The victims are six Russians and one Estonian.
Pirates have kidnapped seven crew members during an attack on their ship off the coast of Nigeria, the BBC is reporting.
The vessel’s operator, Bourbon, a French shipping company, confirmed to BBC that seven of its crewmen – six Russians and one Estonian – were abducted during the attack.
Nine other crew members, left behind by the abductors, are safe and have reached the Nigerian port of Onne, near Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a spokeswoman for the company said in a statement.
The hijack of oil tankers around the Nigerian coastline has surged recently. Between August this year and now, three three hijackings occurred along Nigeria’s coastline, Two in August, one in September. In all incidents, the oil was siphoned into other containers before the vessels and crew were released.
