Plateau villagers blocked arrest of Kogom attackers – STF

STF said locals stopped troops from coming to the scene of Killings in Jos

The Special Task-force, STF, in Plateau State, said residents of Kogom Village prevented its officers from intervening promptly when gunmen attacked the village.

On Thursday night, gunmen reportedly dressed in military uniform, attacked Kogom Village of Vwang District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing 10 people.

Survivors of the incident said the residents made several calls to the emergency numbers put out by the STF, yet no one came to their rescue.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Kingsley Egbo, who is standing in for the STF media officer, the task force said the locals foiled its rescue attempts.

“Efforts by the STF troops and police to gain access to the scene with a view to combing the area was foiled by the locals.

“The locals attacked and assaulted the security team,” Mr. Egbo said.

He said that the STF has now barricaded all exits routes to the affected area.

“All escape routes linked to the general area have been sealed,” Mr. Egbo said.

Some of the residents have accused the STF of complicity in the attack and have called for the disbandment of the task force.
