30 feared dead in Ogun road accident


The accident occurred along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode highway.

An fatal accident occurred Tuesday night along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode highway, killing 30 people and leaving several others wounded, witnesses said.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the accident occurred at Mobalufun Junction in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, when a truck, loaded with wheat flour, rammed into a commuter bus conveying passengers.

Many of the victims were said to be traders and commuters waiting for buses on roadside.

The remains of the victims as well as the injured were reportedly taken to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, and the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

Witnesses said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police, and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency arrived the scene and made efforts to save the injured while evacuating the dead.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident but was unable to provide details.
