Another Senator linked to Boko Haram

The JTF said it killed a top commander of the insurgent group and arrested another within two days.

Security forces in Maiduguri said they have made a huge haul in their campaign against the Boko Haram sect, arresting a top sect leader, Shuaibu Mohammed Bama, and linking him to “a serving senator’s house along Damboa Road, GRA Maiduguri.”

The Joint Task Force, JTF, in the Borno capital which said Mr. Bama was arrested on Thursday at about 11a.m, described him as “a high profile Boko Haram Commander who has been on the list of wanted terrorists operating between Bama and Maiduguri.”

Senator Ahmed Zanna

The Task Force offered nothing but vague suggestions regarding the “serving senator” which it refused to name but independent findings and security sources in Borno have told PREMIUM TIMES that the unnamed senator is Ahmed Khalifa Zanna.

Mr. Zanna was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to represent Borno Central in the National Assembly. The 57-year-old politician defeated the former governor of the state, and sworn enemy of the Boko Haram, Ali Modu Sheriff, to emerge senator. The insurgent group has privately and publicly accused Mr. Sheriff of being one of the masterminds of the unrest in Maiduguri and has called for his prosecution.

Mr. Zanna will not be the first Borno PDP Senator to be linked with the Boko Haram. Another senator, Mohammed Ndume, was arrested by security operatives for having alleged link and sponsoring the insurgent group. He is currently being prosecuted.

Sources in Maiduguri confirmed that Mr. Ndume and Mr. Zanna each have a house in Damboa Road, an area where many Maiduguri elites also have homes.

A resident of Maiduguri said though Mr. Ndume’s house is more popular in the area, his colleague also has a house there.

“Everybody in Maiduguri knows that Ndume has a house in Damboa, maybe because of the type of person he is. But Senator Ahmed lives there too,” the resident, who did not want his name mentioned for security reasons, said.

PREMIUM TIMES also learnt that Mr. Zanna is from Bama Local Government Area of the State; same as the arrested alleged Boko Haram leader.

It is however not clear if Mr. Zanna truly has a relationship with the Boko Haram as multiple sources in Maiduguri said even Mr. Ndume, who is being prosecuted, has no direct relationship with the Boko Haram.

Efforts to get the Senate spokesperson, Eyinnaya Abaribe, to comment on the latest development were unsuccessful as Mr. Abaribe’s phone was switched off.

The Senate had declared its support for Mr. Ndume despite his alleged link with the Boko Haram and his prosecution.

The Gwange attacks

The JTF also said that it killed another commander of the Boko Haram in Maiduguri on Friday.

The Task Force said Bakura Kulima, popularly called Bin Walid, was killed “during an exchange of fire with troops.”

The security forces had gone to conduct what it referred to as a “follow up operation,” in the Gwange area of Maiduguri. The operation was a follow-up to attacks allegedly launched by the Boko Haram group. The JTF, which claimed it repelled the attacks, had claimed that 24 insurgents were killed while no civilian or security operative was killed.

Residents of the area however told PREMIUM TIMES that dozens of residents of the area and some soldiers were also killed in the attack which occurred on Monday night.

After the “follow up” operation on Friday, the Task Force said it recovered “2 AK 47 Rifles, 55 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, (and) large quantity of Improvised Explosive Device materials.”

Another Chinese feared killed

Reports from Maiduguri also indicate that another Chinese working for a construction company in Maiduguri has been killed. The victim was shot along Gidan Madara close to a bridge being constructed by the company.

The Joint Task Force had in a statement last week confirmed the killing of two Chinese construction workers who were shot while shopping at a market.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the killings, they are believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram members.

This is another fabrication by the JTF. Am not surprised especially in viw of the Senator’s position on the attrocities of the JTF during a recent BBC Hausa program featuring listeners and a spokesperson of the JTF in Maiduguri

Nigeria is not a Country but a Continent. The days of my blessed peoples of the SS & SE mingling in this useless Continent of Nigeria are surely numbered. We’re just waiting for Jona to complete his eight max years then the whole of Continent Nigeria will understand what we mean. They will probably also realize, that the bombs Boko Haram have been detonating are indeed very very cheap bombs.

