. Obasanjo is not the only past president in this country and nobody disturbed him when he was ruling.Jonathan who he thought is going to be under his control has proved to be his own man.
Obasanjo should die politically so that young ones can spring up. He is not the owner of Nigeria, we have done more than enough for him.
It is the same religion and sectionalism that was used to keep igbos from power. Why should anybody complain now. If because that power won’t go back to the north that will make this country to break, bring it on!

    • Rodney

Mr. Reno Omokri-the adviser to president Jonathan on New Media alias mani_kay=armrod na deri na afam alias mkpukpu Michael Nwafor is mr . reno omokri is this all you can say? Too bad for you.

    • obi

Mr. RENO, we know you….all of that refuse to call a spade a spade. A day shall come. We the real Nigerians will castrate and hang you all.

      • dele

he is also called Peter2000 and the main promoter of Hope for Nigeria and Build up Nigeria, that bread and butter internet adviser, Reno Omokiri, the sons of a thousand fathers

    • Yahuza Sani Sagagi

It is now OBJ and not IBB, not ATIKU, not CIROMA, not APC, not Baraje, not Amaechi.

We will soon hear of OBJ being the sponsor boko haram.

      • armrod

Your own case is my enemies friend is my friend. Anyone that is fighting Jonathan will naturally be your darling since you hate Jonathan. Make your own comment on this let Nigerians judge your sense of judgment. I am not saying that am 100% right or that Jonathan is getting everything right. I have stated my own observation, state yours don’t be afraid you have many fans here that will support you.

    • IskaCountryman

obasanjo is writing for himself, by himself and on his behalf…we from the north do not mind johnathan for another 4 years…the country does not belong to the buffoon obasanjo…

      • emmanuel

were, oponu…….u think w don’t know u guys working in the Presidential Media Office, masquerading under various names to defend ur indefensible paymaster? abeg park well, w know all of you: Mani Kay, Deri, Peter2000, Iska Countryman, Aniete Ekpe, Akpos, Osas and others. U guys hav lost relevance on social fora like this cos you are known to blindly defending lies and promote d badly damaged image of your pay master. your likes are the reason Nigeria has not moved forward cos rather than stand up to defend the truth, u mortgage your conscience and the future of your unborn generation, for crumbs ur Boss pays you.

  • Tobibs

    Woooooooooaaaaaaa!!!!

  • Goodluck

I do not believe that seeking second term should be an enough reason to cause problem for the polity, the real problem is that the democratic selection process is fraudulent. If we have good internal democracy and free and fair elections, on what basis will Jonathan be seeking second term. But when the Nigerian power brokers including Obj congregate themselves in PDP and agreed among themselves that they will be rotating corruption while they use all the state’s apparatus to force themselves on the people, that is where the problem is. In the age of ICT, it is very easy to conduct a free and fair election, but the PDP will not allow that. Finally, Obj knew the quality of the person of Jonathan before arranging him in line as a possible successor to Yaradua. So Obj can not exhonorate himself from the current rot in Nigeria.

    • Adoki

I agree with you that it is one very costly mistake that he made, and one he would be regretting at this moment. I hope that one day he would be able to tell it all in his memoirs.

    • Abdul Karim Zachary

Very well said, and properly articulated. If Nigeria were a true democracy where the people could have their say it would not be necessary for any one to tell GEJ not to stand for a 2nd term, after all it is his democratic right under a duly constituted constitution. But democracy in Nigeria is a sham, and its constitution is fake.

  • Rodney

Guys wait a minute. President Jonathan will ask Mr. Reno Omokri his adviser on New and Social media to respond thru the following clones-mani_kay, mpitikwelu, deri, afam, armrod, comfort_kay, es3, Mr.peter2000, oleku, “wole” , “omo yoruba”, akpos1, and they will also create new clones-just wait and watch.

    • Wole

You must be a moron to accuse everyone who has had a separate view to yours as an employee of GEJ.

    • Oleku

My friend grow up and stop being petit. Are you trying to gag freedom of speech and expression?

  • Obasanjo’s undoing was his refusal to package his achievements. However, then we had International respect and Admiration, GSM, Anti-Corruption, Debt Repayment and Relief, Foreign Exchange Stability, Increased External Reserves, Increased Employment etc. What have we achieved today?

    • Adoki

Well, it is all in the character of the man. He is never one for media ‘packaging’. Atiku said in his book that Obj is no match for him when it comes to the media project. But I don’t think Obj cares very much because he thinks it is up to Nigerians to make up their minds about who is working in their interest and who is not. It is unfortunate that Nigerians have chosen the wrong people as their friends and heroes. In the same week when CNN credited Obasanjo with being the initiator of the global campaign against apartheid, Nigerians were busy calling him names simply for reliving a private moment he had with Mandela. It is our collective loss, ultimately.

      • Mr. Abdin

That is absolutely true, Atiku can spend his last kobo for the promotion of democracy in Nigeria, and media project is one of the basic.

    • John

Help me tell them oo……What is noticed is that some people don’t understand what is called Governance.

    • OB

We all keep touting about wht obj did while in office and wht he didnt do. My simple questions are: 1) Hw many years was Obj the president of this country. For how many years is GEJ’s ??? 2) For hw many times was obj d commander in chief.. and how many times for GEJ ??? That at least shd give us a balanced argument.

    • Cambota

      Plus energy(defunt NEPA) projects.

  • AbdulYakub

There is absolutely no doubt that GEj is a collosal disappointment. What a shame that he represent us from south south at the presidency. I will take Obj anyday.

    • akpos1

      …Nonsense. OBJ shud shot up.

What benefit is derivable from Nigeria illegally run as a country when all evidence point to the fact that we are a continent?

Nigeria is the population of UK, France, Portugal & Spain put together. Isn’t this absurd? Britain refused to amalgamate with France, Spain or Portugal but came to Africa to amalgamate the North, West , South East & South South bcos of their useless selfish economic interests. Yet, many continent Nigerians carry on as though “Nigeria” was created by God & therefore MUST remain one whether or not people come to bomb worshippers to death in Churches, Motor parks, Schools or elsewhere.

This orgy of self delusion that Nigeria is a country has got to stop somewhere. We are a continent. Secession NOW! God bless the Niger Delta Republic

      • Rodney

eh eh eh kata kata don come akpos1 Reno Omokri don wake ooooo!

      • Olubanjo Ajayi

So akpos1 , that is why (i) Mrs Stella Oduah, aviation minister stole N255m and President Jonathan is shielding her from prosecution, (ii) Mrs. Iweala Cooridnating minister for economy/Mrs. Alison Madueke minister for petroleum/President Jonathan himself collectively cornered eight trillion naira. Does this sense of Ijaw South south nationalism and Igbo south east nationalism secesionist acts make sense to you? In other words, when you have your South South and South east Republic are yu going to loot your treasury? I know what happen in your dream country Republic of South South and South east-the fabled Taiwan is not my business, but I am just curious if looting the nation dry is an argument to justify a split which I encourage we should have. That is I am for a break up of the country- because I am tired of this Goodluck Jonathan corruption-but you seem to imply that President Jonathan is looting the country dry as a way to justify a break up. That is extremely sick. It can only be a product of a demented mind.

        • akpos1

You admitted that you are ‘extremely sick’ in your last lines. That’s good. Make the sickness kpai you like yesterday. Enjoy the sickness.

