After years of quietly rocking her own designs on the red carpet, Nigerian femcee, Sasha aka Yetunde Alabi finally launched her fashion line, Eclectic by Sasha on Sunday.

The event held at the fashion retail store – L’Espace, Victoria Island, Lagos, and witnessed a display of Sasha’s debut collection, Inception.

During the launch, attendees enjoyed a five per cent discount and free drinks. They also had a chance to meet and interact with the award winning artiste.

With a mix of colours such as royal blue, coral, pink and tangerine orange, the artiste says the fabrics are great for the Nigerian weather.

“We used a lot of silk, chiffon, and items to look out for including our signature side peplum skirts, the butterfly print chiffon and denim shirts and a popular favourite the Sisi Fadeke Shirt dresses,” she says.

Sasha says the idea behind the concept came naturally during her stay in Mombasa, Kenya, whilst working on her album in the first quarter of the year.

Inspiration

“My hotel was on the beach so I was outdoors a lot, the colours were so vivid and during my fabric selection, I tried to re-capture that easy breezy feeling.”

Comparing Mombasa to Lagos, she adds that because the latter gets really hot sometimes, she was careful to choose fabrics that will not retain too much heat.

She has modelled her designs after her personality; Sasha says she is “she is dynamic, inspiring and free spirited”. Hence, her target customers are women who like to dress with ease and appreciate affordable fashion.

The University of Lagos, Law graduate says her new clothing line – Eclectic by Sasha designs produced for now, are the limited editions because she wants everyone to save a part of this history,

“We would not be reproducing any of these items again. There are 75 pieces and the prices range from N8, 500 to N 14,000”, she said.

Big Dreams

The Storm Records artiste is dreaming big; with an understanding of the Nigerian fashion scene, she says she has all it takes to make an impact with her designs.

“I am inspired by all who have successfully made a living out of it (Fashion) and opened doors for people like me. My greatest dislike is the cost of production which makes items cost higher than they really should, looking good shouldn’t be a luxury, it should be a standard.”

Sasha also dropped a new single titled, Bad Girl P some weeks back. The single is off her yet to be released album.