Long live the Republic of The South South & South East

      akpos,
we in the south south have not told you the Biafra east that we are the same. akpos, we south south still remember the biafra antics in the civil war where we in the south south were made to be underdogs of the igbos. so we in the south south will take our own decision INDEPENDENT of igbo biafra. please the IGBOS should NOT force us into their own personal predilections with nigeria. we are not igbos please. do not mask things again. talk about igbos when you are talking. we will talk about south south when we are talking. let each group state their own claims. i just do not like this thing where some forced similarity between igbo and south south is imposed on us. and we know this is about the oil. igbo don get their own oil too. so let them carry their cross. igbo is not south south , and south south is not igbo-period.

James & George, I have said it before and I say it again, Continent Nigeria is (not like) a psychiatric hospital. This wouldn’t have been much problem except for the weirdness of this ‘psycho’ hospital. The strangeness stems from the fact that some of the Doctors writing prescriptions for the inmates are themselves bonafide patients on highly demented wards. God help any inmate who is so unfortunate to receive prescriptions from such patient-Doctors…the inmates will therefore never get healed. Sadly or otherwise, young boys like u – James & George and most likely your parents, are some of these patient-Doctors.

Look at the Map of Continent Nigeria properly and ask yourself which area represents SS & SE of the Continent. Your ignorance of simple geographical compass is part of the state of your health. I do not intend to educate you on that.

akpos1 is a first class chief from the core Niger Delta. The name akpos is not a coinage neither an ‘aka’. If you a little bit intelligent, u wud have realized where that name originates from in the Continent we love to call a Country.

In any case, my great people of the SS & SE need no support from any County in Nigeria to prosecute our widely known agenda. I hope u are old enough to know about Isaac Adaka Boro – Who declared the South South independent state even before Biafra. You might also reflect on the galantry of the Generals – Ateke Tom, Dokubo Asari, Tompolo, Boy Loaf etc

Again, I remind you of the Great Bendel & Other SS boys who with Gideon Orkar rattled IBB and smoked him through the Obalende Cementry in April 1990. Among them were Major (now Professor Mukoro), Col Nyiam, Major Edosa, etc.

As these brave men struck the prostrating & cowardly Yoruba that you (James & George) are went under their beds. Imagine the Hausa Fulani dominating the continent from your backyard. COWARDS.

Surely the Ibo theory & fear of their alliance with the rich SS & SE explains the deep rooted fear of all the Countries in Nigeria, especially the Yoruba Country . Ironically, this alliance is inevitable.

        I hope you have learned.
Long live the Peoples Republic of The South South & South East

Moronic Akpos, why wait for 8 years Jonathans time to run out? Why don’t you go your way now? Then you will realize the beauty of Nigeria, even with our challenges made worse by a very weak and vision-less leadership.

      akpos1,
I can see the desperation. Your desperation is bordering on your autobiographical metaphors and allusions. Every available thing has to be latched on as survival tool. I think you started with the metaphor of a psychiatric hospital and the allusion to illness. Anyone who reads what you have posted here ( we used to have them thru similar psychiatric cases such as KenMani, mpitikwelu_na_Ugwu_Awusa who obviously transformed after he was unmasked) will definitely agree with you about SICKNESS as metaphor with respect to people who reflect your posts and posts like yours. Desperation has reached a pitch point that, and it has made you come out into the open as personal symbols of your metaphors and allusions. In other words, you just exhibited self as image of your metaphors and allusions. Even your language shows that. It bristles with that metaphor of PSYCHIATRIC SICKNESS you allude to. Now take this, if (i) just for argumentative purposes we take what you have posted here is representative of the intellectual and moral capacity of a black man and what he or she can do then the black man is doomed-he cant make it, he cant survive it. However, the consolation is that your state of mind which you correctly and unknowingly show thru your metaphors and allusions is not representative of the state of the black man. That is a big relief akpos1 . Your problem and that of people like you is that you do not have respect for the new platform called social media. And really, I can understand. It is about state of mind and perhaps knowledge. akpos1 your metaphors and allusions are AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL. They are AUTOBIOGRAPHICALLY REFLECTIVE of YOU. Some kind of instability of state of mind. I rest my case.

So What – IF A SENATOR’S RELATION IS IN BH?