Long live the Confederating Republic of the SS&SE

          • Olubanjo Ajayi

Your demented mind has no limit. Reno Omokri = akpos1 it is ONLY a SICK MIND Like yours and the SICK MIND of a President like your Ijaw President Jonathan that can produce SICK CLONES like you akpos1/deri/afam/ etc WE KNOW THE SICK IJAWS IN THE CREEKS, I AM SURE YOUR CORRUPTION WILL CONTINUE IN YOUR SS AND SE REPUBLIC . IT IS ONLY SICK PRESIDENT THAT WILL HAVE A MINISTER THAT “PURCHASED’ TWO ARMORED CARS WITH N255M , PAID THE MONEY, AND WE DO NOT EVEN SEE THE CARS. That can ONLY happen in an Ijaw Republic. Finally, can you SEE how your sick Ijaw president is welcomed ALL OVER AFRICA? That is what you will get in your Republic of SS and SE-!!! Bring it on baby.

The security Chiefs especially the DSS need to either affirm or dismiss the allegation.Failure to act before it is too late will lead to a catastrophe that could consume every body. The wizard of Ottawa has said it all and predicted well the possible response from the Presidency, outright denials, foul language by over zealous aides.

if you like take obj or drop him, we people of se ss are solidly behind Goodluck Azikiwe Jonathan

    • dr oduniyi olusoji

Africa leaders should learn to lose the right way than winning the wrong way. GEJ seems not to have the mind of his own, always being pushed around by the crookish monsters in his cabinet. Despite this is never too late for him to change for the better. Most of his followers , myself included beliefs his losing the support he enjoys in 2011. The best way to predict the future is by creating it. Time will tell.

    • Horsfall

From your Handle you aren’t from the south south. OBJs letter was more of an advice on how the presidency should run the country. Understand the context of the message.

Keep talking about Obj’s corruption while Baba is busy creating Jobs for Nigerians. He has one if not the biggest farm in Nigeria and has assisted numerous states acrosss Nigeria to establish farms e.g-Delta State.Any Chicken from KFC has Baba’s stamp on it.

Guys, I just want to inform that President Jonathan has a new clone created by mr. Reno Omokri. His clone name is John Ola. Just watch out. He will soon show his name here.

    • Oweja

Noted. Rodney, please confess, – are you a genius at fishing out phony names?

  • Obasanjo’s undoing was his refusal to package his achievements. Under Obasanjo, Nigeria achieved International respect and Admiration, Positive Foreign Policies, GSM, Anti-Corruption, Debt Repayment and Relief, Foreign Exchange Stability, Increased External Reserves, Increased Employment etc. What have we achieved today? so obasanjo should blame himself and leave johnathan alone…

  • Ehigbai Oikeh

I agree with those who say Mr Obasanjo is part of the problem. After all he imposed Messers Yar’adua n Jonathan on his party n den Nigeria. He initiated d cascade of troubles bedevilling us now.
However, he has raised valid points. Mr Jonathan’s administration is fearfully taking us to the precipice.
Perhaps, Mr Obasanjo did not know the true extent of Mr Jonathan’s capabilities.
Mr obasanjo was on trial between 1999 and 2007. Internal terrorists did not run riot on the nation. This is the most scary problem confronting us currently.
While not taking sides (after all vurtuslly all our heads of govts have mismanaged state affairs), it is not a case of :
    “You are a thief”
“You too, you stole before me”.
Simply put, Mr Obasanjo’s era is over; we failed to hold him accountable. Somehow he parcelled a seemingly OK country to his successors. That “OK” is being seriously challenged presently.
    We all should be scared.

  • Obasanjo true to his character! He has quickly disowned a failing government so that he will be seen as a saint after Jona’s crash. Hmmn, Naija I hail!!

    • truthfulnigerian

After advising him to no avail, OBJ disowned the corrupt GEJ govt more than a year ago. Please face the truth.

      • Thank you for enlightening us! It therefore means St. Obasanjo had no hand in the making of Jona. Very much so. We must turn that guilt on gullible Nigerians. We appreciate you.

        • Ngozi Benjamin

Let the truth be told. Must we always justify wrong doings.

          • kome ovo

Wrong doings? OBJ is openly telling all of us that Jonathan must honourably accede to a power sharing formula that would ensure a ‘you chop I chop’ PDP formula to make sure he (OBJ) keeps his hands on the reins of power.

    • vansegzy

Thats an inference… Lets Face Facts!

    • IskaCountryman

      • Aisha Mahmud

Where is ur friend Mani kay?

    • Gidi

Without shadow of a doubt. He cares about this country more than current occupant of Aso Rock. GEJ is an “Ijaw Leader” who is interested in dividing Nigeria into religious and ethnic faction.

      • Richy Amechi Fidel

God bless you for standing by the truth.

      • Aisha Mahmud

        True talk Gidi!

  • Omoakin Baba

Anietie, OBJ had his issues while in office and is partly responsible for putting GEJ in office (another big mistake on his part), I agree. But please let us address issues in Nigeria, and not personalities, otherwise, we will never move forward as a country. The key question you should have asked is, Has OBJ lied in this letter? The answer is clearly NO.

Nigeria is seriously bleeding, and if you have not seen it, then please tell us what you are smoking. The corruption we are seeing today is at least 250% worse than whatever we have experienced under any other previous administration in Nigeria’s history. The Yar’Adua administration has paid about N285Billion for oil subsidy in 2010, yet GEJ ballooned it to over N2Trillion within about one year – A growth in costs of more than 600% within 1 year! And not a single person is in jail. Yet you say there is no problem? Are you okay, bro?

The oil and gas industry is almost comatose. His administration cannot fund a 2013 budget based on a crude oil price of $79/barrel, yet crude oil prices have been at an average of over $102/barrel thus far in 2013. This is largely because oga GEJ’s administration has been unable to stop bunkering by rogues on the one part, and collect the taxes and royalties due to the Federal Government from many of his friends that bought the assets sold by the International Oil Companies.

Nigeria has fallen on almost every index of human development since GEJ came into office – life expectancy, unemployment, infant mortality, security, suicide rate and even polio! Ask the UNDP, ask Transparency International, ask The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Yet, rather than look at these FACTS dispassionately, many of us adopt knee-jerk atavistic sentiments that do us no good. It seems most of us have not linked the future of our children to the misadventures of the current set of jokers in power.

So, if I do not blame GEJ when things go wrong in Nigeria, who should I blame? God? That is why the man is the C-In-C. The buck stops on his table.

    • Ngozi Benjamin

Too much talk. When will the real action “Occupy Aso Rock” begin. This saga alone is enough to spark up demonstrations by true Nigerians. Why are we so docile?

      • Adoki

I am absolutely with you on this one. I think we should start brainstorming on how to begin to mobilise against the current system.

        • Richy Amechi Fidel

YES, I AGREE WITH YOU. IF WE CANNOT STAND FOR OUR RIGHT NOW THEN WE ARE FINISHED.

      • Efe1

And you expect an Ijaw man to stand with you? The igbo will not join either. That is the main success of GEJ govt, he has so divided us we will not be able to speak with one voice.

    • Mog

I liked your open-minded opinion , mr Omoakin Baba

    • Gidi

I couldn’t have said it better. Hopefully, my people will learn and open their eyes. GEJ, Dezani and NOI is systematically mortgaging the future of our Children and Grandchildren, and we watch in silence. What a pity!

The country celebrate corrupt citizen with m.o.n, o.o.n etc and the honest one are paid peanuts, sometimes to carry placard that perpetuate and sustain the manna feeding the corrupt few.

    • Johnson

No matter d level of corruption in d present govt, OBJ lacks d credence to comment against it cos he is d author of corruption in Nigeria. He first expressed unending quest to remain in office. He battered d rule of law.His stance now is indeed hypocritical. He shud be ashamed of himself

    • Michocho

Brilliant boy, “o kare omo alalubarika”.

