PHOTOS: Tragedy averted as NNPC petrol tanker skids off road

Published:

Tragedy was averted, Thursday, as a petrol tanker, belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), had burst tyres and skidded off the main road on the Mabushi bridge, Abuja.

The tanker was fully loaded with petrol and leaked its content.

Police officers and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) promptly arrived at the scene of the accident, to divert human and vehicular traffic from the scene. Firemen, who also arrived early, were seen spraying dispersants on the tanker and also on the floor.

An official of the fire service told PREMIUM TIMES at the scene of the accident that they are “working right away to evacuate the vehicle from the bridge.”

Efforts were already being made to transfer the petrol from the faulty tanker into another petrol tanker which arrived at the scene of the accident.

Last week, an accident in Rivers State, invovling a petrol tanker caused the death of over  a hundred people who were burnt, after the tanker exploded, while trying to scoop the leaked petrol for themselves.
