Shawn Stockman, one of the prominent members of the American award-winning vocal group, Boyz II Men, aired his dirty linen in public when he apologised to his wife and fans for infidelity on Instagram.
Stockman, who has been married to Sharonda Jones for 15 years, shared a heartfelt video with his 48,000 Instagram followers and sought for their forgiveness.
He said, “I’m apologising on record to my family and to anyone else that I have hurt.” Although he didn’t go into detail about his infidelity, he mentioned that he was “doing things outside of his marriage” he was not supposed to be doing.
He also posted another since-deleted video to his Instagram account on Thursday further apologising to his wife and followers, and seeking their forgiveness.
Most of his followers seemed supportive of his honesty and offered countless words of encouragement.
Reports of Stockman’s alleged infidelity came to the fore for the first time in 2010.
At the time, popular US gossip site, bossip.com, reported that he had been cheating on his wife for the past nine years with another woman, and justifying his adultery by his Israeli faith. The faith allows its male followers to marry up to seven women.
The website also cited a source, claiming swimsuit model, Avonte Cherie, began a relationship with Stockman before he married his wife Sharhonda Jones in 2001.
Cherie and Stockman continued their relationship through the course of his marriage because Stockman claimed his Israelite faith allowed for multiple wives or partners.
Unfortunately, according to the source, Stockman’s wife has been oblivious to this fact.
Even though the trend of celebrities “confessing” to and “apologising” for infidelity on social media is not a new trend in the United States, in Nigeria, it has yet to be widely adopted.
Indeed, not a few will forget in a hurry the public apology that Maje Ayida, the estranged husband of Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa, made on Instagram in July 2015,after his marriage allegedly fell apart due to infidelity.
In his Instagram video, Ayida said his behaviour had caused a lot of anguish to everyone involved, and he still loved wife.