  • Oyewale, Oyegoke Solomon

He took the decision of putting GEJ on the seat for selfish reason. He manipulated the process that brought GEJ to power. Though I have forgiven him because some other things still speak for him, but this is d problem baba has caused. I must still appreciate him for making this public. God will judge Mr. president rightly. He is like saul that was brought from the scratch, who within two years turned against God. God ofcourse took kingship away from him. I samuel 15

    • Adoki

I hope that Baba would realise that even his admirers are blaming him for the mistake he made. Although I honestly do not believe that he did it for entirely ‘selfish’ reasons. I think Baba thought he did not finish the work that he started, and needed ‘cool-headed’ successors who would not, for instance, blow the foreign reserve and Excess Crude Account that he left. That is not entirely selfish, is it?

      • Oyewale, Oyegoke Solomon

yes, it is not. @Adoki, seems you are making sense out of this. This must be true.As an Economist, I know the original NEED document since early 2000 is still being pursue by GEJ administration, and passed thru Yar Adua too, only coined into his 13 point agenda. God bless U. The question is, how many people would understand this?

Pastor Reno OMokri in da house. Somebody shout alleluia!!

  • omadewu

Even though i respect obj as one of the finest african leaders still alive, i am appalled by the contents of his letter to Mr president. How could obj expect gej 2 years in office to achieve what he could not achieve in 8years in office particularly national unity. Vindictiveness or chastising percieved political enemies is not fighting corruption. i think the issue really here is the guts of gej to seek 2nd term. But why should gej not seek 2nd term when obj himself seek even 3rd term if not killed on the floor of the national assembly? Destiny, fate and providence cum divine favour are working for gej. Let’s us respect the will of God. another 4years more is not too much.

    • SUNDAY

Destiny, fate, providence and divine favour may all combine to work for gej, but he has overstretched this combined grace and failed to take this advantage to work for posterity. How I wished gej could remember the principle of queen esther in the bible: Perhaps, God elevated me to this position because of my people….’

  • Otunba

      • Cambota

  • Oleku

Yorubas and treachery. Imagine OBJ talking about corruption? Unbelievable.

  • JI

Obasanjo layed the foundation for the destruction of Modern day Nigeria by not trying the military men of the unfettered corruption in their various regimes and diving headlong into corruption.

If Obasanjo is removed from the businesses of Dangote, Otedola, Kase Lawal and Alakija they would not make the Forbes list of world richest people.

The only person who stole close to what Obasanjo did was IBB.

Boko Haram today is the offshoot of OBJ’s evils.

I saw a cargo train today in Lagos with 15 coaches heading to the port, which Jonathan did and my economy has improved in the last 19 months, so what is the man talking about?

If half of what goes to tackle Boko Haram is ploughed into the system Nigeria would have been better

We know what is happening, OBJ planned to heat up the system with his Northern elements hence he sent the letter same time with Tambuwal speech. APC’s own is coming in the next few days.

OBJ the shame of a nation!

    • Nasir

This is anus thinking! Classic thinking thru thru anus

      • JI

You are used to anal life so your best response is anal talks.

You either have Down Syndrome or not properly brought up. From IBB to UMYA all spent huge monies from our budgets on the Railways which they killed and Jonathan revived it to carry cattle rearers like you from North to South and Cargo, yet he has not done anything(How many Southerners are benefiting from the rail?)

Give another Northerner the presidency again and all the Rail thing will be history again. All the UBEC, PTDF, etc monies are up until today the sole preserve of the North whole steal those first line charge agencies dry.

        Dan Banza!

  • audu liberty oseni

I salute the courage of OBJ to say the truth, however he knew from the outset that GEJ has no ability to become Nigerian president but he foist him on us. In whichever way he may say it he is the genesis of the problem and posterity will not forgive him.

    • kome ovo

Courage to say the truth? I call it frustration by a puppeteer who suddenly finds he is unable to control his puppet and direct his own orchestrated puppet show.

      • Adoki

No, sir! The facts simply do not support your theory. Obj openly criticised IBB; he criticised Abacha; he criticised Yar’dua. So your theory does not hold.

        • IskaCountryman

          who criticised obasanjo?…

          • Adoki

It is like you did not read the comment I was responding to. Try and stay in sync with the logical sequence of the posts on this thread.

        • kome ovo

You keep talking about the facts, who didn’t criticise IBB and Abacha? Does the fact that he criticised Yar’adua and has now turned on GEJ not tell you that his grand project went to shit from the get go? Do you not see the manipulator the old man is? I do not have a fish in this fire but let me make bold to say that the purpose of OBJ’s letter is in tandem with recent political moves by a group of men intent on seizing power instead of a Jonathan that allowed free and fair elections in Edo state; OBJ said it in this letter that GEJ has been involved in anti-party activities especially as the PDP wasn’t a threat by any account in the Anambra elections because they were not allowed to rig. I do not trust politicians even less men like OBJ, the only reason he is doing all this now is because he sees a new tide coming and doesn’t want to be caught by the waves.

          • Adoki

“You keep talking about the facts…” So you don’t want me to talk about facts? You would rather I dwell in your kind of fiction, abi? And why don’t you just stick to the argument instead of writing long story? You said he criticises Jonathan because of this and that, and I asked you to also explain why he criticised other presidents who were there before him and before Jonathan. You cannot answer. Now you are turning it into “he sees a new tide coming and doesn’t want to be caught by the waves”. So which one is it sir – the ‘puppet/puppeteer’ theory or the ‘bandwagon’ one. Ehn, which one? Please make up your mind fast before you become irredeemably confused.

  • Oleku

GEJ is a saint compared to the ota baboon. OBJ is the problem of Nigeria and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan inherited the decay he left in the country and is relentlessly trying to reform the country. Nigeria must be transform under GEJ regardless the bandwagon noise emanating from Yoruba press. GEJ carry go.

SENATOR IYABO

  • TRUTH

Until we begin 2 view things objectively instead of from a distorted myopic glass of sectionalism and sentiment, then we can harmonise and champion a common goal. May be our problem is the fact that we do not all speak the same language or practice the same religion. But one thing is common and superceed every other. That is the fact that we all share the same land and space in the same country even in the same world. While some of us are busy wallowing in the ocean of sentiment, our country continues to wither down the drain drastically in such accellerated rate by disgrunted few that if care is not taking even the sectional predication which we seems to allianate ourselves with will not be found by the time we look for it. We say he/she is my brother or sister, while should I castigate of bring him/her to justice or he/she is no my brother/sister while souldn’t I redicule or destroy him/her. Let us remember that what goes around comes around. We should at all times speak against evil and its associates irrespective of whatever. The least I expect from an informed being in this type of matter is to ask the fellow if she/he is guity as accused and provide valid evidence. We can not grow like this when some are milking the whole counrty dry just so that can buy more cars and properties for themselves and their children while millions of Nigerians still suffer from hunger.

  • owudaa

I said it, Jonathan is the Nigrian’s Nelson Mandela who is tronsforming Nigeria into America. Obasenjo trusted him when he(Obasenjo) made all possible ways to make sure he make him as Nageria President. We thank Obasenjo for making posible to have Nelson Mandela in Nigeria. Who are those suppose to make these complain, we or Obasenjo?

  • TRUTH MASTER

As far as the sorry state in which Nigeria is, OBJ is as guilty as Jonathan whom he imposed on the country. But that is not my concern here. My take is that those whom the gods want to destroy, they will first make mad. This administration embarked on the path of madness a long time ago, and only rabidly partisan folks failed to see what is unfolding now. With or without OBJ, this administration will go down in infamy for its failure to lift Nigeria – and OBJ will also have his own date with history!

