NEMA deploys relief materials, personnel to Baga

The Agency said it has sent relief and medical materials to Baga.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said it has deployed a team of its officers and stakeholders to provide medical and relief assistance to victims of the Baga killings in Borno State.

Over 185 people were killed and thousands displaced over the weekend during clashes between soldiers and insurgents.

In a statement by the NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, the Director General of the Agency, Muhammad Sani Sidi, said President Goodluck Jonathan directed the Agency to urgently provide immediate succour to the people. He said the Agency has sent a team led by its Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Charles Otegbade, to Baga with necessary medical assistance as well as food items to cater for the displaced persons that are now taking refuge in various camps.

“The team has already arrived Borno and is working together with the Borno State Government,” the statement said.
