The deceased family wrote to the court to withdraw the charges.
An Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday discharged a civil servant, Jude Nnakenyi, 28, who allegedly caused death by dangerous driving.
Mr. Nnakenyi of No 22, D Close, Festac, Lagos, was tried for causing the death of one Michael Ejembi by dangerous driving.
The trial Chief Magistrate, Fati Tafida, struck out the case and discharged the accused following a formal application by the family of the deceased to withdraw the matter.
Ms. Tafida said the letter of withdrawal of case by the deceased family indicated that both families had successfully resolved the matter.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Philip Apollos, had alleged that the accused drove a Kia Salon car with registration number AE 457 HWL in a dangerous manner.
“Nnakenyi drove recklessly on Magaji Road, Jabi, Abuja, on April 28 at about 10 a.m. and ran into an unregistered Jincheng motorcycle driven by Ejembi, making him sustain severe head injury,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the victim later died at Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja.