    • Adoki

Well, in a way, we are all as guilty since 167 million of us sat down and watched one single man impose a president on all of us, don’t you think?

      • TRUTH MASTER

Ha! I am glad the OBJ missive brought you out again, my friend.

Yes, we all have our own share of guilt for being comfortable in our complacency and cynicism (apologies to Pres. Obama), but the Lion’s Share of the blame goes to OBJ, who imposed Jonathan on a docile nation, and Jonathan, who allowed himself to be imposed when he knew he had no clue about leadership and governance.

        • Adoki

Well, it is not too late for us to atone for our own negligence. After all, given the natural progression of things, Obj would likely leave this earth before most of us. It is up to us to rise up and define the destiny of our beloved country. Franky, I am getting really sick of all these talk and no action. We should start seriously mobilising to reclaim our country, using the sheer strength of our number.

          • TRUTH MASTER

I have started….in my own neck of the woods. I believe you are also doing same. Let us all start mobilizing those around us of the need to take our country back. That is a good start. If we do nothing, there may be no country for us all in a short while,. The prognosis is very bad.

And this: When OBJ starts writing like this, the migratory birds may not be too far from the end of their long trip.

  • jojo

Obasanjo wanted almustapha dead because he knows too much about him and the remaining criminals so scare the guy would reveal secrets and wud end up destroying them

  • The Tribesman

Lol….na laff I dey laugh here. Now I get it. Obasanjo does not want GEJ to try another run as President? Did he Obasanjo tell Nigerians that he wanted to run for the sordid third term? Was it the courts that Fred Al Mustapha or was it Jonathan?….hmmmmm time will surely tell all things…

  • MR T

This is Nigerian where all of us belong but we can not tell the sincere truth, what was mentioned by elder statesman has vindicated him. keeping silent until this country collapsed is not the best, other leaders come to the aide of this nation for better for worse this is our home. to be warn is better than war

  • Wähala

    @OBJ: REPECT!!!
The character of a man is judged by his ability to pick himself up and dust himself of dirt… Baba Iyabo has spoken the Truth and dusted himself of the dirt he imposed on the nation. His “regrets” are the points he hi-lighted in his letter. Sounds too true to believe but a certain thief confessed on the cross and Christ forgave him. Nigerians owe OBJ an applause for writing this epic letter… Ndigbo say, the duty of an old man is to talk, while the duty of the child is to listen!
Baba don talk’am correct, the rest is up to the concerned… and, the noose gets tighter! I dey laff ooh!!!

by whatever parameter jonathan is incomparable to obj. is jonathan a man?????????

  • Prince Solomon Eleogu

We must understand that both OBJ AND JONATHAN is not our problem. Our problem is inability of our youth to stand up for their right. Now is time to say no to past and present wasters of our resources.Remember the looted funds is hiding somewhere we must request the funds be returned back to Nigeria first by WESTERN WORLD.Also the sovereign national conference should mean JONATHAN to leave office all Nigerians come together demand as stated above after that agree on acceptable Constitution that will unite us as a Nation. If is not done that way there will be no NIGERIA in 2015.Talking about election is practical waste of time.Nigeria is a time bomb waiting to explode.

when u give a man a car to drive, his first move determines how the drive would end up. Murtala Mohammed achieved what no Nigerian leader ever achieved in 6months, bro, you don’t have to be there for 100yrs to make a point, your first initial moves will point the direction you’re headed… Goodluck is a MONUMENTAL FAILURE AND DISAPPOINTMENT!

  • Mr. Abdin

When somebody is given a trial and he failed the best thing to do is to give way, GEJ has dissapointed his master OBJ, this may likely be the beginning of a naked dance at the Market square, by the allies.

  • Collins Amawuchie

I can see all talking about Jonathan and no body ever remember that Obasanjo sell the whole Nigeria properties to him self in the name of privatization and are we aware that OBJ want 3rd term when he have not achieve any thing after 2 term in governance. I think you people should talk as a good Nigeria and all you where saying is foreign debt and GSM.In even smallest country in Africa are maintaining there national communication company and there national carrier and wNigeriageria maintaining today as there property

  • mkpukpu Michael Nwafor

If this letter is not politically motivated, the content should have remained private between the two.

    • Collins Amawuchie

Yes my brother. No mind all this fool that is talking here.

  • Collins Amawuchie

You people will still remember that all this so called G7 Governors who have been parading them self as good Nigeria have not do any thing in there various state. If Jonathan decided to open up today you will find out that Even OBJ that is talking have a lot of skeleton in his indor. His number 1 corrupt Nigeria. How did he accumulate all this wealth he go after after 8 yrs in Power. We should reason very well before talking in the public.

    • tiwi

who messed your english up like this? Obj or Jona? We need to deal with them oh. i think they are playing a bit of politics. But truly, no point reeling achievements. people can’t see it. ASUU is on a record breaking strike so we have thousands of idle minds at home. unemployment rate is sky high. i don’t care about the railway. for the project cost, how many Nigerians are gainfully employed. same with these road construction. where is all this money going if we don’t meet gainfully employed Nigerians on the project.

There is no reason why Jonathan should not arrest and put this man to jail immediately. OBJ knew that Umaru Yar’Adua was very sick, yet he foisted him on the nation. He knew that Jonathan (and his wife) had corruption cases being investigated by EFCC, yet he made him Yar’Adua’s vice-president with the plan that he would become the President upon the former’s death.

OBJ’s 18-page letter is borne out of self-interest. He also did it to IBB. He is particularly scared of the impending revolution, whether through the gun or ballot box.

    • Obasanjo did not chose Jonathan. It was Yaradua that personally chose Jonathan. Obasanjo gave him the freedom to choose who he could work with.

  • Collins Amawuchie

Taiwo. Talk like a reasonable Nigeria. do you know that all this people that your talking have a lot hiding in there hand they don’t want people to know. are you not in this country when Obasanjo and Atiku are exposing there there with a lot of sham deal the pass through. exposing all the transaction check and others. Tell me in the world where a serving president and the Vice, will be in power and build a University of there own.

  • akpos1

    Nonsense.

    • Oleku

Thank you comrade Akpos1. Lugard cuckoo land ati Nigeria expires in exactly 20days time. Worry not brother cuckoo land Nigeria expires soon.

  • Khinggotti

true! Jonathan the figurehead president. Who is the president of Nigeria? Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, thats ur job. *spits*

  • Tony

OBJ was there two terms and was seeking for third term. During his tenure, so much corruptions was accused from left, right, front, back and centre; all he is accusing GEJ now was same he received from people. Lack of respect for rule of law, so many opposition killings. If OBJ has issues with GEJ, he should better find a way of resolving it than to cause us more pains. Who anointed GEJ? He wants to be God father and its not working for him. Mmsssshhhhheeeeew

  • Al

I salute u obosorajo, there need for you to do more inorder to get rid of these clowns. Just yesterday labaran maku described Gej as the best thing happened to northern nigeria, while okupe is compared GEj and Mandela.

