Gunmen kill 4, injure 7 in Plateau

The Plateau Police confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the crime.

 
Gunmen, Sunday, opened fire at a group of people drinking local beer, called Burukutu, at a relaxation spot in Plateau State killing four people.

The incident happened at Gindin Akwati in Gashish District of Barikin Ladi Local Government of the State.

The spokesperson of the state command of the Nigerian Police Force, Abuh Emmanuel, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, also said seven other persons were wounded in the attack and they are currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Plateau.

“The notice of the sad incident got to us in the early hours of Monday; one Ali Iliya of Ex land village of Gashe Village lodged a report at the police station at Barkin Ladi that, there was an attack in a drinking spot,” Mr. Emmanuel said adding that “men of the state police command has since swung into action but before they got there the assailants had escaped”.

An eye witness who spoke with our correspondent said the gunmen, numbering about five, stormed the local drinking spot late on Sunday and opened fire on the people there, killing four on the spot.

The Police spokesperson said no group has claimed responsibility for the attack and that no arrest has also been made. He however said full investigations into the act has commenced, and pledged that those behind the deadly act will be arrested and made to face justice.

Mr. Emmanuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, appealed to residents of the area as well as other Plateau residents to embrace the peace process being initiated by government at all levels.

Barkin Ladi LGA was where a Senator and a State Assembly member, Gyang Dantong and Gyang Fulani, lost their lives while attending the funeral of over 50 people who were killed in an attack last July.
