Landlord docked for removing roof of tenant’s house

A Lagos landlord has been docked for allegedly removing the roof of his tenants abode.

A 39-year-old landlord, Friday Obaje, was on Wednesday docked before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly removing the roof of a house occupied by his tenant.

Mr. Obaje is facing a two-count charge of damage and causing breach of peace.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Adelekan Ewumi, told the court that Mr. Obaje had on April 23 removed the roof of a house located at No. 1 Obaje close, Ebute Meta, Lagos, being occupied by one Michael Njoku, a tenant.

Mr. Ewumi said that the landlord, in the process, damaged the rug carpet and some other household equipment worth N150, 000 belonging to the complainant.

He said the offences contravened Sections 166(d) and 348 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate, A.O. Soladoye granted the accused a N100 thousand bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till November 2, for mention.