  • domnze

This shows bad faith. I don’t know Jonathan in person and have not met him before at close range. He may not be an orator or a demagogue but he certainly is better than Obasanjo as head of state. This is because I have not seen anything that was functioning well during the eight year rule of Obasanjo that has gone bad in the three years or so of Jonathan. On the contrary, the railway collapsed during OBJ’s rule but it is getting up now. The airports both international and local were an eyesore but remodeling is in full swing. Lagos-Ibadan, Benin-Ore, East-West roads to mention just a few, were abandoned during the eight year tenure of OBJ even though Nigerians were told N300Billion had be spent on roads but these roads are being worked on now. There was no year from 1999 to 2007 that there was no acute fuel shortage all over the country but since 2010 there has been no shortages. Between 1999 and 2007 there were many high profile political assassinations but that has drastically come down in recent years. It was said that over $12 billion was spent on power between 1999 and 2007 but there was little or no improvement on electricity supply but today the situation has significantly improved. Between 1999 and 2007 some people became senators while in detention on accusation of murder of a serving minister but I don’t think such a scenario has replayed itself recently. Some heads of government allowed the national universities to die while they went and built their own private schools and libraries. From 2007 there is less government influence in the determination of election results than used to happen between 1999 and 2007. The bribery scandals involving Halliburton, Siemens and Wilbros happened between 1999 and 2007. Even though the bribe givers have been convicted and punished by their home governments, those who took the bribe whose names have been made available by the overseas countries have been protected by the government. The list can go on and on. I am not defending the Jonathan government neither am I absolving them of corruption. My point is that the present government is not worse than what OBj gave Nigerians during eight long years during which time he attempted to prolong his stay and he should not arrogate to himself the right to choose who succeeds who in government. This country must be restructured if we want change this culture of bad government. He has no moral justification to castigate the present government because he had two distinct opportunities to do what he is preaching now in Nigeria but on each occasion he failed woefully.

  • Collins Amawuchie

Yes my brother you are very correct, don’t mind fools that doesn’t know what to say than making noise in the paper. Freedom of information was pass during Janathan time. People can now express there own feeling with out arrest. Obasanjo regime kills many politicians. Bola Ige, Funsho Williams and so others. How can you compare it with Janathan. the killing is this regime where sponsored by the Northerners to destabilize this government. but with God in his infinity they have already fell.

  • Christopher Uwaka

May l remind you Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo that you selected this clown called Jonathan and you selfishly made it possible for him to become Nigerian President. Mr. Dumbo Jonathan is just following your play book. Both you and Jonathan should go straight to hell.

OBASANJO IS NOT A WITNESS OF TRUTH

I am very surprised that gullible and undiscerning Nigerians are reading and writing comments on this so called Obasanjo’s letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Firstly, the letter is based purely on the malaria delusions of Obasanjo ………. there are no hard and substantiated facts in the letter …….. nothing in the letter links President Goodluck Jonathan with lying, destroying Nigeria and promoting corruption …… I repeat nothing in the letter supports the claim of lying, destroying Nigeria and promoting corruption.

This letter is what you should expect from Journalists working for soft sell magazines …… not from a former President.

But Obasanjo has never been a witness of truth.

Obasanjo is a discredited well know liar ……. this is a man who is still telling Nigerians that he did not request and sponsor bid for a third term ……. even Obasanjo’s children do not believe or trust Obasanjo because they all know he is not trustworthy.

This so called letter is merely an expression of Obasanjo’s frustration that his anointed candidates for Presidency in 2015 (Sule Lamido/Rotimi Amaechi) are not making progress in their attempt to impose themselves.

Please do not waste your time reading Obasanjo’s letter of frustration ……… because Obsanjo has never been a witness of truth.

  • Afam

Please can someone advise this old man called Obasanjo to go and sit down..He was given 8 years without stress to address Nigerian problems but what did he do,he went for failed Third term bid..He obasanjo is bitter and angry that he has been sidelined from parading himself at the corridors of power at any time he wants..On the boko haram ,where was Obasanjo in 2002 when this group started their activities under the very watch eyes of Ali modu sheriff the former governor of Borno state..Ali modu sheriff went further to make Yusuf his special adviser,Were was Obj as commander in chief when all these atrocities were going on? Can Mr Obasanjo tell us what happened to NITEL,NIGERIA AIRWAYS ,NIGERIAN PORT AUTHORITY? Can MR obasanjo tell us what happened to haliburton scandal, seimens scandal, the Abacha returned loots? Etc..He who lives in a glass house should not throw stone..He who wants equity should come with a clean hand…

    O pari. Jonathan is finished.

TIME TO COME TOGETHER AND LIBERATE NIGERIA IS NOW

A vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 is surely a vote for the liberation of Nigeria.

I make bold to say that if by God’s grace President Goodluck Jonathan is re-elected in 2015 …… Nigeria would have been liberated from the forces and tiny clique that has hindered her progress since independence in 1960.

Presently, the most powerful arm of the tiny clique as at today is the Obasanjo group made up of powerful and influential businessmen, politicians and traditional rulers. Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Bukola SARAKI are members of this arm of the clique.

They are very powerful and they have sucked Nigeria dry with only bones left.

This particular group met in Dutse, Jigawa State on May 29, 2013 and publicly anointed their own Sule Lamido & Rotimi Amaechi as President and Vice President in 2015.

The other arms of the tiny clique include the IBB group, the Atiku group, the Buhari group and newcomers …. the Bola Tinubu vampire group. These other arms are not as powerful as the Obasanjo group though they are all part of the tiny clique.

These groups are all part of a tiny clique of destroyers that have recklessly mismanaged Nigeria since independence. They will never allow Nigeria to advance.

One thing about this tiny clique is that they consistently decide and chose one from among themselves as President for Nigeria.

Their last choice for Nigeria is former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

President Goodluck Jonathan is not their willful choice for President.

He got there and became President by an act of God which they could not avoid and which came as a result of their own unexpected miscalculation.

For this reason, they are now fighting very hard to get him out of the way so that they can continue their system of selecting one of their own and type as President.

By the grace of God they will not succeed this time no matter how hard they try. A thousand letters from Obasanjo will not do them any good and will not make them victorious.

I am convinced that God has come to deliver Nigeria and there is nothing they can do about it.

Sooner than later they will come to realize that they belong to history and to the shameful past of Nigeria.

I urge Nigerians to arise and fight for the liberation of Nigeria by posting unwavering support for President Goodluck Jonathan who is presently under intense and unjustified attack from these vicious groups that do not wish Nigeria well.

Nigerians must fight with all their strength ….. this may be the last fight before freedom dawns.

    • Rodney

Reno Omokri-It took you sometime to put this together. You guys must be having a kitchen cabinet meeting. So is this the face saving strategy-outcome of your meeting in Aso Rock? Omokri is this what Goodluck Jonathan asked you to come and tell us? Just asking.

Mr Jonathan’s dismal outing as Nigeria’s President has made the Obasanjo
era look golden, to the extent that Obasanjo himself could put up this
letter of which he would have been most fitting addressee just a few
years ago. The underwhelmingness of Mr Jonathan’s performance has been
colossal, and it is nothing to joyful about. Neither is Obasanjo’s
outburst anything to cheer about. Baboons and monkeys may be at their
games again even when they appear to be quarrelling. How I wish that
these simians would be cast into where they belong for good.

