Presidential address and change of guards are part of activities lined up to mark Nigeria’s independence anniversary.
As part of the activities marking Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Anniversary, President Goodluck Jonathan will address the nation on Monday, October 1.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, said the President will also watch a ceremonial Change of Guards by the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards, at the State House, Abuja. Expected to be present at the ceremony are the Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Senate President, David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mariam Mukhtar; former heads of state, members of the diplomatic corps, political leaders, government officials, among others. The President’s speech will be aired at 7.00 a.m., while the Change of Guards will be transmitted live from 10.00 a.m. on national and private broadcast stations across the country.
