The kids were excited to see Santa.

Visitors at the Uyo airport had an unusual but festive experience on Thursday.

A man in red Santa outfit walked across the parking lot into the airport terminal. Few minutes later, kids in party costumes, butterfly wings, gilded crown and painted faces also rushed across the parking lot but stopped just outside the terminal.

The kids were accompanied by puppeteers in Teletubbies‘ costumes. The chaperone, Joice Ndem, said the children are from Sanvee International School, Uyo.

“Today is their Christmas party. They were told that Santa would be coming to their school from the airport, so we brought some of them here to receive him,”Ms. Ndem said.

The students stood in front of the airport taking pictures before their chaperone declared, “Look Santa has arrived.”

The man in the Santa suit stepped out of the airport terminal with much cheers from the kids. They soon rushed to hug him and get gifts of sweets from his red bag. The adults around the parking lot-passengers and staff of the airport- though aware of the deception also joined in the act.

Like the kids, some were excited to see Santa and took pictures with him and of him.

The brain behind “Santa’s grand arrival,” Joice Ndem, is the owner and director of Crystal Tour and Learn, CTAL, an organisation that puts together tours and carnivals for children.

She said the whole idea of the event “is to add a bit of flair to these events for the kids”. Last year, she said, “Santa came by road.”