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo,is a detribalized, patriotic, dedicated fearless and straight-talker-former Nigerian leader. It is undoubtfull that Chief Obasanjo is really highly regretting for picking president Jonathan from Bayelsa State and making him the vice president to the late president Umaru Musa Yar’dua, who was a far more different and opposite of the kind of a leader
bereft of transparency, trust, focus, competency and capability quality stature.
President Jonathan is a symbol of corruption practices in governance, promotes ethnic/tribal/religion sentiment, led a Christian pilgrimage delegation to Israel-like a arch-bishop of
    Nigeria.
There are various massive corruption practices indictment cases against his aviation minister Stella Oduah in the ten airports none value for the massive public funds in billions of naira expended and the illegal purchased-BMW-760-armoured-bullet-proof two cars.
Also, president Jonathan petroleum minister Diezani Alison Madueke, indictment in various oil-scam,purchased of a mansion in downtown,Vienna,Austria,fuel-subsidy scam,,oil field allocation scam,NNPC embezzlement scam,Switzerland-vitol & Trafugura-scam which resulted to Nigeria loss of S6.8 billion dollars.
Aviation sector massive ten-airports renovations scandal running to billions of naira, illegal purchase of armoured-bullet-proof-BMW 760 cars in which Ms Stella Oduah, the minister of aviation was indicted.
President Obasanjo was right with detail information about numerous misdeed and mis-steps taken by president Ebele Jonathan which is creating disunity among Nigerian people and president Jonathan using a known accuse of murder to hire and train personal soldiers to fight against his political enemies in 2015.Former president Obasanjo took a correct timely action with the letter he wrote accusing president Jonathan of ineptitude, cluelessness and non-performance,neglecting to fight corruption practices and promoting disunity among Nigerians.

    • Collins Amawuchie

So why did he want 3rd term if his straight? I think your playing Joker here .

      • Degkwe

When you look at people like GEJ, Atiku, Tinubu, Buhari etc. It becomes clear why that man should have been given a 3rd term. Development stopped after he passed on power. The man tried his best to ensure continuity of the progress he was making but unfortunately things took a different turn.

  • Degkwe

Obj just said it all. It would be wise for GEJ to listen to the man and not let his ego push him into becoming an enemy of the state.

Lack of leadership is destroying Nigeria slowly. When you see leaders that are clueless, you begin to wonder what the hell is going on in Nigeria. When a leader is not clean, what do you expect from the people below. It is about time that we think deep and change what is going on in Nigeria. Time is going fast. Whether you like or dislike Obasanjo, we should all agree that he wrote the letter in the national interest and for the love of his country.

  • Etomi

Obasanjo….idiot….coup plotter….You are very lucky that Abacha didn’t end up killing you for this kind of attitude of Pot calling kettle black! we have not forgotten the corruption ring you ran with your daughter over supply of medical equipment to federal health institutions….Today you are the richest man in Africa, haven acquired hectares upon hectares of land for your harm in Cross River State and else where…so old hag shut the fuck up!!!!!!

  • Honest

Obasanjo during your regime, bribe money in ghana-must-go bags were paraded in NTA television which the legislators said were given to them by the executive to impeach their speaker. The matter died just like that, nothing was heard about it until you left office. Why not tell Nigerians why you bribed the national assembly. GEJ merely graduated from the school of corruption where you are the chancellor.

  • disqus_xV18HCrONC

I don’t think this letter is true because OBJ accused Jonathan of using ‘carrot and stick’ approach in tackling boko haram about a year ago but the purported letter says the opposite. Nigerians should be very careful.

  • KingTut

    The kingmaker got burned?…lmao

Obasanjo became the president (in uniform) when he was in his thirties after a coup and the assassination of a “promising” Murtala Muhammed.
Decades later he became a civilian president and circumstantially a successful and RICH one!!!

In my opinion what he should be doing now is assist the current president to govern better for the good of the people of Nigeria. The letter is all about politicking.
The current situation in Nigeria should not be about Obasanjo or Jonathan but what could be done to improve the lives of every Nigerian!!!

  • vincentumenyiora

[Mr.

“I have passed the stage of being flattered, intimidated, threatened, frightened, induced or bought… Death is the end of all human beings and may it come when God wills it to come.”]

Just to say that it is unfortunate that we have come to this at the time the World leaders have only just witnessed what may well be regarded as a ‘New page’ to be turned in South Africa about African political leadership and the social and economic problems they have before them to solve! It is sad but again as I said it already much earlier, the problems in Nigeria is multifaceted and devolves to that: Who do you tell in Nigeria and he/ she is ready to act early! OBJ is one of those who have copy of my first publication titled: “Nigeria – survival or disintegration!” and another “How to get at your government and influence it!” with 752 pages delivered to his aides in 2005 by hand at ABUJA followed by other publications which contain how to deal with corruption in Nigeria! United Nation’s Political Division not only has copy of this particular publication but urged me to re-submit it to UN through Nigerian government (Authorities) so that they can work on it! I have tried in the past to do this and to call the attention of Nigerian authority to no avail, folks! It will amaze you to learn also that I have handed in solution for the political leadership to save Nigeria both cost and lives but up to this stage nobody has dared to call and say; What is it that you say is the solutions for Nigeria and we are reading from OBJ in this manner surprisingly after Nelson Madela’s interment Assembly only yesterday! And we saw OBJ at the occasion his face looked very tensed, it must be said – he was not cheerful, folks; so it is not surprising – no wonder, reading from him in this manner!

What it is: those in the Nigerian corridors of power have all got it wrong and what can you say more other than we shall now wait and see what next about the allegations! You will not believe this, I gave them solutions for the corruption and about the debauchery going on in Nigeria and till date nobody has said anything about the feelers sent out to them! What about the Option A-4 and its formula INEC is using for the elections now in the country – the tabulations (recorded tables) and the on-the-spot declaration of results, all contained in my publication – in fact, in the correspondences (letters) sent to them at the time! You’ll think they will invite the contributor as part member of the Commission but it has not happened and somebody am told may have claimed the copyright and could have been paid some funds for it! Tell you something, it is all happening in Nigeria so lets keep praying for some salvation to come – a compatible solutions to emerge in the situation where we are now!

I am like that child crying and pointing finger to a direction you probably have read me all these days/ years – tell the truth and be free, as they say it in my native parlance, folks! Think about the time the solutions were handed in including the Option A-4 – 1992 December, INEC’s Chairman and the Commissioners are now ravelling in, what parody they made of the whole ideas and we have serious problems in the country and they want to be rated like Nelson Mandela – Na lie, folks! What afre we talking about did OBJ not hand over Bakassi to Cameroon and Bp Shell and they asked Nigerians to vacate the zone – what are we on about is it one or two – there are myriads of mistakes and failures and OBJ talks of cacophony! Oma seoo Nigeria – TAKU!

They should look up or study my Zoning solution for political leadership for Nigeria whatever you think the present Administration is not doing correctly – after all OBJ wanted Third-term and went about it in Nigerian way but did not succeed – what my people say is: Owor sili awo ibeya wokom! They should try and comprehend my leadership solution – I said it that Nigeria is in a QUANDARY afflicting everybody now it appears, folks! Muna kanlo n ‘kwu gabadeya gaskya ne nike faru!

  • Frank

Alas! Baba has seen the light. Where are the Ekwuemes, the Gowons, the Abdulsalamis etc….The so called Nigerian statesmen? History and posterity would not forget this decay of our great nation but would not forgive your silence. Nigeria has never been lucky when it comes to leadership .is now getting worse year after year and this Jonathan administration seem to have institutionalised corruption and tribalism. the country is drifting with myriad of problems from kidnapping, terrorism, baby- factories proliferations , ritualism, cultism, piracies and the president is so relax in fact, oblivion of most of these societal -ills . there are revelations here and there about massive corruptions but no convictions and no arrest has been made while sycophants are rewarded with undeserved titles /post .

  • Maigari

We have gone through a very similar charade bck in 2011. Remember the I-maymay not- facade of the Presidnt then? Unfotunately the Execuitv Govrnors sold out to JEG because they were seeking a second term. Now the chicken have come home to roost but the perching log is no longer there.

  • kpof_kpof_man

Baba OBJ, you looked into the cookie jar and brought out the bad one. Now you tell us the cookie is bad. Jonathan is your baby. We hold you responsible. Please find something else to do with your time. GEJ would not be president in 2015 whether he contests or not.

  • Comfortkay

Am not a big fan of Baba OBJ but there is a lot of things OBJ did for Nigeria, when he took over in 1999 he met only 1,50 Billon dollars in foreign reserve and he left office with Nigeria having 67 Billion Dollars foreign reserves.
OBJ paid 20 Billion to Paris and London Club and today Nigeria is making maoney from Oil sales but our current government continues to borrow. Whee is the money, there is no political will to address the issue of corruption, any one who doesnt agree should go and hang himself up.

    • Tunji

You got it right. I couldn’t agree more.

  • G

We know why Know why OBJ is angry, becus he thinks he put Mr president Good luck Jonathan on the seat, but he is forgetting he is good luck and God put him there to serve, and as an instrument to serve, obj should be ashamed and after his coup in PDP with the 7 governors has failed and also after losing his good friend and close ally ( the late ondo governor ) ,obj should learn the virtues of Mandela by being constructive not being destructive, and as the saying goes that it is said and it is true, that God loves us and gives us love not becus we deserve but becus it is Gods nature to allows love us, and obj should try as much as possible to love Nigeria becus Nigeria has done so much for him as we’ll as the Nigerians who have also done their part. He is telling Jonathan how to rule a country when he can’t manage bells university where there was no light and water for the students and they where sent home after the protest by the students for the unavailability of resources. Obansanjo should shape Nigeria and not kill it for personal interests.

  • Progressive Nigerian

The end will justify the actual view if what Obasanjo is saying iis in the interest of Nigerians or he’s agitating for power to go back to North. Nigerians are not fools.. Jonathan has a mandate and he was elected to serve us.. Ppl should stop intimadating Mr President.. Enough of all this jabbs and thrash. Premium times is high time you guys write stories that anchor on truth and decency enough of falsehood all in the name of writng news. Anyway, Many Nigerians are ignorance and I pray that our youths should seek for truth rather than unscrupulous writers. God bless Nigeria/ns

@Auwal… When you come to Social media, u don’t need to be insultive.. What am expecting from you is issue based argument. Am not accusing OBJ. I only asked if only what he wrote was actually in the interest of Nigerians.. Also, I emphasise much on Jonathan’s Presidency that Ppl should allow him to deliver on his work. This is 2013 and he has spent 2years which remains 2 years.. So ppl you judge him in 2015…. Enough is Enough. Sent from my BlackBerry wireless device from MTN

OBJ is correct in this letter whether himself is corrupt or not. If we start waiting for a non- corrupt Nigerian to write this type of letter or fight this evil, we may wait forever because most of our leaders are extremely corrupt.
Every right thinking Nigerians should join hands with OBJ to fight this war against corruption and the human agents behind it without sentiment because accusation and counter accusation cannot solve the problem but aggravate it.
Nigerians should stand up and liberate themselves from this cabal in evil axis. Their traces and stronghold must be utterly destroyed. Nigeria must be free and enjoy freedom and not doom.

Even when IBB criticized Obj he (obj) called him a fool. Obj believe that he is the only person that is qualify to determine how this country is being run. He is either the only person to rule or must determine the person to be president. How can a letter for the president finds its way to the media. Obj should have called press conference instead of this nonsense. I am even surprised that a letter that was dated 2 December was carrying information about Sanusi letter to presidency about non remittance of oil receipts by NNPC which was written yesterday.
Obj did more damage to PDP than Jonathan. He illegally suspended his vice and use the then chairman Ahamadu Ali to deregister pdp members that did not align with him.
The bad image that pdp is struggling to clear today was created by obj.

THE MOST DANGEROUS IDEA IN OBASANJO’S DUBIOUS LETTER

I am very convinced that the most dangerous idea in Obasanjo’s dubious letter is his campaign that President Goodluck Jonathan should do just one term as President and handover to the born-to-ruin Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani who believe that Nigeria is their private property and that they alone are born-to-rule Nigeria forever.

Why do I say it is the most dangerous idea?

    1. It is a violation of the Nigerian constitution which grants the President the right to vote and be voted for in 2015.
    2. It is also an idea that is strange to the Nigerian constitution which allows the President to run for a second term in 2015
    3. Obasanjo and his vicious gang that has held Nigeria hostage since independence are not telling us why the President should serve for only one term ……. why the constitutional rights of the President must be abridged. Nigerians need to know and they must tell us. It is not enough to say that the President should serve for only one term contrary to constitutional stipulations …. they must tell us why. Is the President an inferior Nigerian?

Is there another constitution in Nigeria that stipulates that a President should serve for only one term? Obasanjo and his vicious gang should produce that constitution if they have it.

The idea that President Goodluck Jonathan should serve for only one term is a very dangerous idea because it has no constitutional backing and it is not within the framework of the Nigerian constitution.

True, President Goodluck Jonathan strongly believes in one-term of six years for all elected officers and he actually took steps to seek a constitutional cover and framework for one term of six years which was not granted by the National Assembly.

The point must be made that whether we talk of one term or two terms ……….. there must a proper constitutional cover for that which is operative at any point in time …….. it cannot be done arbitrarily to suit the whims and caprices of a narrow group of ethno-religious Caliphs who have developed an unquenchable appetite to reap where they did not so.

The idea that President Goodluck Jonathan should serve for only one term violates the Nigerian constitution and it is offensive to Nigerians.

I am of the view that even of all Nigerians including President Goodluck himself insists that it must be one term …….. that one term must be covered and operated within a constitutional framework.

Any thing that is outside a constitutional framework is a very dangerous idea and must be discarded especially for a matter as sensitive and more so a matter that is properly covered by the existing Nigerian constitution.

Be objective in your thinking please, OBJ is right by showing concern to what is happening now, whether himself is corrupt or not, We should be concern with fight this war against corruption and agents behind it
without sentiment be it religious or tribal as you are doing now, because accusation and counter accusation by the cannot solve
the problem but aggravate it. Please be on side of the truth irrespective of who ever is at head.

  • Cambota

I personally appreciate OBJ’s open letter to d president GEJ. Can OBJ stand tall and tell Nigerians his 8 yrs in power was corrupt free. OBJ is complaining cos GEJ outsmart his (OBJ) corrupt index.

  • Delson

Only the people of substance would understand OBJ concern . I have seen some posts supporting the division of Nigeria . How would that help Nigerians ? Some other developed countries are falling their borders for the good interests of their citizens . These countries are helping each other to improve their standards of living. From my own point of view dividing Nigeria is not the solution to our present problems.

Obj is not good , but can someone tell me who can be compared to him from all our past leaders? Nigeria really needs help. 2015 would a memorable year for we Nigerians . It is either we have a breakthrough or we would have more problems than what we are having now.

If Obasanjo has concerns, do you register it by blackmail? His method shows it is not so much concern as it PDP’s internal political crisis in which his camp has lost in the power chess game!!!

Never seen any one more disgusting than Obasanjo. Jonathan refused to probe his horrible administration of corruption and sundry malfeasance, but he feels he has a duty to destroy him. It has not been lost on us the political killing aplenty during his administration that claimed many lives including that of Bola Ige; the corruption ring he ran with his daughter Iyabo that saw billions of Naira devoted to equipping health institutions in the country diverted to god-knows-where leaving all federal hospitals porous till date; the electoral fraud he perpetrated which saw the southwest muscled into PDP against its will, save Lagos of Tinubu. We even remember the evil man’s ignoble third term bid to our greatest dismay; the seizing of the microphone from Dr. Bala Usman on the orders of Obasanjo on a certain occasion and few months following we heard Usman was dead!; the innumerable plane crashes during his regime, which Tunde Bakare associated with the necromancy of Obasanjo; his coup against Abacha that landed him in jail in which he could have died but for the graces of IBB that brought him to power in 1999…so so many…One day a bold president will rise up against Obasanjo and probe his monstrous regime to the delight of many Nigerians. Enough of his notorious grandstanding gambit. This action of his is treasonable to state the least, and smacks of the rants of a terribly frustrated Obasanjo who once thought that he was PDP and PDP was he. Today, however, the game has changed, power has changed hands to his greatest disbelieve. Quietly weak GEJ has reduced to irrelevance! Could any former Nigerian leader have done such a thing as Obasanjo is doing now and gotten away with it? He would have hounded such a person to death!!!! We remember the death of Chima Ubani with resignation, in this regard. A man that spoke with a terrible slur and brought Nigeria to the nadir. That is Obasanjo!!!! There is the council of state meeting, and sundry other meetings instituted by the constitution in which former presidents of the country meet periodically. Doesn’t OBJ have direct access to GEJ? Why didn’t Obasanjo direct his worries to Jonathan like a statement would decently do? Is he the only former president alive? Are the likes of SHAGARI, IBB, GOWON, SHONEKAN dead? Those are decent men…not the power monger like OBJ. What is all this about if not cheap blackmail…OBJ was the grand sponsor of the rebel governors in PDP. BUT He has failed woefully and his men have been flushed out dishonorably from the PDP. He also lost the BOT seat, a position he felt was his exclusive preserve for life, when events and the new chess-game forced him to resign, etc. He has been reduced to irrelevance permanently. And now he feels he can bedraggle and malign the president. Anybody can bandy allegations about..It remains mere allegations. Yet Obasanjo did more terrible things that dragged the country to the precipice like his third term bid, the brazen rigging of elections under him, etc, yet Nigeria did not collapse. ANY WONDER DIM IKEMBA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU CANVASSED THAT OBASANJO SHOULD BE TIED TO THE STAKES LIKE THE LATE ARMED ROBBERS ANINI AND OSUNBOR AND SHOT LIKE A COMMON CRIMINAL. Enough said, at least for now….

    Mani kay! Hw far?

  • Garba Abubakar Umar

I have never been one to agree with OBASANJO because of what he did to this part of the country the NORTH. What BABA must do now is to come out with solution to this colosal failure called JEG.

  • Aisha Mahmud

Mani kay and co, hw far now?

Rather than spend time analysing OBJ’s letter, to the point of quarrelling, and almost beating ourselves up, why don’t we take the time and look at the critical issues, and see how we ourselves can work towards making a change in our country. This letter is not about ethnicity, religion, or what have you – WE have to seriously look inwards to see how we arrived at this point in the life of our nation, and see how we can do our own bit to transform the way things are.

  • Bejim

The recent letter reminds of Achebe’s letter to this same Obasanjo
accusing him of complicity in the fiefdomization of Anambra State using
his minions. Obasanjo’s letter, regardless of its truth value,
strenghtens the impression that he believes himself exempt from the
standards that he prescribes to others.

  • Ikenga

I do not accept in any form that President Jonathan of Nigeria has failed. Nigerian rulers have over the years entrenched impunity, corruption, insensitivity, lies, selfishness and hatred into the psyche of the people.

Only those who refuse to be dragged into these evils are branded sluggish. This name-tag by the former president is a realization that with the incumbent president is going, the people will soon see the difference between civility and servility, the people will soon see the difference between the moderate action and fanaticism, the difference between hypocrisy and straightforwardness.

Nigerians ought to understand that it is because the Jonathan administration chose to expose corruption that people now see corruption. CORRUPTION had held sway in Nigeria since the overthrow of Shagari but it was tightly closed from the people by same people who now shout.

Nigerians need to call on Babangida, Buhari and Obasanjo to render account of their stewardship in Nigeria before we can listen to whatever they want us to see that did not exist when they were ruling. Again, the trio should let Nigerians know what advice they had proffered to Jonathan before running to the press with their letter.

It is a known fact that THIEVES easily call anyone who despises their action names

I WILL NOT CONTEST 2015 ELECTIONS – Jonathan
on february 01, 2011 at 1:41 am in news
    BY DANIEL IDONOR
ANKARA, TURKEY — President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said he has no ambition to stay in office beyond 2015, assuring Nigerians in Diaspora that while he will not contest the 2015 election, he will ensure that this year’s election is free and fair.
The President promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sectors of the economy — security, power, education, road, health amongst others.
“Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.”
Jonathan said this while interacting with Nigerians mainly diplomats working in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA, and the African Union, AU, in Addis-Ababa.
While fielding questions from those present at the interactive session on whether Nigerians abroad will vote, Jonathan said: “I would have loved that the Nigerians in Diaspora vote this year but to be frank with you, that is going to be difficult now. Presently, the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year Nigerians in Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it by 2015 even though I will not be running for election.”
On the issue of security, Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and were being prosecuted. He, however, said he ordered the release of the car dealers because they were just businessmen who could not have known that the vehicles were to be used for such heinous crime.
On education, the President said, the nine new approved universities were to be specialised and to be headed by at least three Nigerians experts in Diaspora.
On the concerns raised of having a database of Nigerian experts in Diaspora, President Jonathan assured that he was working on creating a forum for interaction between them and government and also develop a database, where experts needed to address the various challenges of the economy will be drawn. He hinted that this was why the Diaspora Commission was being set up as the bill was already before the National Assembly.
The President also disclosed that the government is looking towards reviewing the country’s foreign policy to ensure that Nigeria gets maximum benefit from its roles and contributions to international organizations like the AU, UN and ECOWAS.
He lamented that right now Nigeria’s contributions were not being recognized adding that “there is need for Nigeria to have something in return for our investments. We are investing so much but it is not being noticed and there is need to reverse that trend.
On the concerns about road network and transportation in the country, President Jonathan assured that the railway system will be revamp because presently heavy duty vehicles were destroying the roads. “Why we cannot have continuous road maintenance for now because no contractor wants to go into it because of the continuous pressure on the road by heavy duty vehicles. That is why we are working to ensure that we revamp the rail”.
The President also assured that Nigerians working in international organization and institutions would be issued diplomatic passports. He directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia to submit the list of those qualified within the shortest possible time to him.
On the 35 per cent affirmative action implementation and the domestication of protocols signed, he assured that he will present before the National Assembly within the shortest possible time.

Well said General Obasanjo (OBJ). It is instructive that you OBJ created this demon that has hunted all Nigerians all this while and apparently is only just beginning to hunt you now. Nigeria is bleeding from the great stab wound delivered her by OBJ as a punishment for scuttling his third term bid; even when the iconic Mandela advised him against it, and he was able to even say so. Shame! I will never insult OBJ because a people get the kind of leaders they deserve; OBJ is indeed a great leader fit for the mindset of our people who see black and call it black. OBJ imposed Yar’ Adua and Jonathan on Nigerians to punish us. He expected to be immune to it, but today the fire he ignited is burning him a little and Jonathan has turned our being a monster rather than the stooge OBJ envisaged or planned. A proverb says that if you neglect a baby mouse it will rip open a big bag. OBJ planted Jonathan via corruption – rigging of elections which late Yar’ Adua admitted. An Igbo adage says that “a child sent for robbery by his father will break the door with his foot.” St. Jonathan is surely doing a lot better than his father OBJ as expected, else he would be a failure and disappointment. Obasanjo should first confess and apologise to Nigerians for his sins before having the temerity to minister unto the same people he dekamperised.
